   * GTK+ : Update code to trop using deprecated symbols, This allows to compile
 for GTK+3.
   * Makefile.in : Temporarily disable -Werror to be abe to compile for GTK+3
with deprecated symbols, and apply CPPFLAGS when compiling objects.
   * Remove conditional code for pre-oldstable versions of VTE. Bump
Build-Depends as well. Instead, add conditional code to build for a version
 of VTE compatible with GTK+3.
   * Regroup the libvte pkgconfig checks with the gtk+ one. This merges the
CFLAGS and LIBS of both libraries under GTK_FLAGS and GTK_LIBS. Drop use of
VTE_CFLAGS and manual -lvte from Makefile.in.
   * Rework configure.ac and Makefile.in to check for the presence of libnewt
and use its declared CFLAGS and LIBS. Add a --with-gtk-version parameter
allowing to build for either GTK+2 or GTK+3.

Bug#813023: flash-kernel: quoting error with bootargs in generic U-Boot boot script

2016-01-28 Thread Jérémy Bobbio
Package: flash-kernel
Version: 3.56
Tag: patch

Hi!

There's a small quoting mistake in the generic U-Boot script. It
probably hasn't been noticed so far because the default
LINUX_KERNEL_CMDLINE doesn't contain spaces. See the attached patch.

While, I am at it, I wonder if it would not make more sense to
reverse the order when setting that variable so it reads:

setenv bootargs "@@LINUX_KERNEL_CMDLINE@@ ${bootargs}"

That way, it's possible to override the default command line by doing
something like:

setenv bootargs console=ttyAMA0,115200
boot

Bug#813030: zipl-installer: remove obsolete portname

2016-01-28 Thread Hendrik Brueckner
Package: zipl-installer
Version: 0.0.38
Severity: minor

Hi,

this a small patch to remove the portname attribute. The attribute
is obsolete and cannot be changed anymore. Further it will be removed
in a future kernel version.

See also the attached patch.

Thanks and kind regards,
  Hendrik

Subject: [PATCH 1/4] qeth: remove portname

The portname attribute is no longer necessary and will be removed soon.

qeth: move OSA portname into deprecated status

An OSA-Express port name was required to identify a shared OSA port.
All operating system instances that shared the port had to use the
same port name. This requirement no longer applies.

IIRC some version (probably hacky old vendor branches) of u-boot behave in
weird and wonderful ways wrt quoting.

That said, including the quoting seems likely to work more broadly than not
doing so.

It would prevent @@LINUX_KERNEL_CMDLINE@@ from overriding a bad (or just
inconvenient) ${bootargs} baked into a system's default firmware? In some
cases things are headless so you can't fix ${bootargs} yourself.

Perhaps we should switch things as suggested but also add
@@LINUX_KERNEL_CMDLINE_OVERRIDES@@ at the end to allow us to put things at
both the beginning and the end?

Ian.

Bug#813033: qeth: ask for relative OSA port number

2016-01-28 Thread Hendrik Brueckner
Package: s390-netdevice
Version: 0.0.38
Severity: important
Tags: d-i patch

Hi,

below is another patch for the s390-netdevice regarding qeth device
configuration. Some cards require the specification of the relative
port number on the OSA card. Ths s390-netdevice has template and
state information for this attribute but lacks the actual
implementation.

The attached patch will let the user specify the relative OSA port
number. The setting can also be preseeded if necessary.

Thanks and kind regards,
  Hendrik

Bug#785149: grub-installer: NVMe boot drives not supported

I tried with the stretch installer in late December, and that worked
on NVMe (which is good since this was a few weeks after it was supposed
to have been fixed). I tested on a Samsung 950 Pro 256GB M.2 on an
Asus Z170-A.

It did not occur to me to test the jessie installer since I simply
assumed it didn't do NVMe. Also I was under the impression that there
are issues with the graphics in the skylake CPUs that needed a 4.3+
kernel, which ruled out Jessie for that machine.

According to
http://www.poweredbyjeff.com/2015/10/29/Intel-750-SSD-in-Debian-Jessie/ it
needs a backported grub and kernel to work properly in Jessie. Not sure.
It does have steps that is says works.

Of course if the kernel has some issues with NVMe, then I suspect getting
jessie fixed isn't that likely, but at least backports for the kernel
is still an option then.

Can we please have a UEFI layout as a possible default?

It seems from partman-doc that there is an EFI layout: is it possible to create

Hi,

this a small patch to remove the portname attribute. The attribute
is obsolete and cannot be changed anymore. Further it will be removed
in a future kernel version.

See also the attached patch.

qeth: move OSA portname into deprecated status

An OSA-Express port name was required to identify a shared OSA port.
All operating system instances that shared the port had to use the

Hi,

below is another patch for the s390-netdevice regarding qeth device
configuration. Some cards require the specification of the relative
port number on the OSA card. Ths s390-netdevice has template and
state information for this attribute but lacks the actual
implementation.

The attached patch will let the user specify the relative OSA port
number. The setting can also be preseeded if necessary.

Thanks and kind regards,
  Hendrik

Hello,

In the text frontend, when there are more choices than can fit in the
screen, the question and the first choices get lost in the backlog.
When lucky, the available backscroll is long enough, but that's not
guaranteed, notably with the every-increasing list of supported
languages :)

I have come up with some changes in the text frontend to make it only
display what can fit on the screen and provide shortcuts to circulate
among the list of available choices. I have attached the patch, and put
a sample built image on
https://people.debian.org/~sthibault/tmp/mini-cdebconf-text-choices.iso
(select the "speech" boot menu entry to easy select the text frontend).

The idea is to make all functions that print text return the number of
printed lines, so that the printlist() function can be given the number
of lines it is allowed to print. That works quite nicely.

For now I have used '(' and ')' as shortcuts for previous and next
choices, probably better shortcuts could be found ('<' is already
taken). Also the banners "Other/Previous/Next choices are available
with" can probably be improved.

How do debian-boot people think about this?

Samuel

   * Remove conditional code to handle glib pre-2.31, which is pre-wheezy.
 Add versioned Build-Depends accordingly.
   * Updake GTK+ plugin to not use deprecated GDK symbols.
   * Add the possibility to target GTK+2 or GTK+3. Stick to GTK+2 for now.
