Debconf vs. graphical installer
Hi, here we go to add some discussion on the never ending topic of a graphical installer. The current implementation of the gtk-frontend for cdebconf is highly unsatisfactory. Because of the limited debconf capabilities it is a mere question asker which is not what one would expect from a graphical installer. It does not make sense to offer a graphical installer which is more or less identical to the newt frontend. We have to discover a way to make use of the capabilities[1] of a more sophisticated frontend while not being to intrusive with the current design of d-i. I had some discussions about that with some people and there were some vague ideas but until now there was no agreement of how it should be done. So I would like to raise the discussion here, to collect ideas and perhaps come to a solution. Do you have time to fix at Debian bug #203056 and #203058?
Hello You are listed as the maintainer of the Debian package e2fsprogs. The latest uploaded version (1.34-1) break the new Debian installation debian-installer. The bugs are reported into BTS as #203056 and #203058. Do you have time to look into these problems, and fix them as soon as possible? We d-i developers would appreciate it a lot. :) If you can't fix them soon, we will add a workaround (linking /bin/ldconfig -> /bin/true) until it is fixed. It would be better to get a proper fix from you. :) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#203245: installation: buffer overflow when choosing a hostnqme (install option : network)
Package: installation Version: unavailable; reported 2003-07-28 Severity: normal (sarge-i386-netinst.iso downloaded today) I choosed to install with the "net" option. While giving the hostname, I tried to give a domain name (by the way I did not found a way to give it) by entering it in the hostname : "topaze.bougon.org". I got the message telling me the name was incorrect, but after that, the default proposed hostname looked like a buffer overflow to me : [default = debian xze.bougon.org "* go]> * is a white square but I can't reproduce it... I choose installation in french language ; while "Partition a hard drive" (it is not translated in French by the way), the message Veuillez choisir l'un de ces disques, pour y crACer des partitions. came by. The message should be Veuillez choisir l'un de ces disques, pour y créer des partitions. I think there is perhaps an unicode printing problem here. Bug#203254: installation: Installer segfaults while downloading base system
Package: installation Version: unavailable; reported 2003-07-28 Severity: normal [I downloaded autobuilded sarge-i386-netinst.iso today] While installing the base system, the installer made a Segmentation fault while downloading http://ftp.uni-stuttgart.de/debian/pool/main/c/console-common/console-common_0.7.22_all.deb I checked, the file exists on the server. There were many unsucessful downloads before, as http://ftp.uni-stuttgart.de/debian/pool/main/u/util-linux/bsdutils_2.11z-4_i386.deb But I checked, and the file exists and can be downloaded by http. creating own debian distro
I want to make a customized debian distribution targeted to security. I know Adamantix exist, but I want to make it a little easier. My idea is that one be able to just insert the boot disk and the system installs a minimum of packets, close ports, ask for NAT and transparent proxy, install and configure snort-mysql, web reports, webmin, etc. Where can I find documentation to make such a project? I'm beggining to develop under Debian, until now I have only customized some .deb's and made a net-install disk with 2.4.21, but haven't found info to make something like Bonzai but with another focus. Also I don't know whether this list or debian-devel be the correct place to this question. Hope you can orient me.
