xcalc comma doesn't work properly under de_DE.UTF-8

2014-02-01 Thread jaakov jaakov

Package: xcalc
Version: 1.0.5

Problem: Input digits after the decimal separator (comma in German) are ignored
for computation.
Steps to reproduce:
A. Make sure that the LANG shell variable is set to "de_DE.UTF-8" .
B. Start xcalc from the shell.
C. Using mouse, press the following screen buttons in the xcalc window:
1
.
1
x^2
D. Observe that the result is 1, which is wrong, since the square of 1.1 is
1.21.

If in step A the LANG would be set to, say, "en", the result would be a correct
1.21.
If in step A we keep the German locale but in step C we would press pi, and
then x^2, the after-dot-digits would be considered again.

Please fix the bug!

Best regards,

Jaakov

This behaviour appears to be due a problem with cygwin's sscanf() in the
de_DE.UTF-8 locale, apparently already fixed in the latest snapshot. See [1].

Thank you, Jon. Indeed, my relatively recent cygwin (as of today) does not have
this patch yet. Let us wait until the snapshot gets released.
Best,
Jaakov.

Re: subversion silently fails

2014-03-30 Thread jaakov jaakov

As a stab in the dark, can you try running `rebaseall` per the instructions in
/usr/share/doc/rebase/README?

Did not help either. It might have even slightly worsened the installation,
since before having rebased, the command

 strace svn help 1>>/tmp/svn.log 2>>/tmp/svn.log

had not segfaulted, but had ran forever, having been continuously enlarging /tmp/svn.log
with some repeated "...leave..." message. Now the command does segfault,
producing the output mentioned in a previous e-mail.

Xwin crashes at start

2015-03-07 Thread jaakov jaakov

Dear all:

While executing the command "Xwin Server" from Windows 8.1, the server won't
start. Apparently, the executed command is

C:\cygwin64\bin\run.exe --quote /usr/bin/bash.exe -l -c "cd; /usr/bin/startxwin"

The file C:\cygwin64\run.exe.stackdump is produced. Instead I expect, however,
an X Server and an xterm window.

On the other hand, starting first "Cygwin64 terminal" does create a text console shell, and running
startxwin &

from this shell does give me an X Server and an xterm window.

A complete removal of the C:\cygwin64 directory and reinstalling did not help.
Afterwards, reinstalling xinit did not help.
Attachments: run.exe.stackdump and the output of cygcheck -s -v -r.
Any help?

run.exe fails to start XWin in Windows 8.1

2015-05-02 Thread jaakov jaakov

Dear cygwin maintainers:

While executing the command "Xwin Server" from Windows 8.1, the server won't

This issue persists for a few months already. Last year, XWin started without
problems.

Any help?

Xwin start

Dear Jon and Gavin:

Today I finally got to testing again. For reasons unknown to me, after
updating, XWin starts again as expected, both with or without debug packages
installed. So let me thank you for your feedback. I guess, you can forget the
original bug report. If XWin will stop starting, I'll report again.

run.exe fails to start XWin on Windows 8.1 through the shortcut

2015-08-12 Thread Jaakov Jaakov

XWin fails to start again (previously reported half a year ago or so).

The command issued by a shortcut is
C:\cygwin64\bin\run.exe --quote /usr/bin/bash.exe -l -c "cd; /usr/bin/startxwin"
Upon starting the shortcut, there is some disc acitivty, but no window opens,
and no XWin processes show up (according to the later-called Task Manager).
No files in the directory /var/log/xwin are updated.
The file C:\cygwin64\run.exe.stackdump is generated, containing

2015-08-14 Thread Jaakov Jaakov

Achim,

let's hope that your update helps. In the meantime, using run version 1.3.3-1:
1) Issuing
C:\cygwin64\bin\run.exe --quote /usr/bin/bash.exe -l -c "cd; /usr/bin/startxwin"
from cmd does not start an Xwin server; no error message is produced.
2) Issuing
run.exe --quote /usr/bin/bash.exe -l -c "cd; /usr/bin/startxwin"

from cygwin64 text console (mintty with some arguments) does start an Xwin
Server. (Xterm has to be started separately afterwards, but let's hope that
this is a different issue.)

