How are they treated? Generalizing is always bad, as it depends on the

[Debconf-discuss] About BoF scheduled not on time

2010-07-11 Thread Hector Oron
Dear debconf organizers,

I am sure you have lots of concerns right now, but do not worry so
much everything will be fine.

I write here because it is still uncertain to me how late-time
BoF/talks are handled. I have scheduled a couple BoF on my penta
profile, but those were late on time. I was told that we would be able
to meet during Debian Conference [1] (at least for one of the BoF I
scheduled) but should I be fine just with having the proposed BoFs
hanging on my penta profile or should I fill some "missing" form at
some "missing" site?

Any light on this will be much appreciated.

Again, thanks for all your hard work and bringing the opportunity to
a great part of Debian be part of the anual Conference.

Best Regards,

I am not local, but took the bus from Zagreb at 22h00 and arrived
Banja Luka by 2h30, after 30 min bus break stop and quite quick border
checks (not queues). So expecting to be at Zagreb by 10h00, leaving
site at 6h00 might be a bit optimistic.

Ooops, we hire a DebConf bus leaving Banja Luka at 6h00 with drop off
at train station and airport terminal. There is other bus leaving
Banja Luka by 11h00.

That is very kind on your side, thanks for the offer. It surely will
be quite useful.

It has been released before time, around 9:30(-ish)

Effectively we can confirm that routing packets over DNS works perfectly on this
release.

Version 1.0 group is currently enjoying breakfast at airport and would like to
thank specially our release manager for bringing such smooth release at this
time. Even, the 45 min waiting time for changing from suite bosnia to croatia.

Good luck with that one!

I was unable to reply before, but on my side, as one of the speakers,
I have no problem switching the scheduled time (as it has already
happened).

[Debconf-discuss] Debian Kids Camp for DebConf-next

2012-07-14 Thread Hector Oron
Hola / Hello,

During DebConf12, there have been few discussions about bringing
kids into DebConf. It is clear that it needs a parallel track
organized by interested parties.
Current thought is about creating a camp for kids, so parents might
be able to send out kids to Debian Kids Campament and kids can be
thought about Debian ensuring Debian developers replacement in
future... in anycase, there is still lots to talk, organize and play
with. To start working on this matter it is suggested you to subscribe
to 'debian-jr' alioth project.

Would be very good a Debian Kids Camp, would be to prepare well to see
what can be done with children and a nice experience for those who
want and can sometimes work in areas such as these, which are not
covered, and those who develop education and promote a lot that is
free educational software.
That if you would have to review what kind of activities could be
performed. There are many things to prepare for the Debian Kids Camp:

Premises:

  0. I do not think creating yet another mailing list, project,
infrastructure, ... is really needed.
  1. debian...@lists.debian.org, a.k.a.
https://lists.debian.org/debian-jr/, holds very low traffic.
  2. debconf-team must need to coordinate in some aspects with
debian-jr for debconf organization.

Therefore, I propose:

  0. Use mailing list listed in premises 1. to develop didactic
methods to teach kids during a week parallel to DebConf, any needed
software can be discussed and finally uploaded to Debian archive if
needed for activities going on there. That might help to revive
debian-jr project.
  1. When approaching DebConf, debian-jr must coordinate with DebConf
team, trying to avoid any overhead on DebConf team, DebConf kids camp
status updates should be discussed in debconf-team, or announced in
debconf-announce.

I just got admin rights in debian-jr team. I am also DebConfIsta and
in touch with Debconf organizers, even putting tiny bits in there. I
think this topic is so important that I feel like taking
responsability for it, and I am pretty sure it'll be a combined task
around the community, so it won't be as heavy as we all expect. :-)

Barcelona FC has a kids camp were they train next football players,
Messi, Guardiola, Xavi, Iniesta, etc.. all of them come from 'La
Masia'. Nowadays those are best footballers in the world. Why can
Debian do the same? Well, just for a week... maybe if few years Debian
is best OS in the world... oops, maybe we are already there but we
need to keep it up. :-)

Thanks for the note, that's something to look up. That's why it is
important to start early.

I am not an educator myself, but discussing about it during some
dinner, there are work arounds for language barriers, they can all be
set to locale C... I mean they can use pics to describe things and
other methods that educators might be able to describe.

That's also something we need to plan ahead, that's why starting early
its important. Making a note on it.

Was there a possibility to camp outdoors? That might help lowering the
threshold here. Also making a note.
