There's a URL which explains how inclusion of packages work:

http://cygwin.com/setup.html

Send a mail to cygwin-apps, including a description what that
package is, a setup.hint file and an URL to your binary and
source package so that other people can have a look into it.

how to resolve "Connection reset by peer" from client side?

2001-12-10 Thread Enrico Bernardini

Hi,
I falled in the "Connection reset by peer" Windows bug (see
http://sources.redhat.com/ml/cygwin/2001-09/msg01589.html)
+ /* A bug in the Windows TCP/IP implementation, which is not

+ process sending it exits before it's read by the other

+ information anyway, it is safe for us to just not read it
+ to avoid this problem. */

I don't want modify the server side of amanda242p2. I inserted a "sleep
60;" after the socket "close" to permit the goodbye message flush. It
seems to work but it's awfull. Have you any idea?

P.s. Corinna, I apologize for the last bad post :-). I have no urls, but
I'm looking for. Thanks for your great job.

Many thanks

psql ERROR

2001-12-10 Thread Ray Martin

Hello,
This is a two part message\report:

Running Win2K Server " Please no snickers" =) All up to date !
Was running Cygwin 1.3.5 Complete install "net of course"
---
The first one is about "tcsh shell", that was not a real biggy. Because I
normally use "bash". Then I tried to get "PostgresSQL 7.1.3" installed &
configured and it seamed a bit more serious. I have included everthing I can
think of in this email.

The first thing I did was get the lastest copy of CYGWIN ver 1.3.6, this was
to try & fix the error I got when I tried to go from "Bash Shell" to "Tcsh
Shell" Error counld not find "cygcurses5.dll"
Then following the instructions in "postgresql-7.1.3.README" I downloaded &
installed "cygipc-1.11-1.tar.bz2". Following the README for "IPC". I setup
all the user accounts and service for "ipc-daemon" & "PostgresSQL". Started
& tested "ipc", all went good. Then went through setting up "initdb &
Postmaster", all went good. Then when I fired off the command "psql
templete1" is when I got the same Error as I did when I tried to use "tcsh".

My real question is:
Am I to make this "cugcurses5.dll" locally on my computer, or should it be
part of the binary Dist. of "Cygwin"?
OR; Is this A BUG?

Both "ipc-daemon & postmaster" are runnig fine as services. throwing NO
ERROR or taxing the system.

I would be very thankful for any pointers or help on this!

Best Regards, Ray Martin [EMAIL PROTECTED]

CVS check-out files with CRLF instead of LF

2001-12-10 Thread Ferdinando Ametrano

Hi all

this is probably a naive question but when I check out from CVS all files
have CRLF instead of LF, even if I installed cygwin with the 'Unix files'
option. This is a problem with .am, .in, and .m4 files.
'cvs -v' is 1.11
What should I do to have LF instead of CRLF on check out?

thank you

ualarm() does not conform to

2001-12-10 Thread Billinghurst, David (CRTS)

Cygwin has recently acquired the ualarm function. The function is declared
in as

useconds_t _EXFUN(ualarm, (useconds_t __useconds));

This doesn't match the The Single UNIX Specification Version 2 at
http://www.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/007908799/xsh/ualarm.html, which wants

useconds_t ualarm(useconds_t useconds, useconds_t interval);

Too late to look at the source tonight.

An Amazing Program!

2001-12-10 Thread Mike

-Dear Friend:

AS SEEN ON NATIONAL TV:

"Making over half million dollars every 4 to 5 months from your home

for an investment of only $25 U.S. Dollars expense one

time" THANKS TO THE COMPUTER AGE AND THE INTERNET!

Before you say "Bull", please read the following. This is the letter

you have been hearing about on the news lately. Due to the

popularity of this letter on the Internet, a national weekly news

program recently devoted an entire show to the investigation of

this program described below, to see if it really can make people

money.

The show also investigated whether or not the program was legal. Their

findings proved once and for all that there are "absolutely NO Laws

prohibiting the participation in the program and if people can follow

the simple instructions, they are bound to make some mega bucks with

only $25 out of pocket cost".

DUE TO THE RECENT INCREASE OF POPULARITY & RESPECT

THIS PROGRAM HAS ATTAINED, IT IS CURRENTLY WORKING

BETTER THAN EVER.

This is what one had to say:

"Thanks to this profitable opportunity. I was approached many times

before but each time I passed on it. I am so glad

I finally joined just to see what one could expect in return for the

minimal effort and money required. To my astonishment, I

received total $ 610,470.00 in 21 weeks, with money still coming in".

Pam Hedland, Fort Lee, New Jersey.

-

Here is another testimonial:

"This program has been around for a long time but I never believed in it.

