I use the term of noise surfing, instead of laziness.

Unfortunately this is not that point that is in question - I think we all agree
on this.

[computer-go] H7-moratorium ?

2009-08-21 Thread Ingo Althöfer
Yesterday and today there have been three
exhibiton games of Chun-Hsun Chou (9p),
on 19x19 board against three different bots
(Zen, Many Faces of Go, Mogo). In all these
games the bots got 7 handicap stones.

Chou won all the games convincingly.

Looking at Nick Wedd's table
http://www.computer-go.info/h-c/index.html
we see that so far there was only one bot win
against a high-dan pro in handicap 7 games:
it was in February 2009 against Jun-Xun Zhou 9p,
in the first game of a series of 4 games.

After that there were 8 games (against 4 different
top pros; with three different bots) at handicap 7,
and all were clear wins for the humans.

So, handicap 7 seems to be not appropriate at the
current state of affairs. I understand the problem
of finding top pros to play at handicap 8 or 9 -
so a moratorium for handicap 7 might be appropriate.

Ingo.

PS: COngratulations to Martin Mueller and the Fuego team
for the 9x9-win (and 1:1 score) against Chun-Hsun Chou (9p),
today !
