Re: [Debconf-team] Preliminar schedule (everything can change)
Hey Maxy, this looks like painful, manual work, thanks a lot for all your effort! I mainly have one point of concern when I see events like marga's "Go" talk, and stuff about Xapian, MySQL, Obnam, Icinga, etc. on the Open Weekend. Those events are relevant to Debian development or of interest to our community, but they aren't really interesting to the public coming to DebConf for a glimpse of Debian. On the other hand, talks like the bits from the DPL, sandstorm, systemd, reproducibl builds, Debian&FSF etc. do seem of interest to the wider public. Might it be possible to swap out some of the lesser-Debian and more-technical talks on the Open Weekend for some of the pure-Debian events scheduled later at the moment? -- .''`. martin f. krafft @martinkrafft : :' : DebConf orga team `. `'` `- DebConf15: Heidelberg, Germany: http://debconf15.debconf.org DebConf16: Cape Town: https://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf16 digital_signature_gpg.asc Description: Digital signature (see http://martin-krafft.net/gpg/sig-policy/999bbcc4/current) ___ Debconf-team mailing list Debconf-team@lists.debconf.org http://lists.debconf.org/mailman/listinfo/debconf-team

The "Bits from the DPL" talk did not have enough information to figure out the audience, but we can check back for that one. Most of the others ones (certainly sandstorm, systemd and reproducible builds) could not be scheduled at Open Weekend because (some of) the speakers not being present then. [Debconf-team] video title slide and footer
We need someone to create the title slide that gets put at the start of the videos. to see last years, look at the first few seconds of http://meetings-archive.debian.net/pub/debian-meetings/2014/debconf14/webm/Adhoc_crossbuilds_and_multibuilds_Xen_NetBSD_in_Debian_as_a_nonarch.webm Someone needs to determine what logos and other images and colours and fonts. and create an svg. here is last years: http://5cda49ca88af98bf1f1e-b4c3b47b38bb1b572e0805ecabeeb59c.r76.cf2.rackcdn.com/dc14_title.svg (note, the text only renders correctly in Inkscape) As soon as someone creates something and sends it to me, I'll generate titles for the talks that are currently in the system and put them up for review, like this: http://veyepar.nextdayvideo.com/main/title_slides/302/ I expect by the time someone does this Tumbleweed will have setup the server and he will be the one driving. But for now I can help getting a head start while he is at OSCON We also need a footer. this can be a static image. Names of the crew would be nice. or organizing team. How utterly depressing (assuming that you mean by "the idea is off" that you've cancelled the whole thing). I do understand that as techies, we're all very highly tuned indeed to look for potential down-sides in every scenario, but perhaps it's worth remembering that in order to be reading this list people need to have fought long and hard to volunteer totally unreasonable amounts of time, effort and quite often money, despite constant aggravation from all sides. Anyone of questionable motives, unless they were astonishingly stupid, would be able to find any number of more pleasurable ways of getting their hands on some unearned bounty. Not that I think it was in this case, but even if something looks to be in part motivated by drumming up future business, that's just fine. More people using Debian is great. More people paying money to Debian Developers to work on Debian is great. More people noticing that Debconf is on, and being persuaded to come and have a look by the reverse psychology of being charged for the privilege ... is great! They might even have told their friends and all turned up for the open day, which might have helped avoid the pathetic spectacle of people addressing an almost empty room that we normally have to witness. [Debconf-team] 30 minute talks
I just want to highlight two benefits of talk slots under 30 minutes: a) easier for the content team to fit in everybody who contributes to Debian b) for those rooms the video team can't cover, DSLR video recording is one option. Many DSLR cameras that have video capability are crippled to a maximum 30 minute recording. Of course, DSLR doesn't capture the content from the projector and it doesn't enable live streaming and all the other goodies the video team are capable of but it is an option and it has been used at other events. ___ Debconf-team mailing list Debconf-team@lists.debconf.org http://lists.debconf.org/mailman/listinfo/debconf-team
