Also sorry I missed it. We had out-of-town house guests which threw a
monkey-wrench into my schedule. Please keep me on the "interested" list for
next time.

Thanks.

Our 1st virtual zoom rendezvous was an absolute success. People that showed
an interest were sent a personal invitation to participate. Owners from the
West Coast, East Coast, Gulf of Mexico, New England and Canada participated.

Basically, it was a greet and meet and then an open discussion and some
great, varied conversations took place.

This was a first for us and maybe for boating enthusiasts world-wide.

I am planning another rendezvous in the near future and would like some
suggestions. Should it be just a greet and meet and then open discussion or
should we narrow in on a specific topic. Let me know your ideas.

Just moved out to a heavier mooring but still only 500lb. It didn't have a
bridle like I normally have, only a single but plenty of chafe guard.
Lashed it down tight. Not excited for today at all.

Stu,

Totally enjoyed the virtual rendezvous. Thanks again for organizing and all
that you do.

I think, at least for now, is to keep the meet and greet, then let the
conversation flow, rather than a specific topic. Perhaps down the road you
could incorporate specific topics such as a Rob Ball presentation or something
on diesel engines.

Was great to “meet” some other Listers yesterday.

All the best,

Edd

when I jump aboard to deal with it the surging water dumped me right off
the boat. Being MOB without my morning coffee SUCKS!!! Climbed back in
and bailed it out and set the bilge pump to manual on. Then down to
Coquina to see how she is fairing. With the jib and bimini off and extra

Right now I am trapped at home, the water is too deep to drive anymore.

Of course a broke wire or bad connection anywhere
between the transducer and the instrument will
cause it all to not work.  We would just pull the
transducer and connect it directly to the back of
the instrument to see what happens.

From the Troubleshooting section (last page) of
the pdf I linked:

TROUBLESHOOTING

DISPLAY READS ZERO- The problem could be either the
transmitter or the display. Please follow the
proceeding steps to determine cause of the problem-

A. Measure the two wires of the transmitter with
an ohm meter for resistance value of
approximately 2000 ohms (2K ohms). Do not spin
the paddlewheel.

a. If unit is good, then check paddlewheel
for any broken fins or missing magnets.

b. If unit is open (infinite resistance) then
unit needs replacing.

B. Measure with an AC voltmeter when the
paddlewheel is spinning. You should get
approximately 1.0 VAC at about 5 knots of speed
when unloaded (not hooked up to display).

INTERMITTENT READINGS- Keep the unit wired as normal
and add an AC voltmeter to where the input wires of
the transmitter are connected. Motor or sail as usual-

A. If an AC voltage is being produced but no
speed indication appears on display, then the
problem is in the display.

B. If readings only occur when voltages are
produced, then the paddlewheel is not always
turning. Clean paddlewheel first and be sure it
spins freely, and then try again. If the results
are the same then paddlewheel may need replacing.

On the other side of the Bay from Reedville (and just South of Joe), St.
Michaels fared rather well. The eye went right over us and eight inches of rain
flooded the boat yard and low lying places, and the wind blew big time.
Branches down, etc. But it came near low tide which helped a bunch. Moved
Penniless over to the sheltered side of the boat yard yesterday, everything
held and now I can move her back. We lucked out.

I'm 2.5 hours from my boat but the storm followed the predictions here in New
Jersey and our power blinked three times but stayed on. The rain was super
heavy and wind was at least 60mph at times. Two small Oak trees broke about
twenty feet up and branches fell onto the neighbors fence. Debris is
everywhere but the house faired ok. I made chilli on the gas range for lunch,
and the wind has returned to normal and now we have full sun and the air smells
great outside as we pick up debris on the street and the front lawn. I'll have
to drive to the boat to check if the trees next to my boat stayed up.

Unfortunately, the harbor faces south which is the prevailing wind direction,
so I suspect we are getting serious waves in the mooring field. No camera

Already people are asking when will the next rendezvous take place? I need

1. What day of the week is best – any day, weekdays only, weekends only
2. What time of the day – or maybe a combination of a time and a day –
remember us guys on the east coast are a few hours ahead of the westerners.

I think most people are in favour of a ‘greet and meet’ social event. So that
will probably be the agenda. Just remember to keep your social distancing.

Let me know your ideas.

I have been watching that camera, but unfortunately it is a mile further up the
harbor and sheltered to some extent by the big State Pier and peninsula
sticking out. I am much closer to the harbor mouth and much more exposed. But
gusts have not exceeded 40 at New London Ledge Light lighthouse which is just
outside the harbor, and that should not be a problem unless it increases a lot.

Went out to the boat yesterday and used all the dock lines I own to add
extra spring lines on both sides (including across the empty slip next to
me) and took the sails off and stowed them below. Probably was overkill as
we now are not expecting to see anything over 45 kts or as the center of
the storm is well west. However, the seaport marina in Lynn is exposed to
the south which is the primary wind direction here so I was concerned about
extra windage. Biggest risk is that the marina will fall apart
unfortunately (it isn't in good shape) or something else will come loose
and hit the boat. Just have to hope for the best. Here at home in Malden,
it is windy and occasional heavy rain but nothing too extreme so far.

Of course a broke wire or bad connection
anywhere between the transducer and the
instrument will cause it all to not
work.  We would just pull the transducer and
connect it directly to the back of the instrument to see what happens.

From the Troubleshooting section (last page) of the pdf I linked:

Â

TROUBLESHOOTINGÂ

Â

DISPLAY READS ZERO- The problem could be
either the transmitter or the display. Please
follow the proceeding steps to determine cause of the problem-

Â

A. Measure the two wires of the transmitter
with an ohm meter for resistance value of
approximately 2000 ohms (2K ohms). Do not spin the paddlewheel.

a. If unit is good, then check paddlewheel for
any broken fins or missing magnets.

b. If unit is open (infinite resistance) then unit needs replacing.

B. Measure with an AC voltmeter when the
paddlewheel is spinning. You should get
approximately 1.0 VAC at about 5 knots of
speed when unloaded (not hooked up to display).

INTERMITTENT READINGS- Keep the unit wired as
normal and add an AC voltmeter to where the
input wires of the transmitter are connected. Motor or sail as usual-

Â

A. If an AC voltage is being produced but no
speed indication appears on display, then the problem is in the display.

B. If readings only occur when voltages are
produced, then the paddlewheel is not always
turning. Clean paddlewheel first and be sure
it spins freely, and then try again. If the
results are the same then paddlewheel may need replacing.  Â

Saw 65Kts gusts at EXRX buoy
 on Long Island
Sound today. Drove down to the town dock through the fallen branches and
watched through binocs as she yawed and veered. I don't recommend it.
Counted around five shredded headsails by the 3rd trip down.
