Re: Bug#682405: unblock: xserver-xorg-input-mouse/1:1.7.2-3
Just keeping you posted. The change looks reasonable, but the package needs a separate ACK from the d-i team. Last I heard from them, they requested that we hold all udebs for now. It is a little problematic. The udeb is created only for * hurd-i386 kfreebsd-amd64 kfreebsd-i386 And version in testing is completely unuseable on kfreebsd-*, i.e. the graphical installer with 1.7.2-2 will only crash on kfreebsd-* Petr -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#683747: installation-reports: partitioning gets wedged after selecting empty partitions for LVM
Package: installation-reports Severity: normal Tags: d-i Dear Maintainer, My computer came with three NTFS partitions, primaries 1-3. During install, I resized partitions 2 and 3, leaving: primary 1 (NTFS) primary 2 (NTFS) empty space primary 3 (NTFS) empty space I went to "Configure Logical Volume Manager", created a volume group, and selected the two empty spaces to go into it. This resulted in a helpful dialog with title "[!!] Partition Disks" and contents "??? ???". After that, things went wrong: some menu options no longer appeared or didn't work. Finally, I went back to the main menu, and when I selected "Partition disks", it just returned me to the main menu. I had to restart. I think the reason is that it is not possible to turn both empty spaces into partitions, due to the limit of 4 primary partitions. But the partitioning tool did not detect this condition gracefully. (I am reporting the bug from a different computer, but I don't think the hardware details matter.) Andrew PS. The ability to mount and examine NTFS partitions in the installer wolud be nice. Bug#683770: installation-reports: when installing GRUB, says it can't find another operating system
Package: installation-reports Severity: normal Tags: d-i Dear Maintainer, When I got to the GRUB installation stage of my install, I got the message: "It seems that this new installation is the only operating system on this computer". But this is incorrect: Windows 7 is occupying two primary NTFS partitions, /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2. sda1 is the SYSTEM_DRV volume, and sda2 is Windows. Not sure why from reading syslog. If I mount /dev/sda2 on /mnt and run "/usr/lib/os-probse/mounted/20microsoft /dev/sd2 /mnt ntfs", it prints: /dev/sda2:Windows Vista (loader):Windows1:chain I went ahead and install GRUB an the MBR, and found that /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2 were both added to the GRUB menu as bootable Windows partitions (and booting them works). (Probably only /dev/sda1 should have been added because including both is redundant, but that's a detail.) I am reporting the bug from a different computer, but I don't think the hardware matters. Today I tried using the btrfs filesystem instead of ext4 and found that it has avery poor writing performance. For example when trying to set up the standard debian-desktop environment, this would have taken at least four hours. So I cancelled that after about two hours at 50 % progress and redid it by installing only the base system first with the smp-kernel, rebooting, then installing the xfce desktop-environment with aptitude. Writing to harddisk still showed very poor performance with the smp-kernel. In fact there was no harddisk-load and hardly any CPU-load, but writing was _very_ slow though. Should I report this against the PowerPC-Version of the current kernel ? Now this report is done from an installation using the xfs-filesystem. This seems to perform better than ext4, which I had in use previously. Additionally the SATA-controller-card was moved from slot 3 to slot 5, so it is now right of the sound card, instead of left of it. Installations were done in expert mode, first just the base-system and standard-system-utilities, then '# aptitude install gdm3 xfce4 xfce4-goodies vlc midori iceweasel'. Everything seems to be OK now. - -- Please make sure that the hardware-summary log file, and any other installation logs that you think would be useful are attached to this report. Hello, Ansgar Burchardt (03/08/2012): > I was wondering how to proceed with switching packages on the first CDs > to use xz compression. reassign 683124 grub-installer thanks christian mock, le Sun 29 Jul 2012 01:13:06 +0200, a écrit : > The installer, when run with a serial console, does configure some > parts of the system to account for this, but not all. > > When I run the installer (from debian-6.0.5-i386-businesscard.iso) and > edit the installer's kernel command line to include > "console=ttyS0,9600n8", the installed system then has a getty on ttyS0 > configured in inittab, and "GRUB_TERMINAL=serial" plus > "GRUB_SERIAL_COMMAND" in /etc/default/grub, so the installed system > works with that serial console. > > What is missing, however, is the matching "console=ttyS0..." parameter > in "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX", so the boot messages go to the VGA console > and (if the boot suceeds) the next thing I see on the serial console > is the login prompt. Indeed. It's almost there in grub-installer, but apparently not completely: it seems to be appending it to entries for existing linux installations, but not for the installed system... Bug#683790: switching d-i to kmod
Package: debian-installer Severity: important Tags: d-i While the kmod package has been providing since January an udeb package intended as the replacement for module-init-tools-udeb, it was never actually used due to an unfortunate misunderstanding about how d-i is supposed to load modules. wheezy cannot be released with module-init-tools-udeb because module-init-tools is abandoned upstream and by me, and I am not even sure if it can be uploaded again in its current form since kmod has taken over the module-init-tools binary package name. Also it is not a good idea to use different modprobe implementations in the the installer and in the installed system. kmod has replaced module-init-tools in unstable since March with no significant issues and now it is used by every other distribution. I think that the libkmod2-udeb package is ready to replace module-init-tools-udeb, but if any changes are still needed I commit to fixing it quickly to prevent breaking the installer. (It is not compiled with -Os right now due to a bug, but I already have a fix ready to be uploaded.) -- ciao, Marco signature.asc Description: Digital signature

I intend to commit the needed change (from my understading: just replacing "module-init-tools-udeb [linux]" by "libkmod2-udeb [linux]" in installer/build/pkg-lists/base Just waiting for some comments in case there would be something else needed...or some objections coming. signature.asc Description: Digital signature
