[Crowbar] Quantum Proposal Failing

2013-06-30 Thread Jeffrey Jones
I've built my disc from the current dev pull and I almost have a working
openstack demo up using crowbar, but quantum doesn't seem to deploy no matter
which node I try to deploy it to. Also, is the admin-token required for a
successful deployment? No matter what value I put in there crowbar refuses to
deploy it...

[Crowbar] Potential new opportunity question...

2013-06-30 Thread John_Sherrill
We have a customer that is just starting to look at OpenStack / CloudStack as
possible solution to the new datacenter. Do you have a crowbar contact
resource we can engage for customer facing presentation/demo purposes?

Re: [Crowbar] barclamp to install an ISO image on a node?

2013-06-30 Thread Kading, John I.
Hi Mike,

Thanks for the email. A few questions here to clarify what you're saying. I am
running the Crowbar administration node with Ubuntu. Offhand, I believe I am
running crowbar 1.7. Are you saying that I would be able to use the provisioner
barclamp to install any ISO image I want to a booting machine?

I heard and read that in crowbar 2.0, this capability will exist, but in 1.X it
does not. Does this sound right to you?

Thanks,
John

The provisioner barclamp is the one which installs the core OS, and it supports
different flavors of operating systems.
https://github.com/crowbar/barclamp-provisioner

Our hadoop releases use CentOS or RedHat EL for the operating system, while the
crowbar administration node runs Ubuntu. The 'dev' tool supports these
alternatives in the build environment.

2013-06-30 Thread Imran Mirza
That's my problem, im trying to figure our how to connect them and use traffic
for deployment. Chris Hardy helped us yesterday in setting up (3) Force10 S60s
with a NSA250M as the gateway (all5 ports used up) as:

- (1) S60 for Hadoop with 1 port going into the NSA250M

- (1) S60 for Openstack with 1 port going into the NSA250M

- (1) S60 for General Purpose with 1 port going into the NSA250M

I'm not sure how to use the R420 (32GB Ram, 2xCPU 2 eth ports) besides adding
an additional eth port.

The Crowbar VMs will be

- (1) for Hadoop,

- (1) for Opensatck and

- (1) Custom Crowbar build for deploying GPU compute, Microsoft
Hyper-V, and VMware vSphere Farms

Imran,

Please can you explain what you are trying to achieve? It is possible to run
multiple VM nodes on an R420.
Suggest you send a diagram showing how you propose to connect two Ethernet
ports over three switches.

Can you as Julio if we can run 3 Crowbar VMs concurrently (one for Openstack,
one for Hadoop, and one for general purpose) on a R420 with only two Ethernet
ports? Not sure how that will tie into three S60 switches that are independent
from each other and on separate subnets.

Re: [Crowbar] Crowbar

2013-06-30 Thread Christopher_Hardy
I am unable to get ahold of Julio. Upon review of the github for crowbar it can
be installed on a virtual system however it requires a NIC for each subnet that
it has to access.

https://github.com/crowbar/crowbar/wiki/Running-Crowbar-in-VirtualBox-VMs

The only way you could do this would be to add extra NICs as Crowbar seems to
access each network to provide the deployment option.

There would not be a suitable way to do this using a system with only 2 NICs
that I have read.

I know very little about the requirements for the crowbar system and the
network that it must interact with. The link above may provide more information
for you.

[Crowbar] Nova smoketest modifications

2013-06-30 Thread Sergey Levchenko
Hello colleagues, this letter will contain some detailed explanations on
what modifications were done to nova "00-deploy-nova-vm.test" smoke-test
file and why, also I would like to expalin what we want to achive and what
we'll do next.

First of all let me remind you that almost all tests in file mentioned
above can be implemented with tempest, except ssh tests (due to tempest
functionality limitations we are unable to use ssh keys for conducting
ssh-based tests on vm instances and due to libvirt problems we can't use
ssh passwords too). That's why smoketests were written as separated bash
scripts, and our goal is to develop a set of smoketests which will cover
with tests all core functions needed for cinder.

 Following functions were added:

Cinder-volume tests:
1. Create volume
2. Volume List (with tests if created volume is in "available" state)
3. Volume attach (with tests if it accesible from vm)
4. Volume detach
5. Volume snapshot
6. Test volume created from a snapshot (list\convert to volume)
7. Check availability of volumes created from snapshots, from inside of
guest OS
8. Remove snapshots and parent volumes

Tests implementaion in progress:

9. Snapshot vm to volume
10. Boot from snapshoted instance-volume(with tests if it accesible from vm)
11. Create volume from image
12. Boot from volume created from image(with tests if it accesible from vm)
13. Snapshot delete
14. Full volumes cleanup

Best regards, Sergey Levchenko.

[Crowbar] rabbitmq explanation

2013-06-30 Thread Sergey Yudin
Arkady requested kind of explanation to be sent to that mailing list, so
here it is.

>What is the reason why rabbitmq proposal does not have some default
password for user nova, as all other proposals do? If we make that change
will we also need to update all BCs that are dependent on rabbitmq to have
that password?

rabbitmq barclamp provides only one user/password/vhost for all the
components. Password generates automaticaly unless user defined it by hand.
We provide user/vhost/password/etc to all other components throught chef
attributes so there is no need to modify all other barclamps in case if we
changed the password.

I guess I should probably elaborate. Dell and SUSE have a go-to-market
relationship around OpenStack and I can do the demonstration of Crowbar using
the version we use in SUSE Cloud.
