Bug#845401: Info received (Bug#845401: debian-installer: auto=true not working)

2016-11-24 Thread Андрей Ярков
I tested it again with "auto=true" and it is working.
Previously I tried with just "auto". This is the reason why it was not working.
Sorry for wasting your time and thaks for help.

Bug#845481: jessie 8.6 iso works

2016-11-24 Thread Laurent Tichit

Hi,

Further information:
jessie iso installer (
http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/8.6.0/amd64/iso-dvd/debian-8.6.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso
) works on the same machine.

I tested it myself and it is documented here :
https://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/Apple/MacBookAir/6-2

So it seems to be a regression in the graphics stack between jessie
installer and stretch installer.

Regards,
Laurent

Bug#845481: (no subject)

2016-11-24 Thread Laurent Tichit

I tried again :

There is still a black screen with the same message.

error: no suitable video mode found.
booting in blind mode

But the installer obviously starts because, though I get a black screen,
there is a fuzzy blurry corrupted 10-pixel wide line on the top of the
screen. This line displays the recognizables blue and red colors of the
installer. And pressing TAB (to change selected menu entries of the
installer) modify its appearance. But it's impossible to go further.

There is no much help about it on the internet (I feel unconfident in
tampering with EFI and the few options I gave to grub like
"gfxpayload=800x600x16" have no effect).

Kind regards

Thank you, Christian.

I failed to inform in the previous message that I'm already tracking
https://d-i.debian.org/l10n-stats/, sorry.

In the column "level 1" in the following URLs, there are these numbers:

[1]https://d-i.debian.org/l10n-stats/ 2 languages
[2]https://d-i.debian.org/l10n-stats/translation-status-testing.html 13
languages
[3]https://d-i.debian.org/l10n-stats/translation-status-unstable.html 14
languages

I believe URL [1] above was showing about 13 languages when d-i stretch
alpha 8 was built.

I'm still failing to understand where the "4 languages" number is
coming from.

Package: debian-installer
Version: 20161031
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

When trying to install a debian stretch VM using virt-install and a preseed
URL, I found out to my surprise that it downloads /d-i/jessie/./preseed.cfg
instead of /d-i/stretch/./preseed.cfg

Actual command line used:
virt-install --connect qemu:///system --name=stretch --file-size=2 \
--vcpus=1,maxvcpus=4 --memory=512,maxmemory=4096 --os-type=linux \
--os-variant=generic --graphics none --console pty,target_type=serial \
--extra-args 'console=ttyS0,115200n8 serial auto=true priority=critical url=ix'
\
--location http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/dists/stretch/main/installer-amd64/

I would expect that by using the stretch installer, it would also fetch a
preseed from the stretch directory, and not from jessie.

One follow-up patch is needed here to make openssl pick up the certs.
/usr/lib/ssl/certs is the default search path compiled into openssl. On
a plain Debian system a symlink from /usr/lib/ssl/certs to
/etc/ssl/certs is shipped in the "openssl" binary package, but in the
installer environment we don't have that and shipping it in libssl's
udeb would be inconvenient.

With this addition to ca-certificates-udeb and with it and wget-udeb
included into the installer image, fetches via HTTPS work for me.

Please notice that a very recent change in network-preseed templates
added 2 strings to translate. That explains why the complete languages
numbers dropped from 13.

This might be related to CONFIG_X86_SYSFB which also caused bug
#822575. Unfortunately I don't see a way to disable that at run-time,
but please re-test when the next kernel version (probably 4.8.10-1)
goes into the installer.

Bug#845110: installation-report: Installation appears to be succesful

2016-11-24 Thread Jeroen N. Witmond

Hi,

and thanks for your report.

Jeroen N. Witmond (2016-11-20):

Comments on installation report:
https://d-i.debian.org/manual/en.i386/ch05s04.html#submit-bug asks me
to install the installation-report and reportbug packages but they
already were installed.

Maybe that could be reworded to mention that they can be pre-installed
but I doubt that's a huge issue.

Agree.

On the same page command reportbug installation-reports is wrong;
should not have the final 's'.

The command is actually correct: installation-report is a package,
while

installation-reports is a pseudo package which collects installation
reports.

Thanks for the clarification.

Perhaps I should take the next item elsewhere: Once installation is
complete, I cannot find Apper, nor can I get Discover to install
additional software.

I think it would be nice to file a separate bug report for that.

Bug#845481: stretch alpha8 won't install on MacBookAir. no suitable video mode found. booting in blind mode.

2016-11-24 Thread Laurent Tichit

Hi,

Thank you for the information.
Meanwhile I tested other Stretch iso files. Stretch Alpha7 don't show
this problem.

So it's indeed a *regression between alpha7 and alpha8*.

I don't know if this information is of any use to you.
Thank you very much for your amazing work on the kernel.

Laurent.

Hi,

Further information:
jessie iso installer (
http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/8.6.0/amd64/iso-dvd/debian-8.6.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso
) works on the same machine.

I tested it myself and it is documented here :
https://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/Apple/MacBookAir/6-2

So it seems to be a regression in the graphics stack between jessie
installer and stretch installer.

This might be related to CONFIG_X86_SYSFB which also caused bug
