[CentOS] linux/magic.h

2009-10-25 Thread hce
Hi,

I had following errors while I was compiling VLC 1.0.2 on CentOS 5.2:

modules/access/file.c:52:28: error: linux/magic.h: No such file or directory
../../../modules/access/file.c: In function ‘IsRemote’:
../../../modules/access/file.c:141: error: ‘AFS_SUPER_MAGIC’
undeclared (first use in this function)
../../../modules/access/file.c:141: error: (Each undeclared identifier
is reported only once
../../../modules/access/file.c:141: error: for each function it appears in.)
../../../modules/access/file.c:142: error: ‘CODA_SUPER_MAGIC’
undeclared (first use in this function)
../../../modules/access/file.c:143: error: ‘NCP_SUPER_MAGIC’
undeclared (first use in this function)
../../../modules/access/file.c:144: error: ‘NFS_SUPER_MAGIC’
undeclared (first use in this function)
../../../modules/access/file.c:145: error: ‘SMB_SUPER_MAGIC’
undeclared (first use in this function)
make[5]: *** [libaccess_file_plugin_la-file.lo] Error 1

What package is the magic.h belong to? Is the version too old, need be updated?

There is only a magic.h in /usr/include directory, but not in
/usr/include/linux directory. There is no AFS_SUPER_MAGIC, .

What I am missing here?

Thank you.

[CentOS] How to display laptop screen on LCD TV?

2010-02-13 Thread hce
Hi,

I am running CentOS 5.2 on Acer laptop, I try to display laptop screen
on a LCD TV via VGA cable. It was fine while PC was booting in text
mode, but as soon as I started X Window, the LCD TV has error
"Unsupported signal, adjust your PC out".

How can I adjust or may be regenerate an xorg.conf for the LCD TV
(Sony KDL-40V5500)?

Thank you.

Acer Inspire Aspire 5920 laptop with Intel Corporation Mobile
GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03).

I actually tried to run system-config-display --reconfig for Sony
KDL-40V5500 LCD TV, it generated a new xorg.conf and I restarted
laptop, but still could not run X window on LCD TV. Please correct me,
but I thought if the xorg.conf is reconfigurated, it should work
unless that the CentOS 5.2 does not support the type of Sony LCD?

Thanks for your help.

You are right, the CentOS version 5 does not support the video driver
of the Intel graphic chipset. The FC9 works fine. Now the question is
where can I download video driver for CentOS 5? Or, is there anything
I can do to work around to resolve this problem? I have to use this
version of CentOS which our development was based on.

Thank you.

[CentOS] Workplaces / Desktop on panel

Hi,

I've just installed CentOS 5.2, but could not find a workplaces (which
I can switch between them) icon in the panel. I am running in GNOME

Administration, but could not find the workplaces to add to the panel.
Where can I find it and how can I add it to the panel?

Yes, I can use the to bring and cycle the applications, but
it was annoying everytime I have to cycle the applications. If I could
use the mouse to click the application on the panel, it saves me lot
of time.

I've never seen that kind of problem either in FC and Debian. I have
no clue what kind of the setting can be used to fix it, appreciate
anyone advice.

All checked, no problem at all.

I guess alsa and /proc are all fine on my machine, but I've got a
blank result on /proc/asound running following find, no sure if that
was significant:

[asound]$ find . -type f -exec echo {} \; -exec cat {} \; > /tmp/asound

$ rpm -qa | grep -i alsaalsa-utils-1.0.14-3.rc4.el5
alsa-lib-devel-1.0.14-1.rc4.el5
alsa-lib-1.0.14-1.rc4.el5

]$ rpm --verify  alsa-lib-1.0.14-1.rc4.el5.i386
alsa-utils-1.0.14-3.rc4.el5.i386 | echo $?
0

[asound]$ ls
card0 cards devices Intel modules oss pcm seq timers version

[asound]$ pwd && cat modules && cat cards /proc/asound
 0 snd_hda_intel
 0 [Intel  ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
  HDA Intel at 0xf050 irq 66

I've also tried to ls in /proc/asound/Intel:

$ ls
codec#0  codec#1  id  oss_mixer  pcm0c  pcm0p  pcm2c

Seems, all drivers there, is there any command such as cat to verify
low level drivers by playing a sound?

