[CentOS] No announcement for kernel 3.10.0-1062.12.1.el7

2020-02-06 Thread Asle Ommundsen
On our CentOS 7 servers I see there is a new kernel available when doing
yum update:

kernel 3.10.0-1062.12.1.el7
kernel-devel 3.10.0-1062.12.1.el7

However I am not able to find any announcement at redhat.com for this
kernel. The only announcement I find is this from CentOS:
https://www.mail-archive.com/centos-announce@centos.org/msg11573.html

However that CentOS announcement links to this kernel:
https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2020:0375 - but that kernel is the
rt (real time) kernel. Does the CentOS announce link to the wrong kernel
at https://access.redhat.com ?

I did try to search for kernel 3.10.0-1062.12.1.el7 at
https://access.redhat.com - but I am only able to find the rt kernel
announcement. Is anybody else able to find the announcement for this
kernel? Please share a link to it. Thanks!

The kernel does not rely on userspace libraries.

Well, maybe as a package it does. I meant that it's not a dynamic
executable linked to particular version of glibc.

Sorry about that.. we have a script that uses the Errata Page API to
search for the number.

For some reason, kernel-3.10.0-1062.12.1.el7.src.rpm (that exact name)
is in the 0374 and 0375 json results from the errata site.

That is certainly correct .. and you could LIKELY rebuild the el7 source
code on el8 and make it work. but taking the built version for el7 and
trying to run it directly on on el8 will likely cause issues.

Hi folks, I do see some updates coming in for RHEL8.1 and wonder why

Because:

1. It takes time to create a new compose and to test that compose in QA.
CentOS Linux 8 updates require a new compose to release.

2. Because the CentOS Team was traveling to FOSDEM, DevConf and Config
Management Camp since the last week in January until yesterday.

3. Red Hat just dropped another large group of updates for RHEL-8
yesterday .. at least 40 individual SRPM packages and 20 modules (a
module can contain many individual SRPM packages).

We are building and testing the last update set now. We will release
them when they are tested.

Thanks to clarify. I just was curious ...

[CentOS] CentOS Dojo @ Facebook, April 24th. Call for presentations

2020-02-06 Thread Rich Bowen
We are pleased to announce that we will be holding a CentOS Dojo at
Facebook on April 24th of this year.

Facebook is located in Menlo Park (San Francisco) California.

April 24th is the Friday before Red Hat Summit, so you can come for the
main event (ie, the Dojo) and then stay for Red Hat Summit, and save on
travel costs!

The call for presentations is now open, at
https://forms.gle/XYSbTBwUY1AQRT8e7 We are looking for presentations
about anything CentOS related. However, our audience tends towards the
more technical, so while introductory topics are welcome, we are more
likely to select deeper technical talks.

The call for presentations is very short. We will close the CFP on March
16th, or possibly at some point before that once we have a schedule we
like. So don't wait! Submit early! Submit often!

Details about the event will be at
https://wiki.centos.org/Events/Dojo/Facebook2020 as we have them (it's
very sparse right now).

See you in San Francisco!
