[Debconf-discuss] Thanks from Columbia CS

2010-08-09 Thread Richard Darst
Hi everyone,

I just wanted to send a quick "thank you" mail, on behalf of Daisy and
all of the CS staff.

She was unbelievable impressed with our group overall, and had so much
fun.

She said that never before had she seen such a clean group. We made
less mess than their faculty do at their events.

Never before had she seen so many cheeses from around the world, and
such a well organized party.

She was impressed with how we left things better than we found it, for
example, fixing up all the chairs in Davis auditorium.

Never before had she seen a group so religiously obey "no food" rules
- not even faculty conferences!

Had she known how great we'd be, we would have had no problem using
the courtyard for catering or a c&w party, in addition to the CS
Conference room.

She's offered to sponsor any meetings or workshops we may want in the
future. This is all thanks to _your_ great behavior.

- Richard

Re: [Debconf-discuss] Thanks from Columbia CS

2010-08-09 Thread Hans-Christoph Steiner

Somehow I knew that Debian would be such a community. I guess Daisy
is setting the stage for miniDebConf-NYC, now that we know how to run
a DebConf ;) The ironic thing is that now we know how to run DebConf
in NYC and have this goodwill from Columbia, it'll never be here
again... maybe we could get letters of recommendation from her for the
next DebConf venue.

When lolcats are involved (advertising the no food rule), it certainly helps
:-)

I am glad Daisy had such a great time. She was a pleasure to work with!

[Debconf-discuss] kudos to video team

2010-08-09 Thread Jameson Rollins
Without beating this issue to death, I wanted to extend another kudos to
the video team. I started watching some of the videos and I'm
incredibly impressed with their quality. The camera folks did a great
job following around the wandering speakers, and I can't believe how
quickly and skillfully the videos were edited. Very well done.

I left a small wireless router in my room -- Carman 604A. It's behind
the desk, lying on the floor as it had to be stretched to reach from the
AC outlet to the ethernet jack. Is there any chance I could get this
back somehow? I can send a fedex account number to pay for shipping.

I'm always near Columbia University. If no news, I can try to go
to Carman tomorrow.

I really like the Debian Tartan, but i assume it's made of wool, and i
don't wear animal products. I'm sure the traditional tartan-makers
would be aghast at the suggestion, but are there any plans (or even any
possibilities) to make a batch of this fabric in cotton, linen, or other
vegetable- or synthetic-based material?

Thanks for your kind words - I'm really happy to read how many people enjoy
our work!

I've put yours on http://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf10/Videoteam/Thanks so
when in future we'll think "is it worth the effort?" we have one place to go
and see "yes, it is" :-)

And, btw, thanks to everyone who contributed to that page - it's certainly
already today a blast to read it and to learn you "all" think we did a good
job and made you happy!

And of course, many big thanks to all of you who made DebConf10 happen and let
the videoteam do it's job. Without DebConf(10), there would be no videos
neither :-D

cheers,
Holger

I have a wool allergy, so if there was a plan to produce a non wool run
of the tartan I'd be interested.

I would be quite interested in linen cloth in that tartan pattern - for
another reason: linen being so much cooler (literally) to wear, and (I
suspect - cannot proof) also more environmentally friendly than cotton.

In case others are interested, the white loose trousers I wore at
Debconf is fishermans trousers from somewhere in Asia - pieces fit
nicely in a rectangle so has close to no loss with some widths of cloth
roll.

I'm leaving in two days for the other side of the country, and wont be
back until the 25th of the month. I do not anticipate having time to
send out *anything* until I return. Don't expect an email from me
either.

Sorry about this but due to Debconf organizing, I haven't even read my
email for the past week, so I would like to first do that, get some real
sleep, and then sanely pack and travel. When I return, I will gather all
the things to ship and all the addresses that were sent to me and spend
some time at the post office. So be patient, things are coming :)

Hi,

You will also receive another email from me about this just in case you are
not on this list but all the RCBC folks are eligible for a black--the color
of NYC--shirt. If you want a shirt, send me an email to bie...@nyu.edu with
the subject line Volunteer Shirt. In the email specify size and mailing
address.

We are running out of shirts so we will likely have to order some more and
then send them so it might take awhile to receive them, but better late than
never.

It might seem absurd to send these back to us, but having $1 (or even
less) on 300 cards actually adds up to a lot of rides.

We can conveniently consolidate even the smallest amount into actual
rides if you send them to us. If you dont, your card will expire before
you come back and that money will be essentially donated to the absurd
organization that runs these subways, instead of to the hard-working
local team :)