But one day when I received this again in

the mail I decided to gamble my $25 on it. I followed the

simple instructions and walaa . 3 weeks later the money

started to come in. First month I only made $240.00 but

the next 2 months after that I made a total of $290,000.00.

So far, in the past 8 months by re-entering the program, I

have made over $710,000.00 and I am playing it again.

The key to success in this program is to follow the simple

steps and NOT change anything."

More testimonials later but first,

*** PRINT THIS NOW FOR YOUR FUTURE REFERENCE ***

$$$

If you would like to make at least $500,000 every 4 to 5 months

easily and comfortably, please read the following...THEN READ

IT AGAIN and AGAIN!!!

$$$

FOLLOW THE SIMPLE INSTRUCTION BELOW AND YOUR

FINANCIAL DREAMS WILL COME TRUE, GUARANTEED!

INSTRUCTIONS:

Order all 5 reports shown on the list below.

For each report, send $5 CASH, THE NAME & NUMBER OF

THE REPORT YOU ARE ORDERING and YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS

to the person whose name appears ON THAT LIST next to the report.

MAKE SURE YOUR RETURN ADDRESS IS ON YOUR ENVELOPE

TOP LEFT CORNER in case of any mail problems.

When you place your order, make sure you order each of the 5

reports. You will need all 5 reports so that you can save them on

your computer and resell them. YOUR TOTAL COST $5 X 5 = $25.00.

Within a few days you will receive, vie e-mail, each of the 5

reports from these 5 different individuals. Save them on your

computer so they will be accessible for you to send to the 1,000's

of people who will order them from you. Also make a floppy of these

reports and keep it on your desk in case something happen to your

computer.

. IMPORTANT -DO NOT alter the names of the people who are

listed next to each report, or their sequence on the list, in

any way other than what is instructed below in step '' 1 through

6 '' or you will loose out on majority of your profits. Once you

understand the way this works, you will also see how it does not

work if you change it.

Remember, this method has been tested, and if you alter, it

will NOT work!!! People have tried to put their friends/relatives

names on all five thinking they could get all the money. But it

does not work this way. Believe us, we all have tried to be greedy

and then nothing happened.

So Do Not try to change anything other than what is instructed.

Because if you do, it will not work for you. Remember, honesty

reaps the reward!!!

1.. After you have ordered all 5 reports, take this advertisement

and REMOVE the name & address of the person in REPORT # 5. This

person has made it through the cycle and is no doubt counting

their fortune.

2 Move the name & address in REPORT #4 down TO REPORT #5.

3 Move the name & address in REPORT #3 down TO REPORT #4.

4 Move the name & address in REPORT #2 down TO REPORT #3.

5 Move the name & address in REPORT #1 down TO REPORT #2

6 Insert YOUR name & address in the REPORT #1 Position.

PLEASE MAKE SURE you copy every name & address

ACCURATELY!

=

Take this entire letter, with the modified list of names, and save

it on your computer. DO NOT MAKE ANY OTHER

The latest newlib contains the correct definition. It has been

I just tried a hand rebase of my system using the MS supplied rebase
tool to see if this will fix the problem at least for the Python case.
Specifically, I rebased the following DLLs:

o Python DLL (e.g., libpython2.2.dll)
o all Python standard shared extension modules (e.g., _socket.dll)
o all Cygwin DLLs in /usr/bin that match cyg*.dll except for the
  following:

  - cygwin1.dll: since I believe that it relies on being based
at 0x6100
  - cygcurl-2.dll: because it gets "whacked" by rebase and
AFAICT is not used by Python anyway
  - cygtclpip80.dll: because it appears not to be relocatable

Additionally, following the suggestions from the MSDN, I rebased from
0x6800 down. So, all of the above DLLs were rebased into the range
of 0x672e - 0x6800.

After rebasing, the minimal test case that previously exhibited the
problem:

http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2001-12/msg00419.html

now works fine.

Unfortunately, when I run the complete Python regression test, I still
get the same three test failures as reported by Michael without rebasing:

test_popen2
test_pty
test_socket

When I run these tests individually (i.e., not part of the complete test
suite), then they pass. Hence, the rebasing appears not to completely
solve this problem.

See the attached snippet of output from a regression test run (and
search for 0x1A). It shows that although there should not be DLL base
address conflicts, some DLLs are being rebased in the parent anyway.
A few examples are:

_socket.dll: rebased to 0x67f5 loaded at 0x1A26
cygz.dll:rebased to 0x678b loaded at 0x1A31

Would other Python users (with access to MS's rebase tool) be willing
to try to reproduce my findings to eliminate the possibility of cockpit
error on my part?

