Cygwin Aisleriot - missing cyggdkcardimage-0.dll

2018-11-17 Thread Mike Yates
Hi guys

This is a long shot but does anyone have an archive of that DLL, required
by sol.exe in aisleriot-1.4.0.4-2.tar.bz2 of Feb 2003, still up on
SourceForge?
As it is nowhere in any recent Cygwin collection, perhaps it should have
been included in the tarball?
I have tried emailing the Cygwin Aisleriot authors, Jonathan Blandford,
Felix Bellaby and Rosanna Yuen but all three emails (of 2001) bounce now,
of course.
Does anyone know where they are now?

TIA
Mike

Mintty terminal always opens at 79 char width

2018-11-17 Thread Saurabh T
n/t. Despite being set to 80 in the Options, Apply/Save being done, minttyrc
being manually edited to say Columns=80, windows keep opening at 79 char width.
This is on Windows 10 Home with the latest 32 bit Cygwin 2.11.2. I've tried
both Consolas and Lucida Console font. Thanks,
saurabh

I don't think it exists. The only thing Google provides is a reference
to this thread[1].

Re: Cygwin Aisleriot - missing cyggdkcardimage-0.dll

2018-11-17 Thread Dan Kegel
I don't have any dll for you, but I did scare up some source code, maybe.

https://stuff.mit.edu/afs/athena/astaff/project/aui/OldFiles/src/third/gnome-games/po/gnome-games.pot

leads me to believe that the source code is part of freecell, i.e.
https://stuff.mit.edu/afs/athena/astaff/project/aui/OldFiles/src/third/gnome-games/freecell/gdk-card-image/
But at least some builds make that a static library, so I'm not sure it
always exists as a dll.
https://web.archive.org/web/20030404002521/http://homepage.ntlworld.com:80/steven.obrien2/libs/patches/gnome-games-1.4.0.4-cygwin.patch
may also be of interest, that's what
https://sourceforge.net/projects/cygnome/files/Games_Amusement/aisleriot/
refers to.

Gee, they used Scheme :-)

Good luck!

considering that it is from the time of Cygwin 1.3 and Gnome 1, I
suspect that if also you find it, it will depend on other obsolete libraries

There is no obsolete, there is only legacy, in the Cygwin Time Machine:
http://ctm.crouchingtigerhiddenfruitbat.org/pub/cygwin/circa/index.html
If you know what Cygwin version you have, you can pick more quickly.

The package is available in many other distributions and sources are available:

Cygwin Git with Windows paths

2018-11-17 Thread Steven Penny

Cygwin Git can clone with Unix form paths:

   $ git clone git://github.com/benhoyt/goawk /tmp/goawk
   Cloning into '/tmp/goawk'...
   remote: Enumerating objects: 330, done.

However it fails with Windows form:

   $ git clone git://github.com/benhoyt/goawk 'C:\cygwin64\tmp\goawk'
   Cloning into 'C:\cygwin64\tmp\goawk'...
   fatal: Invalid path '/home/Steven/C:\cygwin64\tmp\goawk': No such file or
   directory

and mixed form:

   $ git clone git://github.com/benhoyt/goawk C:/cygwin64/tmp/goawk
   fatal: Invalid path '/home/Steven/C:/cygwin64': No such file or directory

Note that other Cygwin programs work fine with these forms:

   $ ls 'C:\cygwin64'
   bin Cygwin.ico dev home sbin usr
   Cygwin.bat Cygwin-Terminal.ico etc lib tmp var

This causes problems for any non-Cygwin tools that might call Git:
