[Debconf-discuss] marvels of DebConf

2012-07-15 Thread Daniel Pocock

DebConf has run so well that maybe it is hard to appreciate the effort
some people have put in.

So just imagine DebConf without the efforts of the organising team,
particularly the local team - how could things have ended up if we
didn't have them?

Maybe we would have needed to call in the army to help:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012/jul/12/g4s-olympic-security-recruitment-chaotic?newsfeed=true

Nobody went on strike at DebConf:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-06-25/french-player-strike-at-world-cup-was-unanimous-team-members-say.html

Imagine if we had lost the support of the local population?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tour_de_Doping.jpg
(well, we did receive some communication about the pool :)

So thanks and well done to the organising team for a big effort getting
us through the week without any major crisis

Well. Seeing the danger of making this the longest thread on -discuss
should everybody having enjoyed it to add her +1's I wanna get that
over the wire:

I also really thank the participants and Volunteers for the great
time, as well being patient with me when I kicked them out if my
office and refused them my printing services. It was a great pleasure
to count your numbers!

That sounds reasonable, let's keep in touch and discuss about it at

IMHO the child-care at DC13 itself should be discussed on debconf-team@
or debconf-discuss@. There is a lot of things to be taken care of which
involves the local team, and they will probably not follow
debian...@lists.debian.org.

Cheers,
Martin

I was about to suggest the same. Use some filtering like [childcare]
as it is being done with penta.

You should have come here, could have easily built a skiing track in
the Hacklab or the talkrooms, the (artficially created) temperatures
where quite right at some points... :P

The question about the child-care was also raised during the DC13
presentation in Nicaragua. As I said there it will not be a problem to
provide a room or outdoor space for this. But IMO the rest should be
organized outside of the local team. I don't think there is much that
needs to be coordinated beyond that.

While I'd love to see the "Debian Kids Camp" happen, I'd prefer it to
not use much of the already scarce time of the debconf team members.