Does anyone understand why the DLLs are being rebased even though there
theoretically is no chance of a base address conflict anymore?

Thanks,
Jason

Possibly because the cygwin heap is getting allocated across where those
.dll's would go.

FWIW, and I don't know how much that is, all tests pass if I link _socket
statically. Oh, and this is building without threads, it seems. I'll do
a new build with threads and see if anything changes, but I doubt it.

So what is it that dynamically loading _socket does that screws fork()?

Cheers,
M.

That is what I figured. Any suggestions on a good address to use during

Bug report: Several keys missing

2001-12-10 Thread Gunnar Parment

Hi!

This bug report relates to the known problem: "Pipe key (`|') doesn't work
on non-US keyboards in Win9x/ME"

MY BUG:
All AltGr-combinations (also known as Ctrl-Alt-combinations) doesn't work,
which mean that I can not use those characters: @ $ \ | ~

I'm using Windows98 and Swedish keyboard drivers. I tried both the
standard swedish qwerty and my home made Swedish Dvorak with the same
result.

As stated in the related bug mentioned above, using rxvt is a workaround.

You can find a pre-built procmail at:

http://www.dd.iij4u.or.jp/~madokam/

Otherwise, you can try my attached build recipe. Note the following:

1. You will need BIND installed to build procmail -- search the
archives for the Cygwin BIND patch.
2. Building procmail under Cygwin is a little touchy. Sometimes I
have to restart the make part to get the build to complete.
3. You will be prompted during the make part -- this is indicated by
   "# /usr/sbin/ssmtp".

I use fetchmail to retrieve my mail. Since fetchmail defaults to using
procmail as its MDA, no extra setup is required.

GREAT IDEA !

I just rebuilt python 2.1.1 with threads and linking _socket statically
and all seems to work :-)

I downloaded cygwin-compiled procmail from
http://www.dd.iij4u.or.jp/~madokam/. Right now, I am trying to use it to
filter an existing test mailbox that has two messages in it by running

When I try to do this, procmail gives me all kinds of odd errors. Here's
what procmail puts into stderr:

Don't know for sure but judging by the missing quotes and first letter

Re: broken "src" archives f. cygwin-1.3.6-5.src (was: cygwin-1.3.6-5 released)

Here is my reply mostly in english.

I am dowloading version "1.3.6-6". And just judging by the file-size it bears more
hope.
Did you notice I talked about the "src" package specifically yesterday? The binary of
"1.3.6-5"
did download here too, and install and run fine. It's just the "src" which was too
short. On at
least four mirrors it was only 1.84MB for the src pkg. Now the new version gives me
about
3.7MB for the "src" which is still the smallest "src.tar.bz2" of all releases since
"1.3.2-1" -
"1.3.6", but it is considerablyu bigger than the "1.3.6-5" src pkg @ 1.84MB.
And YES 1.3.6-6 "src" pkg is complete (at least it doesn't fail the "bzip2" test) .
Thanks.

RSA Authentication not working on Windows 2000/NT

2001-12-10 Thread David Woakes

I cannot get RSA authentication to work at all when sshd is run logged in
as localsystem. I have read that there are supposed to be problems with
the login session being run as System. Is this likely to be fixed in the
future or is there a work around (apart from running sshd logged in as the
user you want to validate as) ?

Great! Now I can ssh into my system... thanks Corinna.

Unfortunately, now cron seems to be broken:

My crontab has:

but, 1:30 PM came and went, and no notepad popped up. Nothing else I
stick in there seems to work either, including simple "echo Cron works!"
type stuff (and yes, I do have ssmtp configured correctly).

I started cron with

cygrunsrv -I cron -p /usr/sbin/cron -a -D
cygrunsrv --start cron

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: telnet installation problems

2001-12-10 Thread Wityk, Michael

I don't have that doc, /usr/doc/Cygwin/inetutils-x.x.x-README.

I'm reviewing the Cygwin/XFree86 User's Guide.

I'm from an NT background so I'm expecting to go the the cygwin command box
and type 'telnet'.

I've tried this next according to the users guide, what am I missing?

$ ./xhost targetbox
./xhost: unable to open display ""

I'm trying to telnet according to page 16 and page 17 of the Cygwin/XFree86
User's Guide.

