Well I'd love to participate in GSoC, I'm just not sure I'll enough of
time this year. And next year is my final uni. year so not sure if
that will make me eligible for enrolling.

Thank you so much for this information, this is great!

@Gunnar,

Yea, at the times I said if I had to make a wild guess I said it would be ~30-35

@Arthur,

No, they just asked, had no particular reason.

It was me that was curious, because I'm planning to have two seperate
daytrips, just as organizing a concert specifically for DebConf
attendees so for these kind of things age comes as a very important
factor.

Ui, considering 300 attendees being 30 years old on average, you must be
301*35-300*30=1535 years old at least! 8-)

Ahhh, not really. We have quite a share of potential grandfathers

Andreas,

I would have more enthusiasm for the project if it was:

(1) More inclusively aimed at "grandparents" rather than just
"grandfathers", with "godparents" as an addition
(2) Did not have the requirement of a "grown-up child" (for those aged
people who do not have oneor for those aged people whose children
never seem to "grow up")
(3) If the project had not been started on April 1st.

But I appreciate the thought

Warmest regards,

Hmm, given that we have (roughly, rounding) 300 people averaging 30
year old, having you as the attendee #301 and increasing the average
by five years, it means you are around 1535 years old.

Man, and there are still some people who doubt Santa Claus' existence!

[Debconf-discuss] Motorbike trip to Banja Luka

2011-04-07 Thread Luca Capello
Hi all!

Some of you maybe remember that for DebConf7 I travelled from Genève to
Edimburgh with my motorbike and maybe even more of you remember that,
while I did the same for DebConf9, I was not alone, given that Zack and
Roland joined me for an indeed beautiful trip:

For this year DebConf Zack and me are planning to arrive in Banja Luka
again with probably not the best comfort in the world (especially for
your back). Nothing is decided yet and again the two major points are:

- dates

I am quite free for the arrival ride, while I must be in Genève on
Saturday, August 6th, which means that we should leave Banja Luka soon
  after DebConf ends.

- route

The trip distance from Genève is around 1130km with motorways:
Mont-Blanc tunnel, Milano, Venezia, Ljubljana, Zagreb and finally
Banja Luka. This in no way can be completed in a single day. We have
not discussed this in details, but a good option would be at least two
  stops somewhere on the road.

Or we could decide to avoid tolls as much as possible, thus the trip
distance, always from Genève, would be around 1430km: Bern, Zürich,
München, Salzburg, Graz, Maribor and finally Banja Luka. This will
  need at least three stops.

Is anyone else interested?

Thx, bye,
Gismo / Luca

Last call for people interested in the road trip from the UK. If
you're interested, add yourself to the wiki page here. We'll be in
touch next week to confirm, then it's time to start looking at:

 * hotel and ferry bookings
 * working out who's travelling in which car
 * insurance
 * logistics: motorway passes, low emissions zone passes etc.

Well, while the URL that I got mentions dc10, I just logged in to the system
and it says dc11.

Anyway, I guess that I am not the only one to have problems answering some
questions of the registration form:

* In the general part of the registration, the Debian status field gives the
  options:

  + Debian Developer
  + Otherwise involved in Debian
+ Not yet involved but interested
  + Accompanying a Debian participant
  + DebConf Organizer
  + DebConf Volunteer
  + Press
  + Sponsor

Would it be possible to have a category for Debian Maintainers [0] that
aren't Debian Developers there, distinguished from the 2nd option above?

  [0]: http://www.debian.org/vote/2007/vote_003

* In the DebConf part of the registration, what is the question "Printed
proceedings?" asking me? If I want a version of the printed proceeding
sent/mailed to me? If I allow any work that I publish to be part of a
printed version of the proceedings? It's not clear from that.

* In the DebCamp part of the registration, the DebCamp options are:

  + I won't be attending DebCamp
+ I have a specific work plan for DebCamp
+ I don't have a specific plan for DebCamp (week payment (450) required)

Do the people "I don't have a specific plan for DebCamp, but I am willing
to do some slavery Debian-related work while I am on a trip far, far away
from my country" have to pay for that fee?

This was my reason for not checking that box the past year and I see that
it is still there, causing me confusion once again.

Thanks for any help with this,

Probably the best idea here is to pick something you always wanted to
work on but never had a nice concentrated chunk of time to make any
progress on. Failing those, there are always plenty of RC bugs to work
on and lots of DDs to sponsor NMUs or there is usually lots of
infrastructure work to do (dak, bts, pts/ddpo, packages.d.o, wiki,
fonts review, buildd stuff, d-i etc). If you don't want to do those,
then fixing all of the bugs in your packages or your team's packages
would be good too :)
