Bug#568381: debconf segfauls with DEBIAN_FRONTEND=text

AFAIK Otavio is planning another D-I upload (a few other components migrated only a few days ago), so it would be nice to get this in especially as without it s390 is unusable. So I've gone ahead and uploaded with 'high' priority. Cheers, FJP -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Is there something that doesn't work properly with XKBMODEL="pc105" (other than printing the keyboard layout)? Bug#568529: overwrites MBR of installation medium
Package: debian-installer Severity: grave During installation of debian squezee using USB flash drive (hd-media) grub-installer has overwritten its MBR (obviously, it has /dev/sda device associated with it). I'm aware that device enumeration issues were reported in #517563 and #516280 and are present in errata for lenny release RC2, but I believe that installer should not overwrite installation medium under any circumstances. The problem seems to be located in grub-installer script[1]. When grub-installer/only_debian is set to true the bootdev is set unconditionally to '(hd0)'. Installer should make sure that this device is not installation medium by any chance. I've set severity to grave because of data loss (MBR), but the case is obviously not so common so feel free to reduce it. reassign 568529 grub-installer 1.49 severity 568529 serious thanks On Friday 05 February 2010, Piotr Lewandowski wrote: > I'm aware that device enumeration issues were reported in #517563 and > #516280 and are present in errata for lenny release RC2, but I believe > that installer should not overwrite installation medium under any > circumstances. Agreed. But I'm lowering the severity to serious (still "not suitable for release") as a boot sector can be repaired. I would not expect any actual data loss. debian installer, kernel and keyboard
Hi. I have read the message: http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2009/12/msg00490.html and I have the same problem. I cannot install debian due to this, the keyboard does not respond when the kernel is loaded. I have not found information on what kernel is present in the debian installer, how can I do this? Is there new information when the kernel will be updated according to the information in the message i refer to? A reply is much appreciated. Kenneth

If your keyboard is not working that can be tricky :-) For daily built images you can go to [1] and then select the link for "other images" for your architecture. There you will find a file named MANIFEST.udebs which lists kernel module udebs included in the current images and the package names for those include the kernel version. > Is there new information when the kernel will be updated according to > the information in the message i refer to? We're currently working on an alpha release in which this issue will not be fixed. After that a switch to the new kernel should hopefully happen fairly soon. But it will take at least about a month. iso-scan teaser (hd-media install)
This is work in progress. Yes, this makes use of the 'humandev()' function and templates from partman. But no, it does not depend on partman. :-D More in a few days. <>

Kartik Mistry (03/02/2010): > Just thought: Can we get some ideas from how Ubuntu installer is > working? I've not used it much but it seems working in most of > cases.. Since Otavio didn't point me there, I assumed such a move wasn't started there, so I followed Josselin's and Otavio's proposals, and discussed how to deal with my roadmap with them. Speaking of roadmap, it looks like Julien Cristau and I, helped by Josselin Mouette, reached a possibly interesting state, as reported in the following blog entries: 1. http://ikibiki.org/blog/2010/02/05/GI_part_3/ 2. http://ikibiki.org/blog/2010/02/06/GI_part_4/ The latter's conclusion is (as that was the case for the previous blog entries) my next roadmap: getting rid of rough edges, as well as turning some of the dirty hacks into some patches suitable for inclusion in the respective packages.
