As Stephen said you should easily be able to get train fares from London
to Edinburgh that are very much less than this.

There should still be plenty of time to book a hotel. Work on getting a
conference hotel picked out is ongoing - there should be some news in
the next week or so.

Several other people were planning to travel to Debconf with their
partners - I believe in one case with their children as well.

It did not prove possible to obtain a meaningful discount for the group
hotel rate. Details of the suggested hotel and some other options can
be found at:

https://debconf7.debconf.org/wiki/Accommodation

Everyone who registered an interest in the hotel should already have
been contacted regarding this.

The big problem people have with the enormous keysigning parties from a
trust point of view is that they tend to be tiring and often a bit
hurried. This tends to reduce the quality of the ID checking that is
done substantially.

Personally I always use Real Foods. I don't know which branch you're
thinking of here - there are two, one on Broughton Street and one
Brougham Street[1]. The latter is nearer, about ten minutes walk away
from Teviot. There is another specialist place on Clerk Street but I've
not been in recently. You should be able to find some items nearer but
I can't think of anything else for a full range.

It's also a bit more difficult to locate the bus stop for the regular
buses at the airport - basically, the airport bus is a bit less hassle
but more expensive.

If you do end up coming to Teviot first it's not that far away - the
hostels are only a few minutes walk so not too bad even if you are
carrying your luggage.

Well, it's the nearest one that isn't actually in the building :) .

Cheques are fine, credit cards aren't (though the cash machine will take
them).

[Debconf-discuss] Minutes 20070618

2007-06-18 Thread Mark Brown
Talks:

 - Only real problem is people randomly scheduling their talks,
   especially .
 - Ganneff: could you please add some interface to Penta to make
information availiable about speakers who haven't turned up easy to
   find.
 - Now have all four projectors.
 - Penta registration information is great for determining if the talks
are going to be over capacity.
 - Talks after ~1800 are too late for the video team to be able to video
   them.

Systems/Venue:

 - Network still works well.
 - Penta is having problems with load while entering data.
 - Power failure in hacklab 1 today. We now have the second ring in
there so this should be resolved. Tomorrow morning we will rebuild
the the power; we have more power bars and stuff now.
 - Teviot have mentioned that further power problems may force them to
   just turn off the power.
 - Venue have moved the photos since they were blocking an exit &
   noticed a few other issues.
 - Reception have a list of arrivals.
 - LPI is sorted.

Registration/T-Shirts/Front desk:

 - Handouts worked well in spite of the thundering herd.
 - We have no idea what is going on with our books. The stock Josette
is selling looks suspiciously like what we'd identified as her stuff.
   Sledge to resolve.
 - All outstanding badges should be done.
 - Have signs for talk cancelled/moved.

Night venue:

 - We need to clean up each night.
 - Still problems with volunteers.
 - If you're opening the venue do it a bit early in order to allow for
   resolution of problems with equipment.

Day Trip:

 - Patty is organising this. Collecting money.
 - Shouldn't cause any problem with the food.
 - Will exchange tickets for cash for day trip attendees.

Accommodation:

 - Cowgate is still an issue.
 - Now have validator for the allocations.
 - Jon currently gathering information about what exactly is going on at
the minute. Most people are in the right place.
 - Keys: poor rate of key handins, the rooms from which keys have been
handed in should be sorted. Hopefully this handin rate is due to
   people being happy.

Food:

 - Vegan issues should be resolved.
 - Still haven't reconciled the meal tickets. Kev will try to kick this
   off tomorrow.

Sauna:

 - Sign up sheets to be organised tomorrow.

The Debconf team would like to thank everyone for their help with
tidying Teviot tonight, especailly those who stayed on after the venue
closed and those who have volunteered to come back tomorrow. We're on a
tight schedule to clear our equipment out of the venue and your help is
very much appreciated.

This would presumably be unhelpful to people like MJ who want to attend
for the minimum possible period - if it works well it would be likely to
spread talks people find interesting over a wider time period (since it
avoids conflicts). That does depend on people finding a large enough
proportion of the talks equally interesting, though.
