Bug#385219: partman: Support leaving unused space after partitioning

The bug reports #297201 and #385219 are related, and perhaps should be
merged.  The first is about having support for leaving unused space
behind with partman-auto, and the second is the same for
partman-auto-lvm.

In Debian Edu (debian-edu-install), we implemented a workaround by
creating a partition debianedufreespace using a partman recipe, and
then adding code in post-base-installer.d/10debian-edu-profile-udeb to
remove it after partitioning (did not find any hooks just after
partitioning, so ended up doing it after debootstrap was done).

It would be great if partman supported this natively.  Then we could
get rid of some code in debian-edu-install. :)

Bug#576779: partman-auto: Creates partitions smaller than the minimum specified in the recipe

Partman some times create partitions smaller than the minimum size
specified in a recipe.  I just tested using testing, and this recipe
entry, which as far as I understand it request a LVM partition with
minimum size 7104 MB:

  7104 3000 10240 ext3
$lvmok{ }
method{ format }
format{ }
use_filesystem{ }
filesystem{ ext3 }
mountpoint{ /opt } .

(This was ad edited version of /lib/partman/common/94edultsp from
debian-edu-install-profile).

The created LVM partition according to /proc/partitions have size
6934528, which is smaller than the (7104*1024) 7274496 I expected to
be the minimum.

Not being able to specify minimum partition sizes in the recipe make
it hard to know what sizes to put there.  Today we add some percent
extra to the true minimum, to try to avoid partitions filling up too
much.

I am not sure if this should be assiged to partman-auto or
partman-auto-lvm.  If the latter, I was using version 33 during this
test.  The problem exist in Lenny to, so it is not a new issue.

d-i build not able to download udebs from repository

hi,

I am building d-i on Squeeze, the build process fails as it is unable to 
download udebs from the concerned repositories. However the package lists do 
get downloaded.

I have added the following to sources.list.udeb.local
deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main  
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ sid main

I have also checked to ensure that my internet connection is up and running.

Here is the error that I am getting:
Building dependency tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package acpi-modules-2.6.32-3-486-di
make[7]: *** [stamps/get_udebs-cdrom_gtk-stamp] Error 100
make[6]: *** [_build] Error 2

How can this be fixed?

You are not downloading udeb here.

You should have something like:
deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ sid main/debian-installer

$apt-cdrom add will ask you to put a CD/DVD and check the content.

If you use apt-get/aptitude, you have to add the source in /etc/apt/sources.list
and then run $aptitude update.

I've been pointed privately by Brian to the following, that's much better than
my "bricolage"..:-)

logic is that hardcoded stuff is upercase.

This issue was reported in bug #553024 - also concerning a Broadcom

Support of the Marvell 88E8059 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller was
introduced in the sky2 driver[1] at Linux 2.6.33.  A partly backported
patch[2] against 2.6.32 was provided in LP bug #543314[3].
