[Debconf-discuss] Looking for DM

2014-08-28 Thread Floris Stoica-Marcu
Hi guys,

I just bought myself some 5th edition DnD goodness, specifically the new
starter-set, the players handbook, 2 sets of dices, a playing mat and some
figurines.

So friday (tomorrow) I talked to some guys that we might have a DnD game
based of the preset adventure from the starter set. Since I always have
been DM, I wanted to play this time (i never played as a PC before). So if
you want to DM, find me so that I can borrow you the starter adventure so
that you may go over it ^^

Good Day,

Wow! I completely missed that this was scheduled tonight. Thanks, Anibal!

I've been to this particular concert several times, and it's always
fantastic, and the location is wonderful. Last year, due to funding, they
weren't able to have this free concert in the park, and I thought that was
the end of it.

If you get the opportunity to go this evening, I really encourage you to go
down. The concert is free, and there will be food/beverage (non-adult)
vendors in the area selling refreshments. They time the 1812 to be played
at dusk (intentionally), so be prepared for a long-ish concert. :)

[Debconf-discuss] debdry and Upstream Guide BoF

The debdry and Upstream Guide sessions seem highly complementary and
overlapping; both of them cover the interaction between upstream
packaging and Debian packaging. I doubt I'm the only person who would
really like to attend both. The Front Desk suggested mailing

alternate time slot.

Anyone else interested in attending both? Would one or the other

[Debconf-discuss] Group photo reminder

2014-08-28 Thread Aigars Mahinovs
Just as an extra reminder - Group Photo is scheduled at 15:30
*tomorrow* (Friday, August 29th) in front of the main entrance to our
venue (on the park side). There will be volunteers "recruited" to call
people in from both hacklabs and from all 3 talk rooms, but if you are
somewhere else at that time, you risk missing the photo.

If you are leaving before the group photo time, come to the same place
as above *today* at 15:30 and I will take your picture then and will
try to blend into the finished group photo. No promises of success or
quality of blending, but we've had quite acceptable results in
previous years.

Oh and all the pictures I have taken so far are already uploaded to
https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/+AigarsMahinovs/albums/6050571097260627409
All the future photos of the event will be there as well. If you want
to tag yourself in those photos, you are welcome to do so, but please
do not tag other people to respect their privacy.

If you see a photo of you there that you wish to be taken down or have
you masked in the photo, please contact me directly.

I'm fine with moving the Upstream Guide BoF. Discussion from the
debdry BoF could be interesting to inform the Upstream Guide BoF so it
would be best to move it after. I'm probably going to be at the
derivatives related things on Saturday so the second slot after lunch
seems best. Talkmeisters, please move the Upstream Guide BoF to the

Instead of setting the default to "do not tag me" I would like to have
as many people on the group photo been tagged as possible, unless they
tag oneself as "do not tag me".

Even I've attended many Debconfs already, the the group photos including the
tags (including nicknames) are very usefull for me, for matching names and
people/faces. I'm pretty sure that people that are new at Debconf also
find this very useful.

So, I've been notified that at least two people involved in GSoC are leaving
tomorrow morning and will miss the group picture.

I propose we move the GSoC picture taking today during the afternoon break at
15:30 PDT (to make it convenient, in the same spot Aigars will take the
pictures of people that will have left tomorrow).

Everyone involved in GSoC in Debian, either this year or in years past, is
invited to join us, and even if you're a mentor w/o student or a student w/o
mentor!

Sorry for the shuffling around and thanks for being here!

Pleased to see that being used. I guess Aigars is in the middle of the
`git annex copy --to incoming` of his 3 gb of photos now,
or possibly needs to do `git push` since it only knows about the copies
on his laptop..

I hope many other people can also put their photos there. Especially

In almost all years I've been to DebConf when this was happening (I

In the modern age of selfies, IMHO the mugshot idea is antiquated. But
we might introduce a new service - selfies.debian.net ! Anyone up to
setting that up? Preferably using http://www.mediagoblin.org/ ?

