Thank you for the correction, I still miss some "local" information ;-)

I talked with Rene about that as well and I perfectly agree for
ftp*.d.o, but after having thought about that I fear that cdn.d.n will
not be affected :-(

Anyway, until the internal mirror is not ready, this is vaporware.

You were right, I was testing a wheezy installation via d1_alpha1 amd64
CD-1 plus debian.uni.edu.ni and I got "Encountered a section with no
Package: header" for Translation-* files. I then switched to
cdn.debian.net (which resolved to 200.75.30.181) and the installation
finished (slowly) fine.

Just forget my request for debian.uni.edu.ni, then :-)

Thx, bye,

Re: [Debconf-discuss] cdn.debian.net pointing at .mit.edu mirror from DC12 connections

2012-07-03 Thread Yasuhiro Araki
Luca and all people in Hacklab of DebConf12.
I welcome to optimize cdn.debian.net for DebConf12.

With information from Diocles and Zack,
I modify "cdn.debian.net" configuration for DebConf12 nicaragua to use
ftp.utexas.edu.
It is more better than mirror at MIT..

I don't include debian.uni.edu.ni as candidates of cdn.debian.net.
Because debian.uni.edu.ni does not provide full architecture of Debian.

Do you know near Debian mirror from locate of DebConf12?
If you know it, please inform result of ping and "traceroute -a hostname".

I would like to modify cdn.debian.net configuration for DebConf12.

[Debconf-discuss] Unattended laptops

2012-07-03 Thread Moray Allan
During DebConf, please remember that we can't guarantee security for
your laptop or other property, especially if you leave it unattended in
the hacklab. No one will stop you doing that, but it's at your own
risk.

(In case you're wondering, no, there have been no problems of property
going missing yet, and I hope there won't be any.)

[Debconf-discuss] Badge adjustment

2012-07-03 Thread Moray Allan
If you have a black plastic bead between your neck and your DebConf12
badge, then you are probably wearing your badge non-optimally. If you
instead locate the bead behind your neck, then you can use it to adjust
the position of the badge in front of you.

And, as you may know, only poor people steal.

SCNR, not wanting to flame here. Just though the "clarification" wasn't
quite fair.

You could had quoted a local person confirming high crime rates

I think the day we have to be really careful is the Debian Day. Don't think
anyone

It was most definitely meant as a suggestion to actually *leave* stuff
unattended in order to support poor people... which I don't think will
get into the campus anyway...

Apart from that, I strongly opinionate against (only)poor=stealing,
also in Germany where we have a slight bit more than 2$/day/person you
absolutely should *never* leave any valuables unattended, and I only
laugh at people who put purses and mobiles up on the table in
bars/restaurants and wonder why they "lose" them.

Most often all around the world, the poor are the most honest and
generous people you can find...
That said, there is probably some poverty-induced crime here, just
Holgers wording was a bit suboptimal. Let's forgive him and hug each
other :)

Or maybe you think the length of the cord is just right and don't want
to lose the plastic bead? There's no knot at the end, and it might fall
off otherwise.

[Debconf-discuss] Call for photographer

2012-07-03 Thread Gunnar Wolf
Hi all,

We have our usual, fun, beautiful and always important souvenir, the
group photo, scheduled for July 12, at lunchtime. However... We have a
problem: This year, our usual paparazzi Aigars will not be attending,
and we need somebody to take up his job.

The first requisite is material: Do you have a good camera?

The second one is more ethereal: Do you know well how to use it? Do
you want to create a very-good-resolution picture by taking several
smaller pictures and joining them together? Or is your camera high-end
enough for you to offer it as the One True Good Shot?

In any case, please: We need you. We need a great group photo to
properly remember DC12 as we have for every previous year.

Thanks!

I do have my camera with me, and I do also have my tripod :)

I think I know, but I'm very lazy to take pictures I hope that when DebConf
start I'll have more time to do it :)

I don't think that I'll be able to to do small pictures and all that work, but
my camera can do a very big resolution shot with good details

Actually I was already trying to find a good place to take the group photo, and
I also talked with the local team about making mugshots, I can lend my camera
and/or tripod if needed to complete that task :)

Cheers