Thank you.

I used above command with a C&P as well. I've also verified the
command to my another FC7 box which has sound worked well, it also
shown a blank result as well.

Actually, I tried without echo $? first, it display lots of
parameters, seems file. I can try the echo $? again, what is the
correct command for it? Is following command correct?

rpm --verify  alsa-lib-1.0.14-1.rc4.el5.i386
lsa-utils-1.0.14-3.rc4.el5.i386; echo $?

I can use vlc to play the *.wav or other audio files, but I tried to
figure out where is the block or missing link with the audio. Right
now, no sound when I run vlc to play audio files. If I could check and
play in some means with low level driver first, I guess I could find
if the problem is high level applications or low lever drivers. Seems
that the drivers all there, but don't know if them are working or not.

Thank you.

[CentOS] MySQL in CentOS 5.2

2008-07-06 Thread hce
Hi,

I've just installed MySQL (mysql.i386 5.0.45-7.el5) and lighty
(lighttpd.i386 1.4.19-1.el5.rf) to the CentOS 5.2, but could not find
mysql and lighttpd scripts in /etc/init.d. Also there is no
/usr/bin/mysql_install_db. Where can I find mysql and lighttpd scripts
for starting the processes in init.d?

Thank you.

[CentOS] Send syslog to a remote server

2009-05-20 Thread hce
Hi,

I am running CentOS 5 and I tried to config flowing statement in
syslog.conf to send syslog messages to a remote server running on FC
9, but it did not work. There was nothing send to the FC9.

"*.info;mail.none;authpriv.none;cron.none@@192.168.1.5"

Could anyone advice whether the syslog in CentOS 5 does not support
remote server, or I could be missing something?

System:

DISTRO_NAME=centos
DISTRO_VERSION=5
DISTRO_CODENAME=final
DISTRO_PATCHLEVEL=5
DISTRO_ARCH=x86_64
DISTRO_KERNEL=2.6.18_53.el5

The rsyslog.conf in FC 9 is much easy to be configured, just enable
the InputTCPServerRun and ModLoad. It is not the problem in FC 9
rsyslog server, it is the problem in CentOS syslog, no messages
sending to FC9 when I checked with tcpdump on port 514 on FC9.

Has anyone made CentOS 5 syslog work to send messages to remote syslog
server? Or, I am wondering if it has never worked on CentOS 5?

Thanks Dag and all responses.

Is the CentOS 5 running only for syslog? In my case, the remote server
is running rsyslog, but that the CentOS syslog should be able to talk
to RH9 rsyslog, right?

Tried both. Nothing coming from the CentOS messages on port 514.

[CentOS] syslog to remote server

2009-08-06 Thread hce
Hi,

I set up the syslog.conf to log local0 and local1 to a remote log server:

*.info;mail.none;authpriv.none;cron.none;local0.none;local1.none
 /var/log/messages

local0.*;local1.*   @192.168.1.2

The messages from local0 worked fine, all sent to the remote log
server. But all messages from local1 were still displayed in
/var/log/messages despite it has been set to local1.none. Of cause, no
local1 messages were sending to the remote server. Could I be missing
something here, or could be a bug in 2.6.18-53.el5 which I am running?

Thank you.

[CentOS] xulrunner-devel package missing many header files

2008-09-07 Thread hce
Hi,

I've just installed xulrunner-devel from yum, but there are following
header files cannot be found in xulrunner-sdk-1.9/sdk/include:

mozilla-config.h
mozilla-config32.h
prtypes.h

The include/xulrunner-sdk-1.9 constains those above header files, I
did link to them, but xulrunner-sdk-1.9/system_wrappers/prtypes.h has
a problem as well:

#pragma GCC system_header
#pragma GCC visibility push(default)
#include_next
#pragma GCC visibility pop

At final, I could not compile VLC plugin with the
xulrunner-sdk-1.9/sdk. Please advice how to fix it and where could I
install a proper sdk?

Thank you.
