[CentOS] noReplaceConfig equivalent for /etc/yum.conf

2010-07-16 Thread FHDATA

Greetings,

In up2date config file there is a directive by the name of
noReplaceConfig . . .

Do you know what is the /etc/yum.conf equivalent for that?

noReplaceConfig[comment]=When selected, no packages that would change
configuration data are automatically installed
noReplaceConfig=1

[CentOS] centos6 and virtualbox audio problem

2015-07-30 Thread FHDATA

hello,

host: centos6 64bit (dell desktop)
guest: windows 7 64bit
virtualbox: 4.3.30

problem: host has audio but guest does not.
i.e. when virtualbox comes up, it says:

No audio devices could be opened.
ErrorID: HostAudioNotResponding

#lspci -nn | grep -i audio
00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset
Family High Definition Audio Controller [8
086:1c20] (rev 04)
01:00.1 Audio device [0403]: NVIDIA Corporation GF119 HDMI Audio Controller
[10de:0e08] (rev a1)

Pulse audio and Alsa installed on the host.

trying these settings have not worked so far
letting me have audio on the guest:

Host Audio Driver: OSS,PULSE,ALSA
Audio Controller: Intel HD

I am not seeing any audio-related errors in virtualbox log.

lot of time spent on this so far; any idea as what to do
next will be greatly appreciated.

thank you,

I have been using the KeePassX password manager on CentOS 6 and 7 for

units where I use keepass2android. Database compatibility is thus
required.

Are you aware that KeePass 2 works under Linux, with mono? There are
also ports for Android, but I've never tried them.

You may have reasons to prefer KeePassX over KeePass 2, though.

I for one use keepassx. My password database is synchronized between
variety of systems, and I can view/edit it on: CentOS, FreeBSD, MS
Windows, Android (and should be able on any derivatives of those). I
didn't try iOS as currently I don't have a need in that.

Incidentally, does anybody know if there is any necessity in keepassx to
be patched? Did I read the original post correctly: there is no activity
on the development site for long time? Should there be any? (As, I would
say for comparison: cvs is so established software that there is no
development to expect, only if there are any security holes found those
need to be patched). Any insight on KeePassX anybody?

Valeri

hello

using keepassx probably for 10 years or so across linux, win, mac, ios

in late 2015 there was a security issue found and folks @ keepassx.org
patched it fairly quickly and patch propagated
up to epel quickly as well ...

passwd manager {non-cloud ones} , in my opinion,
is a "static" concept ...
unless no issues with the underlying frameworks,
what's there to patch ...

A couple of lines down that page from the buttons is:

If the above is not for you, alternative downloads might be.

following through to one of the mirrors should get you to a listing
that includes:

  CentOS-7-x86_64-LiveGNOME-1708.iso
  CentOS-7-x86_64-LiveKDE-1708.iso

is that what you're after?

[CentOS] delay in establishing network connectivity

2017-10-17 Thread FHDATA

hello,

centos 7

If the system (wired static IP#) is powered down
and stayed powered down for some period: let
say 48 hours or so when it is rebooted again it
can not establish a network connectivity
for some time: 7 to 15 minutes and then
everything network wise is fine...

I am unable to spot any errors in various system logs.

If you think this is on the OS/system side
where do you think I should look to hunt down
some parameter or settings that maybe causing this?

[CentOS] system encryption question

2017-03-01 Thread FHDATA

Hello,

Centos 7.x

Let say a clean-install of Centos 7.x is
being performed on a box simply with two
partitions / and /boot ... and that there is
no extra complexity like lvm , raid ,etc, etc ...

Centos 7.x process allows / to be encrypted with pass phrase...

How can a key, residing on a usb flash drive,
to be added to the encryption of / ?

So the system needs both manual input of pass phrase
as well as presence of usb flash drive to
come up after getting rebooted.

Thank you,