Unsecure Telnet
On your Windows machine:
1. Launch Cygwin/XFree86
2. In an X terminal type /usr/X11R6/bin/xhost remote_host_ip_address
3. In an X terminal type /usr/bin/telnet remote_host_ip_address. Use the
explicit
path to ensure that Cygwin's telnet is run instead of Microsoft's telnet;
Microsoft's telnet will crash
on startup when run from Cygwin/XFree86.
4. Login to your remote machine via your telnet session
5. In your telnet session type, DISPLAY=windows_host_ip_address:0.0
6. In your telnet session type, export DISPLAY
7. You can now launch remote X clients in your telnet session, for example,
xterm& will launch an
xterm running on your remote host that will display on your Cygwin/XFree86
screen.
8. Launch other remote clients in the same manner; I recommend starting the
remote clients in the
background, by appending & to the command name, so that you don't have to
open several telnet
sessions.

It looks like you downloaded inetutils on 11/28/2001, but they didn't
get installed. If you run setup again and select the inetutils-x.x.x
package to be installed, it should put telnet in /usr/bin/telnet.

There is also a cygwin-xfree mailing list that might be able to help you
with the xhost stuff, but hopefully the only problem is the missing
inetutils/telnet.

This is much more detailed, thank you.

Here's a little more info from the Event Viewer.

cron says:

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( /USR/SBIN/CRON ) cannot
be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry
information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote
computer. The following information is part of the event: /USR/SBIN/CRON
: Win32 Process Id = 0x288 : Cygwin Process Id = 0x288 : (ryans) CMD
(/usr/bin/echo Cron works!).

and then it says:

be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry
information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote
computer. The following information is part of the event: /USR/SBIN/CRON

How do I fix this "can't switch user context" error?

Yes, thanks for the suggestion, I'm going to try this. At least I remember

[ANNOUNCEMENT] Updated: mutt-1.2.5i-6 email client

2001-12-10 Thread Gary R. Van Sickle

I've updated the version of mutt to 1.2.5i-6. This release fixes the "plusses
in the pager" problem when viewing received email. Therefore, as of this
release, email reading, sending, and sending binary attachments are known to
work regardless of textmode/binmode concerns. Saving receivied binary
attachments is known to still be broken on textmode mounts, but does work if
you're running strictly binary mounts.

Linked against the latest libncurses6 and cygwin1.dll (1.3.6-6).

Once you update, be sure to see the /usr/doc/Cygwin/mutt-1.2.5i-6.README and the
HTML docs in /usr/doc/mutt-1.2.5i/html for more information.

Please send any Cygwin-specific Mutt questions or bug reports (e.g., "Mutt's
acting crazy and I'm pretty sure it's just this Cygwin port") to
mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]. For non-Cygwin-specific questions or bug reports
(e.g., "How do I change the UI colors?"), please visit the official Mutt site at
http://www.mutt.org/.

===

To update your installation, click on the "Install Cygwin now" link on
the http://cygwin.com web page. This downloads setup.exe to your system.

Run setup and answer all of the questions.

Note that if this is the first time that you've run the new GUI version
of setup, it will currently download the whole cygwin net release again.
After this point it will only download what is needed.

If you have questions or comments, please send them to the Cygwin
mailing list at: [EMAIL PROTECTED] . I would appreciate
if you would use this mailing list rather than emailing me directly.
This includes ideas and comments about the setup utility or Cygwin
in general.

If you want to make a point or ask a question the Cygwin mailing list is
the appropriate place.

UNIX Sockets - Broadcasting - Broadcast address

2001-12-10 Thread Kay M

I have written a client program that connects to the local broadcast address
and reads datagrams that are produced by a server. It works on my linux (no
internet) machine. But on my PC under CYGWIN the binding of the socket to
the Broadcast Address give an error EADDRNOAVAIL.

I tried both 127.255.255.255 and also INADDR_BROADCAST. If I change
broadcast address to 127.255.255.254, then server and client both work
under Cygwin, but that isnt Broadcasting address though.

Can anyone help /explain ?

when i use the bourne shell (sh,) the literal characters
that are used to form the prompt (i.e., environmental

the following gibberish:

\[\033]0;\w\007

can something be done to fix this? note: this

Hello,
I need help. I just downloaded Cygwin, but there is nothing here i.e.

move around through the directories with no functionality. I am new to
Linux/UNIX. When I downloaded, there was no option for setup.exe.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

RE: building clisp on cygwin

2001-12-10 Thread Billinghurst, David (CRTS)

OK. The ualarm stuff is very new in cygwin - since my build of clisp - and
it wasn't quite right at first.

With:
 - cygwin-1.3.6-6,
 - the clisp patches I posted a few weeks ago
 - the following hacks to
- clisp-2.27/src/unix.d
- clisp-2.27/src/unixaux.d
I got a successful build. Still one failure with "make check".

These patches just disables some cygwin support that is no longer required,
and removes a conflicting definition of ualarm. Not a neat fix, but it is a
start.
