Hi You can try with the images inside the "compiled" CD, and extract initrd.gz with cpio. Quoting Steven Sciame (sasci...@yahoo.com): > Ok, > > I figured out where to typ the iwlist eth1 scan > > It told me interface doesn't support scanning Of course, eth1 should be replaced by the interface name of your wireless card. When you use Knoppix, you can probably do "dmesg|more" to display all boot messages. Then search for the moment your wireless card is detected, it should also show the device name. For example, for my laptop: [ 33.184502] ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, 1.2.2kmprq [ 33.184624] ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2006 Intel Corporation [ 33.184829] ipw2200 :02:03.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 17 [ 33.185108] ipw2200: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection [ 33.185287] eth0 (ipw2200): not using net_device_ops yet [ 33.185374] ipw2200 :02:03.0: firmware: requesting ipw2200-bss.fw [ 33.330266] ipw2200: Detected geography ZZM (11 802.11bg channels, 0 802.11a channels) [ 33.331470] udev: renamed network interface eth0 to eth1 My wireless card wad detected and named "eth0". Then "udev" renamed it to eth1. Bug#529307: installation report
Hello, Thank you for the reply. I typed in wireless because that was the ESSID that I wanted to connect to, but it didn't work and without a connection you can only get so far with the install. It seemed like it would be fine all the way up to the configure wireless network. I installed Ubuntu and in worked perfectly. I kind of wanted to use Debian though. Any suggestions on my next step? -Steven --- On Tue, 5/19/09, Christian Perrier wrote: From: Christian Perrier Subject: Re: Bug#529307: installation report To: "Steven Sciame" Cc: 529...@bugs.debian.org Date: Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 8:33 AM Quoting Steven Sciame (sasci...@yahoo.com): > Ok, > > I figured out where to typ the iwlist eth1 scan > > It told me interface doesn't support scanning Of course, eth1 should be replaced by the interface name of your wireless card. However, as this file is now directly executed, I wonder whether it should be installed in /usr/bin instead of /usr/share/console-setup-mini. The bash shebang is apparently useless as (at least according to checkbashisms), there is nothing bash-specific in this script. So, I think that debian/config.proto could maybe be modified to use a /bin/sh shebang. Fixed..:-) Now, Anton, an upload would be great as that would help considering doing the switch to console-setup. About this, I digged a little in l10n stuff: Samuel activated the grabbing of translations from xkeyboard-config, which is fine. So, now, we'll have the challenge of having "our" translators complete translations for that package. Only "problem", xkeyboard-config has666 strings. Moreover, its localization is maintained upstream in the freedesktop projectand they use the Translation Project to manage localization. So, that means we probably shouldn't direct "our" translators to work directly on xkeyboard-config but rather instruct them to register on the TP to work on that package (some already do this for iso-codes anyway). Still, all this is now really going on. Thanks to Anton and Samuel for their work. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Indeed, this code fragment: # In d-i the config script is not executed automatically if [ -f /usr/share/console-setup-mini/console-setup.config ]; then . /usr/share/console-setup-mini/console-setup.config fi makes the script stop, as the sourced script ends up with "exit 0" I don't really see any reason for that script (and more generally the config script) to end up with "exit 0", so I recommend just commenting that line in debian/console-setup.config (at least, *this* makes the udeb complete its configure step). --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: console-setup Source-Version: 1.36 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of console-setup, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: bdf2psf_1.36_all.deb to pool/main/c/console-setup/bdf2psf_1.36_all.deb console-setup-amiga-ekmap_1.36_all.udeb to pool/main/c/console-setup/console-setup-amiga-ekmap_1.36_all.udeb console-setup-ataritt-ekmap_1.36_all.udeb to pool/main/c/console-setup/console-setup-ataritt-ekmap_1.36_all.udeb console-setup-fonts-udeb_1.36_all.udeb to pool/main/c/console-setup/console-setup-fonts-udeb_1.36_all.udeb console-setup-macintoshold-ekmap_1.36_all.udeb to pool/main/c/console-setup/console-setup-macintoshold-ekmap_1.36_all.udeb console-setup-mini_1.36_all.deb to pool/main/c/console-setup/console-setup-mini_1.36_all.deb console-setup-pc-ekmap_1.36_all.udeb to pool/main/c/console-setup/console-setup-pc-ekmap_1.36_all.udeb console-setup-sun4-ekmap_1.36_all.udeb to pool/main/c/console-setup/console-setup-sun4-ekmap_1.36_all.udeb console-setup-sun5-ekmap_1.36_all.udeb to pool/main/c/console-setup/console-setup-sun5-ekmap_1.36_all.udeb console-setup-udeb_1.36_all.udeb to pool/main/c/console-setup/console-setup-udeb_1.36_all.udeb console-setup_1.36.dsc to pool/main/c/console-setup/console-setup_1.36.dsc console-setup_1.36.tar.gz to pool/main/c/console-setup/console-setup_1.36.tar.gz console-setup_1.36_all.deb to pool/main/c/console-setup/console-setup_1.36_all.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Re: First tests with console-setup replacing kbd-config
Quoting Anton Zinoviev (an...@lml.bas.bg): > Good to here this. > > Should I make small console-setup-mini-udeb without translations? Well, I'm not sure we have a use case for it. The point of having no translations is to make the udeb smaller but, as c-s udeb is included in the initrd, that would mean preparing special images with the mini-udeb replacing the udeb. I see very few use cases for this. In low memory mode, translations will be dropped anyway. So, in short, I don't really see any need. Maybe others would have an advice. Samuel updated the wiki page and I compelted it as well: http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/ConsoleSetupSwitch I will soon "play" with console-setup enabled for all languages in localechooser. It's already enabled for French and we got no failure reports. The same stands for cyrillic languages. I think it's now probably quite safe to replace all remaining instances of kbd= by console-setup. I wonder if we should *add* console-setup for languages that had no "kbd=" mention previously: - languages that are displayed with the console framebuffer (CJK, Hebrew, Arabic, Vietnamese) - languages that can be rendered only in graphical mode (Amharic, Indic languages, Dzongkha, Khmer, Thai) The latter would indeed bring a better display of the console anyway (c-s fonts are, imho, much nicer than what we provide with kbd) signature.asc Description: Digital signature
