- Collecting food-tickets at lunch/dinner
(Go to the Front Desk, offer your help, and coordinate with them)

- Translating food menu into English

I am always happy to meet new volunteers after the orga meeting outdoors

Having looked at this I these places are within a few tens of km of
each other. The valley itself is perhaps 30-50km long. If the worst
comes to the worst we can hire a car and drive a group there from
Caceres.

I think more detailed planning will have to involve local knowledge,
locally obtainable maps (rather than going by google.es's
topographical), etc. but it looks feasible enough.

I really only have the kit you need for indoor climbing (not even a
rope, although one is on my wishlist...) Does anyone here have
suitable outdoor gear (a rope or two, and nuts and so forth) ?

If someone does and says they will bring it, I will bring what I do
have: a harness, boots (UK size 8.5 IIRC), belay device, and a spare
carabiner and a sling.

I will be doing my packing tomorrow night so I need an affirmative by
then.

FWIW I bought a YOIGO SIM in Barcelona which included 20 Euros prepay
for 20 Euros. Each day I use it the charges seem to increase for a
while, up to a per day maximum of 1,20, though it's quite possible
there's some higher threshold where I might suddenly get whacked with a
whole lot more.

It worked really well for me in Barcelona where the Hotel Duc de la
Victoria wanted a ridiculous 7 euro/night for the wifi, and fortunately
everywhere else we've stayed has included it free (though it was pretty
dodgy at the Hotel America in Granada, but they're forgiven because one
should not spend too much time checking e-mail while visiting in the
Alhambra :-).

Cheers,
Andrew.

As a side note to everyone else - if you are arriving during the day
(from 09:00 to 21:00), I would strongly recommend taking a taxi.
Walking 2 km up and down hills in 38 degree heat with bags is much
harder than one would expect. We would not want anyone collapsing on
the street.

If you do walk - take plenty of water and take breaks in the shades.

[Debconf-discuss] Tennis partner(s) and court(s) sought

2009-07-20 Thread martin f krafft
I have recently picked up tennis again after 8 years of a break, and
would like to use every opportunity to play. I am back to hitting
long and consistent ralleys.

Are there people at a comparable skill level interested in playing
next week?

Are there tennis courts (ideally sand) which we can use?

Right. The two google maps URLs presented in this thread end up in
slightly different places. Can you confirm the coordinates of the
reception entrance ?

It looks to me like
   39.467568 degrees north
6.368950 degrees west
(WGS84) ?

Ie the green arrow here:
  http://maps.google.com/maps?q=39.46756,-6.368970&t=h&z=19
(Not the `A' tabh.)

This is relevant, as I'll have my GPS with me :-).

Yep, the green arrow is right outside the reception and the gate for
the entrance to the premises is to the south (and one to the

A few of us walked the other day, it was hot, but it wasn't *that*
bad. It took us about 20 minutes and we spent the time to go down by the

I think we can take the lack of response to mean that no-one who is
reading this list knows definitely one way or the other.

I'm not sure exactly what the best way is to do the research myself at
this distance; I had a look at the tourist board page referred to
upthread and found a couple of the locations mentioned. They seem to
be logistically plausible although might involve organising separate
transport (ie, car hire). I have no idea what the climbing is like.

I'm inclined to think it's all a bit too hard and maybe just bringing
sticky boots and seeing if we can find any bouldering on the day is
the way to approach it.

(I do have a (double) rope and some quickdraws and some nuts but they
tend to be little use in Spain IME as everything is bolted (and far
too hard :-) )

Has it even been decided whether the day-trip is going to be to the
country or the city yet?

[Debconf-discuss] pool

2009-07-20 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi,

using the pool in the parque de deportivos only costs 1.71 euros. It's open
til 21:00 and I didnt find any lockers.

How to get there: you go out of the venue, turn right, turn right again to the
park with the lakes and then opposite of the park on the left side of the
street is a huge arch which is the entrance. Directly behind the arch is a
small house where you pay, then you go straight-straight-right for 100m where
the entrance is on the left, while the (one) pool is on the right.

And of course, the water is great! \o/
