buster speaker selection bug

2020-08-14 Thread Jude DaShiell
I cleaned off a drive that had a crashed fedora install on it with
firmware buster debian since my ethernet card needs a firmware driver to
run.
I thought installation went well until first boot.
I heard the grub beep then the usb speakers in use and selected click then
heard nothing else.
So I switched speaker sets to one with a 3.5MM jack and got the same
result above.
Next, I removed the usb speakers and rebooted and the 3.5MM jack speakers
started talking long enough for me to enter my username and password then
those speakers went silent.
I have no idea which package to do a reportbug on for this error. All in
all very frustrating.

Correction this happened on buster official disk not firmware as I wrote
earlier I did a successful integrity test on the disk which is how I
discovered this.

To recapitulate:
You can install on any usb device you like but you must have the usb
speakers disconnected and a traditional speaker set plugged into the
system for the system to talk at all after first boot.
I only got as far as entering my password in mate and never got any
farther speech disappeared after that and swapping out speakers did not
help either.
