You've already told a couple of thousand people on this mailing list a load of complete tripe. If you send me a mail message I'll do with it exactly what I want to do, including posting it to all the Internet if I feel so inclined. There's nothing that you can do about that, and there is no protection at all, for any mail that you send to me, in any "regles" or "rules", even if you sent the mail to me by accident. This disclaimers-in-footers thing is bad joke that's getting out of hand, and you'd be much better employed telling the legal jobsworths to take a hike, and then employing some competent network security people. Having said that, you can do what you want with MIMEDefang if you wish, but ClamAV won't do it for you. The best you can do is mark it with a mail header, which less than 0.1% of your users will know how to find. Still less will know what it means. For information on how to do that please read man clamd.conf Also read that same man page to find out why, even if you did exactly what you're asking to do in your post, there are all sorts of other reasons why compressed files might not be scanned. For example if you didn't scan a .rar file because, well, it's a .rar file, and, further, because it isn't a .zip file you _didn't_ then tell the recipient that the file hasn't been scanned, do you then make yourself liable to the recipient for _not_ telling him it wasn't scanned - when if you simply never did anything (even for .zip files that you hadn't scanned) you wouldn't have been liable? It's a insanity, and as far as I can tell the only reason that it's continuing is so that a conspiracy of already overpaid legal thieves can fleece even more money out of their already overburdened victims. Ok, sorry for language. For security reason I can't open the firewall port to download the latest virus db upgrade directly from the clamAV web site. I need to access to the site from my work station, download the update locally and finally put it on the HPUX server. Do you think that's possible to do it? Hi Alain, Thanks for your quick answer. I can't access to the *cvd files as the db virus format file is not readable. I need to take them (via ftp or via httpd) and put them on my workstation and in a second time to put them on hpux servers. Do yu think is this possible? The clam scanners (clamd, clamscan) don't care how the signatures arrive in the signature directory, they will simply use what ever you put there. How you put it there is up to you. The default method is to use freshclam, but you can use ftp, scp, rcp, rsync, cp, and mv. You should avoid transferring the signature files directly into the working directory from a remote system as the transfer is not instantaneous, and for the period of time it takes to transfer the signatures, they will appear to the scanners as being broken. So use rsync if possible, or transfer the signatures to the target system but to a temporary directory and then move/copy them to the final destination. I prefer rsync as it comes close to doing atomic moves between systems - the incoming file is hidden until it is completely transfered, and then it is renamed and as such appears "instantly". Google 'atomic file operations' to learn more. If you are running clamd then you can signal it that a new signature has arrived and that it can load and use it immediately. Or you can let it find it on its own schedule. dp ___ Help us build a comprehensive ClamAV guide: visit http://wiki.clamav.net http://www.clamav.net/support/ml
