Public bug reported: Alan Pope of the Ubuntu-uk mailing list says this sounds like a Compiz bug. There's about a half-second delay on loading a square segment at the top left of the Firefox display every time it's launched. Any previous display continues to show in this space during the load. I have this on three machines, all running 12.10, but one member of the Ubuntu-uk mailing list says he has it on 12.04. Hi all, When this bug happened, I used to have it working by moving unity before scale and expo plugins in gconf editor. The bug happens after a kernel update, at least for me. But now the workaround does not work anymore (I can't remember if it stopped working just from 12.10 or if it once worked with 12.10 and then stopped with a later update, sorry for this...) , and the dconf actions does not work either. So this might not be as simple as changing the plugins order. Furthermore, the "Revert to default" in compiz config editor, done on "unity" configuration, crashes Unity permanently. Even after reboot, not Unity interface shows up. The only way was to use the Webupd8 "unity- reset" tool via command line. We only use the pixmaps provided to us by the application . if the application renders a broken pixmap we just render that as well. Supporting the damage sync protocol work happening in GNOME would go a long way to fixing this problem but Firefox would have to support the protocol too. Changing the order doesn't solve the bug. It just is a workaround (that for me doesn't work *all* the time). I can reproduce this with only a single eog instance. It happens every time when opening image files from Unity dash. The eog window is not focused, even when there are no other windows present on the current viewport. I can't reproduce the pixmap leak in 13.04 (compiz 1:0.9.9~daily13.01.21-0ubuntu1), but the window handle leak is still present. I tried testcase.py in 13.04 and do not see the behavior seen in this bug. There is no window decoration after the un-maximize. I wonder if this is now fixed indirectly? That said, I can reproduce it in 12.10. @Chauncellor Yes, I am on up to date 12.04 and I can reproduce that lack of focus by opening a file from nautilus using the Enter key or mouse double click.
