preseed is only for the debian installer, not live CDs.

An equivalent is to put this:

[org.gnome.desktop.a11y.applications]
screen-reader-enabled=true

[org.gnome.desktop.sound]
event-sounds=true

[org.mate.interface]
accessibility=true

in /the-chroot/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/15_perso.gschema.override
and run inside the chroot:

dpkg-trigger --no-await /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas
dpkg --triggers-only -a

But the installation sound works...

Which Desktop Environment is the best for blind?

2020-04-14 Thread John Berden

Hello.
I'm blind and use Orca.
Please tell me which Desktop Environments is the best for me?
Different people say different things. The first, Gnome 2, the second,
Gnome 3, but before 3.36, the third, Mate...

Which is objectively better?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,

The Debian accessibility team considers that Mate is the most accessible
and installs this by default. Because sobric, simple, with menus,
customizations, flexible, and easy to understand in its design.

Gnome3 works technically, even if there are often regressions (recently
there were). It works technically without so much problems anyway, but
more difficult to understand in its approach for a beginner. Hence the
choice.

Objectively we can't answer your question.
With regard to accessibility Debian has Mate as the default DE.

Hi, Orca comes up at the login screen ok and I am able to login just
fine but once I am logd in speech does not start up. I am using mate as
I did the normal selections in the latest alpha testing installer but my
home partition is on another directory is on another partition from the
operating system which I do not delete or reformat. How using the
console which works well with speakup or once in the desktop can I setup
orca to start up? Nick Gawronski

By default, this installs Debian desktop and Mate.

Intrasting, why the default Debian desktop is installed with Mate. As I
know, this is Gnome...

When accessibility is not used during installation, yes. But if
accessibility is used (braille, speech, or dark theme), the Mate desktop
is selected by default instead.

Thank you very much, it works.

accessibility is used (braille, speech, or dark theme), the Mate desktop

is selected by default instead.

I use the image:

debian-10.3.0-amd64-netinst.iso

At the beginning, I press "s" and return.
When selecting programs, 1 6 12 is selected by default.
