This looks really good and well thought-through! Thank you, Cate and
everyone else involved.

Here are a few comments:

I am not sure we should make this optional. We should really have
a way to reach out to all attendees if necessary. So if the
announcement list is not the way to go, then maybe we can add
a statement like "we might well send you e-mail if you opt-out, in
case important stuff comes up". But then, why would people sign up
to the announcement list?

> <>

Yes. The morning only though.

> Role in DebConf:

I suggest en_GB instead: Organiser.

Why not make the default "independent"?

Also, have you guys considered adding a free-form option, or
a donation field?

This is not decided yet. We should give people the option to apply
for double-rooms, e.g. couples, but we cannot make any guarantees.
Well, not yet. I think it would be good if those people later in
charge of room allocation would have a look… (contact me for
details)

I suppose this list is incomplete and should include N/A and/or "Not
specified".

Could frame this differently? The normal framing (above) often ends up
with an assumption that everyone must eat meat, with only a limited
set-aside for vegetarians. This results in overconsumption of meat: it
forces normal people to eat meat in order to avoid running out of
vegetarian dishes for the vegetarians.

Maybe it could be rephrased something like this:

 Dietary restrictions:
  - Not applicable
  - No dietary restrictions (lacto-ovo vegetarian) <>
  - Meat required
  - Vegan (strict vegetarian)
  - Other (contact ASAP)

This way, we could ensure that the people who need meat can get it,
without pushing everyone who isn't explicitly vegetarian into eating
meat.

I'm also open to other suggestions that would also help us avoid this
common large-group meat-overconsumption pattern.

[Debconf-team] Fwd: proposal for registration and "info" page

Hi everybody
I've been looking at past DebConf websites.

I think it's nice if we do like DC14:

* Now we have in the website:

News
Dates
Sponsors
Contribute
Contact
DebConf e.V.

* Add one more "Travel & Venue", pointing to
https://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf15/Welcome (I've created the wiki
page, copied the scheme and some sections (empty) from DC14. I'll try to
fulfill some parts with the info already provided in DC14 presentation
talk. I hope we all together can do the rest :) )

* Add one more "Registration" with some small info until registration is
open (attached you can find a proposal, taken from DC14 too), and more
info when summit is open for registration.

I've created a branch "registration_page" in debconf-data/dc15.git and
pushed there the registration.xhtml file (not sure if this is the
correct procedure).

Even if all of you agree with this, I don't know how to make the
corresponding changes for creating the menus in the main page etc. So
another person should do that, I think.

Comments welcome.

While I am in the group that sometimes wished they could eat the
vegetarian dish, because it looked tastier, or because they wanted to
skip meat one day, I really don't agree with your proposal.

No dietary restrictions means what it means, not that meat is mandatory.
Lacto-ovo-vegetarian is by definition a dietary restriction, no matter
how you frame it.

I don't *need* meat, I just like eating it as part of my diet. A more
sensible approach would be to have many options, or just be free to
choose between the two offered at will, but it seems that our caterers
for the past many years can't offer more than two options, in more or
less restricted numbers. This proposal will not solve the underlying
problem, just changes the semantics, in a way that I find troubling.
