Bug#606984: More on PM G4 (Digital Audio) sound...

2011-04-05 Thread Thomas Carlson
As of yesterday's Daily build #4, sound still doesn't work on this machine. A
check of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base-blacklist.conf found that snd-pcsp is still
the only file blacklisted. Blacklisting the snd-aoa files produced the same
result as before.

I also tried out the weekly build of debian-testing-powerpc-xfce+lxde (sound
didn't work initially, of course) and applied the same changes to the above
file, blacklisting:

blacklist snd-aoa
blacklist snd-aoa-codec-tas
blacklist snd-aoa-fabric-layout
blacklist snd-aoa-i2sbus
blacklist snd-aoa-soundbus

After rebooting, I was able to open alsamixer and unmute both the internal
speaker and the headphone port. I was able to play music successfully with CDs
with VLC media player.External speakers plugged into Apple's proprietary 2.5 mm
stereo mini jack sound port, however didn't work.

Tom

possibly outdated wiki documentation

2011-04-05 Thread Mark Poler

http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/Today

Greetings,

The above referenced documentation page refers to sid as unstable and
squeeze as testing. I think these designations are not current.

I have not found another way to notify a page maintainer. The person who
last modified the page does not have a listed e-mail alias.

Best Regards,

Mark

Bug#620881: Acknowledgement (installation-guide: MAKEDEV script absence)

2011-04-05 Thread Christian PERRIER
Quoting João Carneiro (baptista.carne...@gmail.com):
> i actually found later that the makedev package was missing, so this bug

Not really. debootstrap installs the base system and makedev is not
part of it (since the last release of the package, which indeed hasn't
been updated since then...mostly because it is considered useless on
modern Linux systems).

That bug really belong to the IG, to have it avoid suggesting outdated
actions.

Thanks for your care completing information in the bug report, anyway.

2011-04-05 Thread Joey Hess
My best guess is that this is an installation over an existing Debian
system, and the partition has not been reformatted. So /var/lib/dpkg/
will contain various stuff from the old system which confuses dpkg.

Update on xkb-data(-udeb)

2011-04-05 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hi,

as announced early and lately[1,2], I'm uploading xkb-data 2.1 to
unstable now.

 1. http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2011/01/msg00817.html
 2. http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2011/04/msg00091.html

xkb-data 2.2 was released recently[3] (and 2.2.1[4] quickly after that
to fix build issues), apparently with many changes on the descriptions
/ translations side.

 3. http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg-announce/2011-April/001634.html
 4. http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg-announce/2011-April/001638.html

Changes that could be of interest for d-i / console-setup:
| Files in second .changes but not in first
| -
| -rw-r--r-- root/root /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/apl
| -rw-r--r-- root/root /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/tw
|
| Files in first .changes but not in second
| -
| -rw-r--r-- root/root /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/extras/apl
| -rw-r--r-- root/root /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/extras/ir
| -rw-r--r-- root/root /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/extras/rs
| -rw-r--r-- root/root /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/extras/ru
| -rw-r--r-- root/root /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/extras/us

Also, xkb-data now Breaks: older libx11-6. That's said to be
unsupported on the udeb side (like Conflicts), so I didn't add
anything to the udeb. It's probably unlikely to cause issues (there's
no partial upgrade to handle in d-i). Even more so since the needed
(1.4.3) version of libx11's been uploaded to sid, while this new
xkb-data will go to experimental instead. But I wanted to mention that
possible pitfall on this list anyway.

KiBi.

I just updated it and added the mention that the page is indeed quite
loosely maintained. Thanks for your notice.
