One could of course install Sarge, using images from here:

http://archive.debian.org/debian/dists/sarge/main/installer-i386/current/images/floppy/

and then edit /etc/apt/source.list and apt-get update ; apt-get
dist-upgrade.

A minimal Sarge install should be quick, and the upgrade should be
trivial, after which running tasksel should get one to the same place
as a normal install.

Is it worth mentioning this for future people hunting for floppy
installs?

James, if you try that, perhaps you could write-up any issues you bump
into, so that we could still offer a floppy install method, even if we
no longer try to cram the latest installer onto a floppy.

Cheers, Phil.

how to build a new graphic install guide?

2010-07-01 Thread blue linux
Hi,all!
Recently I've got a job to customize a special linux distribution. In fact
our company have a network equipment using linux. But we store the system
file in a raw disk partition, and the equipment has got some special hardware
so we have to recognize it automatic and install the drivers. So we decide
get debian cutomzie and add our application to make it work.
I browser the install CD and find it seems that debian use css to create the
install guide.More I read some articles about how to create a graphic
install guide in customized linux in IBM developwork. But I still have got
no idea about how to create my own graphic install guide for my own linux.
Is there any articles about this?
Thanks!

Spam cleaning effort: June 2010

2010-07-01 Thread Christian PERRIER
We're now in July, so it's time for our team of magic reviewers to
work on June 2010 archives.

More details on http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/SpamClean

Please note that last month saw a discussion about whether it's good
or not to mention the number of spam one finds, along with one's
name. Some of us agreee with this, some don't. Please feel free to do
whatever you think is appropriate.