Best,
Jaakov.

2015-08-15 Thread Jaakov Jaakov

Hi Achim:

Regarding run 1.3.3-1, if the command
C:\cygwin64\bin\run.exe --quote /usr/bin/bash.exe -l -c "cd; /usr/bin/startxwin"
is issued from the Windows command shell cmd, then C:\cygwin64\run.exe.stackdump is either not generated or not reproducibly generated (it happened just once in a long row of attempts).
According to the Task Manager, the run process shortly appears and then disappears in one-two seconds. No other effects, except some disc activity, are visible. (In particular, XWin doesn't start.)

\var\log\xwin remains untouched.

XWin won't run xterm on start

2016-02-21 Thread Jaakov Jaakov

Dear all:

How to make xterm start automatically on XWin start? When I run XWin from a Windows shortcut, the X Server starts, but not an xterm. The same happens when I run startxwin from a cygwin terminal.

(After the X server starts, choosing xterm from the graphical menu does bring
up an xterm window. So, xterm is functional.)

The Cygwin/X FAQ is not helpful: there is no CYGWIN environment variable on my
system and there is no particular error message. (The system is completely
updated as of today. Due to strong filtering of the mailing list, the output of
cygcheck cannot be attached in my case; it can be sent it to a private e-mail
address if asked.)

Any help? Thanks in advance,

Jaakov.

Adding one more hyphen in front of -profile leads to two xterm windows.
However, there are lots of other errors on the console. Said that, what would
be an appropriate .startxwinrc or /etc/X11/xinit/startxwinrc for getting one
(not two) xterm? Better, one uxterm?

It is an example

try just

xterm -geometry +0+60 -ls &
xterm -geometry +0-100 &
exec    xclock

killing xclock will shutdown the X server.
You can use any other program for that.

Thank you, I see. I cannot use xclock - we have one clock in Windows(TM)
already, but I'll choose something.
Is there any way to do whatever the current version of
/etc/X11/xinit/startxwinrc
does (xwin-xdg-menu, gnome-keyring-daemon, and lots of other goodies which I sometimes need) and, in addition (as opposed to "instead"), run uxterm?

Where do you suggest to do it?

Finally I got the culprit machine again.

Sorry but my suspicion expressed earlier, that there's an address

Dear Mark:

However, after simple "rebase -i cygXt-6.dll" xpdf still cannot start. What one
had to do for my system is

rebase -b 0xf730 cygXt-6.dll

This rebasement does not seem to survive updates or reinstalls. I know that
rebasement is difficult, but still, could you, perhaps, solve it in a more
long-term way?

Thanks in advance,

Did you run /usr/bin/texlive-enable-fontconfig? (See the release announcement for TeX Live 2015 or /usr/share/doc/texlive/README.Cygwin.)

regularly. In any case: yes, your script takes several minutes (somewhere between 5 and
10 on my system) to run, but after that xelatex detects TeX Gyre Termes like a charm.
Thanks again!

Best regards,
Jaakov

You can get my build of xpdf-3.04-1 from my personal Cygwin repository:

 http://www.sanibeltranquility.com/cygwin/

There are instructions there.

Be careful what you install. I have a lot of updated packages there for my own use and/or testing. As far as I know, they all work well. But you might not feel like being a guinea pig.

I selected xpdf only, and put everything else into "keep", but after my choice setup also strongly
suggested perl-Lingua-Translit as "required by biber", though both biber and perl-Lingua-Translit
were explicitly set to "keep". This is counterintutitive. Said that, I'd better wait a bit for an
xpdf version in the standard cygwin repository. Reason: I do not want to update biber-related stuff from
anywhere except standard cygwin repository since it's production-critical for me.

Thank you anyway!
Jaakov.