If this is a serious idea (I can't quite tell), I can help with setting
it up. I've got a package for it almost ready here:

[Debconf-discuss] lost Debian sweater

2014-08-28 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
I've lost my Debian sweater, blue, with zip, hood, and a huge red swirl
on the back. I don't know where I've lost it, but it happened before
the DayTrip, so it's hopefully not currently floating on the Columbia
river.

If you've found or seen it, please let me know, I'd really appreciate.

TIA,
Cheers.

The group photo has traditionally been the exception the that rule.
However, a person in a group photo can always tag himself with
"do-not-tag" name on that wiki page, like 252 did here -

OK, so I did some asking around, and was pointed to the PSU Bike Hub,
which seems a very good option for bike rentals — We have to finalize
some details, but they will rent us for US$15 per person. We can drop
off the bikes even if 19:00 is after their closing time (they will
give me the precise dropoff location). They confirmed they have at
least ~15 bikes available.

Accodring to the Wiki, we have currently nine interested people, quite
a nice number. We will do it tomorrow (Friday), 17:00 to 19:00
(including the time to go fetch the bikes) in order not to interrupt
the talks program.

I am asking one more time, as I'm sure it would be great for at least
one local person to come with us. If we don't find anybody wanting to
join, having a general plan on where we should head will be welcome.

So, I'll post an update most probably tomorrow around lunch time. Keep
tuned!

[Debconf-discuss] Missing Debian Swiss Army Knife

2014-08-28 Thread Patty Langasek
Hello, everyone!

Debian.CH has been kind enough to send some of their merchandise to
DebConf14 for sale to help support the conference and Debian in general. One
of the fabulous offerings are the Debian-branded Swiss Army Knives.

Yesterday, we had 2 remaining at the front desk. Today, we had 2 boxes, but
only 1 knife. I will assume this means someone was looking at the knife and
accidently wandered away with it while distracted with Debian discussion of
awesomeness. If this sounds familiar, please bring it back to us at the
front desk (they were quite expensive to manufacture, the disappearance does
hurt Debian in the long run).

You can return the missing knife to the front desk (tomorrow, as it's now at
the end of the day) with no questions asked.

I thank you, as does everyone from debian.ch!

[Debconf-discuss] D&D 5th edition rules

2014-08-28 Thread Floris Stoica-Marcu
So for who joins us in our D&D game, I put together a quick list of things
you should have;

You need to have some pencils and erasers. ( I will try to find some
erasers tomorrow )
For a quick look over the rules you should read this (it is easier than it
looks):
http://media.wizards.com/2014/downloads/dnd/PlayerDnDBasicRules_v0.2_PrintFriendly.pdf
^ Should give you a basic idea of the game.
We will have 2 sets of dices, but for your own convenience you should
download the following apps (for android):

or

[Debconf-discuss] Privacy filter (for laptop display)

2014-08-28 Thread Ville Korhonen

Hi,

Many of you have asked about the privacy filter on my laptop (Macbook w/
Snow White), here is some details :)

It's 3M Gold Privacy Filter[1] (exact model for mine is GPFMA13[2]).
It's quite expensive (mine was ~60 EUR), but is worth it. (No-one sees
that you're using OS X in DebConf! ... Just kidding, MB works perfectly
w/ Jessie.)

This model has two sides: gold/black & is reversible, I've used only the
golden one, which provides very good image clarity. (PF-series with only
black, GPF-series w/ gold+black.)

Filter is attached with translucent adhesive strips (another choice is
slide mount tabs, if filter is removed often). Manual says that strips
should last repositioning "hundreds of times", haven't tested yet...

[Debconf-discuss] Webapp packaging BoF tomorrow (Friday) 11:45-12:30

2014-08-28 Thread Geoffrey Thomas

Hey all,

I've had a bunch of informal conversations this week about packaging
webapps, including the webapps-common policy draft and how to handle
version-constrained dependencies that don't immediately satisfy the Debian
packaging. It seems worth discussing this at a larger BoF.

Because scheduling is hard, let's plan on this at 11:45-12:30 tomorrow
(which slightly cuts into lunch, and we can continue the discussion over
lunch if it goes wrong).
