Thank you very much for making a South Africa map available. The ones

Hi

The maps are ready and can be downloaded from www.frikart.no.

There are both road maps and topo maps with contour lines for hiking.

Hi all

Now confirmed:
Expect one 40 seater bus to arrive at UCT Club (lunch venue).

Departing around 1pm.

Cost: R120 per person, to be paid to Graham Inggs (or his minions).

[Debconf-discuss] warning: connections through JNB

2016-07-01 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Hi,

Apparently JNB is testing a new biometric system at immigration, and the
queue there is just huge (~ 2 hours this morning).

If you have a connecting flight, you are supposed to talk to someone and
jump the queue, but I reached the only sign that said to do so far too
late to catch my planned flight.

(Also, for added fun, BA argued that since it was a problem with
immigration, it wasn't their fault, so I had to pay a change fee.)

So, if you connect through JNB, make sure to talk to someone early to
understand how to jump the queue. (probably they will tell you to follow
the crew / diplomatic / people needing assistance signs)

See you tonight!

OTOH don't stress if you miss the flight (but if it the last one).
You will be automatically booked in the successive flight (it already
happened to me, in USA)

[Note: this work only if you booked the two flights together, so the
connecting time was selected by the airway].

Thanks for the info!

I bought VodaCom SIM with 1GB data from Woolworths in CPT airport, for
1+149=150Rand.
The resigter ppl of Woolworths asked me to activate the SIM at VodaCom
shop, so went to the shop nearby, however VodaCom staffs are angry at
me because I didn't buy from them, and said they can activate SIM card
bought from them.
I don't want to spend too much time on this, so I spend another 50Rand
to get the same type SIM card on hand, just let them activate and
charge the 1GB plan for me.

So,
- If you want to buy from Woolworths, remember to insist to activate
the SIM immediately.
- I have one spare SIM, if anyone need it, I can give it for free.

Cheers,

Alternatively you can get it activated near the venue. I just came from
doing that as the Woolworths at CPT had "network issues" and they could
not activate it at that moment.

I don't know the address of the place but is down from the venue in the
avenue

My experience:  Don't buy the card at the Vodaphone store... They
charged me R119 only for the card, I was told at Woolworths its is 1R

After swearing not to ever buy an Acer again in the early 2000s, I
broke my word and got one of the first-generation netbook Aspire One
models. I used it as my primary laptop for >5 years.

I am in my third year using the second machine of the same brand/line;
am completely happy and satisfied. For my first machine, I had to
change the battery once (never had to with the current one), and for
both, I had to change the power adaptor. Power adaptors are probably
the best you will find in this brand.

The machines are on the slow side of reality, but for modest needs,
they do the job quite well.
