[chirp_users] new update causes saved frequency 1 to populate all frequency windows
I just updated to the new version of chirp today, 16JUN2019. I download saved from radio, edit saved, upload to radio, as I have done 100 times or more. I have 20 saved. I deleted #1, then all frequencies changed to match my 2nd saved frequency. No matter what my first saved frequency is, it overrides all other frequencies in saved and changes ALL frequencies to match what is in the first saved frequency box. The name label fields don’t change at all, but the frequency field does. What can I do to stop this override so all boxes don’t populate with the same frequency? This is maddening. ___ chirp_users mailing list chirp_users@intrepid.danplanet.com http://intrepid.danplanet.com/mailman/listinfo/chirp_users This message was sent to arch...@mail-archive.com at arch...@mail-archive.com To unsubscribe, send an email to chirp_users-unsubscr...@intrepid.danplanet.com
[chirp_users] Transmit UV5r to FRS
I can hear the FRS radios on their respective channels, I cannot transmit on those respective channels. How can I enable the transmit on chirp? Thanks, in advance. Re: [chirp_users] Transmit UV5r to FRS
Let me rephrase this question. I legally purchased 10 motorola talkabout radios. I legally purchased a Baofeng UV 5r to communicate with different radios, legally. I appreciate the hypervigilance and concern for legalities, but my question remains. Please, anyone not referring directly to how to broadcast on a legal frequency, refrain from responding. Also radios have to be certified under FCC Part 95. UV-5R isn't on the list, and FCC is planning on banning the import of any radio capable of being used on a frequency that the unit is not licensed for. That is if it isn't an amateur radio, in the future any radio imported will only be able to be used on amateur radio frequencies. Also in the near future, radios will not be legally allowed to be manufactured, imported , or sold that can be used on BOTH GMRS and FRS. This is going to cause a problem for licensed amateur radio operators who own such radios, like I do: §95.1791 Sales of GMRS/FRS combination radios prohibited. (a) Effective September 30, 2019, no person shall be permitted to manufacture or import, sell or offer for sale any radio equipment capable of operating under both this subpart (GMRS) and subpart B (FRS) of this chapter. FRS allows 2 watts or less on channels 1 – 7 and the previously GMRS only channels of 15 – 22, but only 0.5 watts on channels 8 – 14. GMRS licensees can use up to 50 watts, but there are somewhat complicated restrictions and an FCC 10 year renewable license (good for entire family) is needed. GMRS licensees can also operate on 8 additional repeater frequencies. The regulations for GMRS are quite complicated. https://ecfr.io/Title-47/se47.5.95_11767 I think the past practice of this group not to provide such information to unlicensed persons is a wise one. 73 David N1EA On Thu, Jun 20, 2019 at 4:48 PM Glenn At Home wrote: Let's not play police here. I do believe that the FCC has allowed some of the FRS frequencies, now up to 2 watts. To answer the question, make sure the same frequencies are in the column next to the receive column. I don't recall if they are labeled RX and TX or what. Re: [chirp_users] Rules, Radio capabilities, and CHIRP capabilities
Very good point, My situation, I work on film sets, sometimes internationally. In my particular case, I need to monitor different bands while being able to transmit on others, carrying multiple radios in Belize in the summer is not an ideal scenario. I perceived the mail list to be a last resort after endless googling, I appreciate the links people sent from google, I had already been there. Those who responded directly, I am most appreciative, the baofeng can do what I need it to, unless the FCC sends someone down to Mayan ruins in the jungle with equipment to find me and my crew, it could be an interesting prosecution. We are not a group of enforcers; but we are a group of educators. We should neither encourage nor discourage behavior. But we should take the opportunity to educate. Every radio operator, regardless of jurisdiction, should know the rules and make a conscious choice as to whether or not to obey them, understanding that actions have consequences. It may (or may not) be useful to comment on the rules, but when you do, please make sure you mention which jurisdiction, licence, and hardware. Radio capabilities: Each radio has its own hardware capabilities. Some of these capabilities interact with the rules in some jurisdictions, and sometimes rules change. There is no reason we cannot discuss hardware capabilities independently of the rules, since those capabilities are still usable in some jurisdictions and/or to some users under some circumstances. CHIRP capabilities: Hey, this is the CHIRP user group! We can and should discuss any CHIRP capabilities that may be usable by some CHIRP users in some situations. It is the responsibility of each user to understand the governing rules. It is not the responsibility of the CHIRP software or the CHIRP user community to attempt to enforce these rules, especially since the rules you are trying to enforce may not be applicable to the users you are addressing. A brief sentence to note that a particular capability may violate a rule in a particular situation may be acceptable if it becomes obvious that the user might need the reminder.
