Bug#649575: task-german: I doubt the usefulness of dict in task-german
Package: task-german Version: 3.07 Severity: minor Hi, I doubt that the dict and trans-de-en packages should still be part of a default German Debian install, e.g. recommended by task-german. For the desktop there is gnome-dictionary installed by default and other users probably don't need a dictionary or are either skilled enough to look up in one of the powerful web dictionaries (e.g. leo.org or dict.cc) or install the dict package on purpose. The same is true for the doc-linux-de package, which contains utterly outdated HOWTOs and FAQs with regard to system administration. Most of the documents are obsolete and for the few pieces of information that still apply, I doubt that doc-linux-de is the right package to provide them. This is not about disk space or package quality, this is merely about keeping the default Debian package selection as uncluttered as possible. I have CC:ed the respective package maintainers for their opinion. Re: cdebconf 0.158 upload
And the cdebconf 0.158 has now been uploaded to unstable. This version should now actually work. It certainly has been working on my main machine for about 3 months now. There are some remaining bits to work on or look at : * escape CAPB, probably my next big push. * preinst script, checking I am doing the right thing, make sure I can't break a working system with it. Reviews welcome. * postinst/config script. Please someone check I'm doing things correctly, before I enable the i18n for the frontend fields. I'm thinking about Christian's opinion especially. * The GTK frontend lacks images, which are part of rootskel-gtk in the installer. Should these be part of desktop-base on an installed system ? I've also been asked by the m68k people to disable the GTK frontend on their arch until they catch up with the GTK stack. Any opinion on that ? Last note, out of curiosity, by only forcing cdebconf as a required package in the sid script and setting DEBCONF_USE_CDEBCONF=1, I seem to have successfully debootstraped an environment that uses cdebconf instead of debconf. Anyway, things are starting to become pretty usable, so if anyone wants to test, feedback will be very welcome. I'm quite happy with the C part of it, but if someone wants to check that I'm not doing anything horribly wrong in the cdebconf preinst/config/postinst script, comments would be very welcome. encrpted lvm on a ssd
Hello out there, one question: I have a installation on my thinkpad with an encrypted lvm. I got this by the "guided partition" of the debian installer. I want to recreate this on a SSD with the difference: I do not want format the whole disk because of trimming on a SSD. I want 20% of that SSD unformatted! And I want to use btrfs instead of ext3. So I tried to analyse how the debian installer processed my disk and when I call cfdisk I saw this part-table: Name Flags Part Type FS Type [Label] Size (MB) -- Primary Free Space 1,05* sda1 Boot Primary ext2 254,81* Pri/Log Free Space 1,05* sda5 NC Logical crypto_LUKS 99773,06* Pri/Log Free Space 0,29* So can anybody tell me for what these gaps between the partitions are good for? And is grub2 not able to load a kernel from a encrypted disk, so that I still need a uncrypted boot partition? This allowed me to add my own custom scripts that did things of interest to me. Since my upgrade to squeeze my scripts have not been executing. I recognise the presence of the -s option to override /usr/share/udhcpc/default.script but there appears to be nothing about the options available for inet dhcp in /etc/network/interfaces that allows me to specify it. A good way out of this, imo, would be to have busybox check for /usr/share/udhcpc/default.script and run that. If it's not present then run /usr/share/udhcpc/default.script. If -s is given then that would override all. This would preserve current behaviour except for where one would come from Lenny where the old behaviour would be preserved. It would also allow one to have a default custom config should one choose. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0 Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.37.3-wb.20110313-182945 (PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_AU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages udhcpc depends on: ii busybox 1:1.17.1-8 Tiny utilities for small and embed udhcpc recommends no packages. udhcpc suggests no packages. -- Configuration Files: /etc/udhcpc/default.script changed [not included] -- no debconf information --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: busybox Source-Version: 1:1.19.3-3 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of busybox, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: busybox-static_1.19.3-3_i386.deb to main/b/busybox/busybox-static_1.19.3-3_i386.deb busybox-syslogd_1.19.3-3_all.deb to main/b/busybox/busybox-syslogd_1.19.3-3_all.deb busybox-udeb_1.19.3-3_i386.udeb to main/b/busybox/busybox-udeb_1.19.3-3_i386.udeb busybox_1.19.3-3.debian.tar.gz to main/b/busybox/busybox_1.19.3-3.debian.tar.gz busybox_1.19.3-3.dsc to main/b/busybox/busybox_1.19.3-3.dsc busybox_1.19.3-3_i386.deb to main/b/busybox/busybox_1.19.3-3_i386.deb udhcpc_1.19.3-3_all.deb to main/b/busybox/udhcpc_1.19.3-3_all.deb udhcpd_1.19.3-3_all.deb to main/b/busybox/udhcpd_1.19.3-3_all.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Unfortunately with version 1:1.19.3-1 there's a new regression: swapon is no longer available in busybox-udeb. This has the unfortunate consequence of breaking swap support in D-I. This is a bit confusing because debian/config/pkg/udeb still lists CONFIG_SWAPONOFF=y and this file appears to be kernel-independant. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0.3 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: kfreebsd-amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: kFreeBSD 8.1-1-amd64 Locale: LANG=ca_AD.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ca_AD.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: busybox Source-Version: 1:1.19.3-3 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of busybox, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: busybox-static_1.19.3-3_i386.deb to main/b/busybox/busybox-static_1.19.3-3_i386.deb busybox-syslogd_1.19.3-3_all.deb to main/b/busybox/busybox-syslogd_1.19.3-3_all.deb busybox-udeb_1.19.3-3_i386.udeb to main/b/busybox/busybox-udeb_1.19.3-3_i386.udeb busybox_1.19.3-3.debian.tar.gz to main/b/busybox/busybox_1.19.3-3.debian.tar.gz busybox_1.19.3-3.dsc to main/b/busybox/busybox_1.19.3-3.dsc busybox_1.19.3-3_i386.deb to main/b/busybox/busybox_1.19.3-3_i386.deb udhcpc_1.19.3-3_all.deb to main/b/busybox/udhcpc_1.19.3-3_all.deb udhcpd_1.19.3-3_all.deb to main/b/busybox/udhcpd_1.19.3-3_all.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. kFreeBSD 9.0 in D-I
Hi, Now that kFreeBSD 9.0 finally works in D-I (many thanks to Michael Tokarev who polished the missing bits in busybox), I think it would be a good time to begin wider testing of kFreeBSD 9.0 in D-I environment. I've done some quick tests and it basically works, but it surely needs more exposure before it's in releasable state. I propose enabling build of kfreebsd-9 images alongside standard 8.2 ones, similarly how it's been done with Linux before (e.g. 2.4 vs 2.6 in sarge), with addition of netboot-9, monolithic-9, etc targets.
