Bug#578338: Acknowledgement (debian-installer: grub-install fails to md0)
Some further information on this ... Today I tried a lenny install on the same system using the lenny installer, but using the existing partition table and raid1 device created during the previously reported failed squeeze installation. I noticed that the partition table was a little odd. fdisk reported the swap partitions I had created did not end on cylinder boundaries and the lenny grub-install also failed. After going back within the installer to delete and re-create the md device and partitions, lenny installation was successful, including grub-install. Seeing that, I decided to see if maybe the daily-image installer would work with the partion tables created from within the lenny installer. It did work fine. So, it seems that something about the partitioner is broken with respect to grub-pc. I use manual partioning, not guided, in all cases. -edrz -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? But I see no reason why this should be available through preseeding only. This type of question is exactly why we have expert mode. > In modern machine the default ought to be the most logical option and > ought to work fine (and even provide some performance benefit in some > cases) so this shouldn't be so easy to mess with it IMO. IMO having at as a regular question at default prio with a good description also allows to document the issue better (or at least, makes the "documentation" more accessible). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Re: get.debian.net installing gNewsomething instead of Debian

AFAIK, there is http://goodbye-microsoft.com/pub/debian.exe for now. > @d-boot: Am I right that the file win32-loader.exe from win32-loader is > all that is required to install Debian? Or does does it require > adjustments before it can be used? >From what I understood by looking at the package (to get its RC bug fixed), the win32-loader.exe that lands in the package is the one that will get included at the CD's root (to get "autorun.inf-launched" when the CD is put in a box running Windows). If you try to launch the win32-loader.exe from the package in a Windows host, it will fail (bug #464233). My position is that src:win32-loader should build more than one package, with various flavours: win32-loader-cd and win32-loader-standalone for example - this would ease the setup of goodbye-microsoft.com-like hosts. > @get.debian.net: Maybe you want to host the installer directly? > > Or even better, this installation method could be added to > http://www.debian.org/distrib/? > > Greetings, > Joachim I am beginning to think that a "debian.exe" should be provided from a d.o host. That might be alongside the CDs as an official way to install Debian or from a different subdomain. Bug#578593: ethernet card assumed
Severity: wishlist Package: installation-reports Installation fails if one does not have a wired Ethernet card, even though there may be perfectly working wireless cards that even connect when using a 2003 version of Knoppix. P.S., http://d-i.alioth.debian.org/manual/en.i386/ch04s03.html sends the user in several unknown directions looking for the parts needed it mentions. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
