That's mainly because they are non-free codecs so aren't included by

All other apps appear to be working fine. As far as I know I do not have a
connectivity issue. If
you are reading this email then the email/smtp stack is working and the network
forwarded to
smtp2go for delivery. IOW, the server appears healthy, just this issue.

What in the update process from a package updating perspective could cause this?

Could I have a bad library? How can I go get a new main.cvd and install it?

I've been looking.
I keep finding claims that Fedora live CD's exist,

I did find a C6 live CD.
No go.
Without additional installs, it would not even try.

To be clear:
flv and avi caused it to complain about the lack of mp4 codecs.

Is there something dragon or totem will play out of the box?

[CentOS] kvm & permission denied

2018-07-15 Thread Gregory P. Ennis
Everyone,

I am trying to install KVM on a desktop unit as a lab project with the
hope of being able to use kvm on one of our office servers after I
learn how. So far I am very low on the learning curve.

I have used the guide to make the installation :

https://www.linuxtechi.com/install-kvm-hypervisor-on-centos-7-and-rhel-
7/

The installation seemed to go well, but when I tried to add Fedora 27
with virt-manager I have continued to get file permission errors. I
have tried turning selinux off, and making sure the directory
permissions are 777 and the file permissions are 666, but have not been
able to succeed. A google search demonstrates others have had this
problem, and I have tried many of the fixes that have been recorded,
but no success.

I am running : CentOS Linux release 7.5.1804 (Core)  with 3.10.0-
862.6.3.el7.x86_64 kernel

CPU : AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-Core Processor

I am using the root account through a konsole interface to activate
virt-manager.

 https://getfedora.org/

specifically

 https://getfedora.org/en/workstation/download/

What it actually does is to download Fedora Media Writer which when run
downloads the correct image and writes it to a memory stick.

Yes, because MPG codecs are not license free.

Probably WebM and OGG video as they are both patent/license free. If
you are looking for something try

  https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Big_Buck_Bunny_Trailer_1080p.ogv

(that's an open source, royalty free movie using open codecs).

[CentOS] Firefox 60 crashes when trying to save an image

2018-07-15 Thread Robert Nichols

On any web page with an image, if i right-click on the image and select "Save Image
As...", firefox crashes.

Final messages from stderr:
(firefox:3401): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: No GSettings schemas are installed on the
system
[Child 3502, Chrome_ChildThread] WARNING: pipe error (3): Connection reset by

I've reported this on RHEL bugzilla (1601254), but on the off chance that this
is a problem with the CentOS build I'm posting here as well. This is
firefox-60.1.0-5.el6.centos.x86_64 on CentOS 6.10.

/home/greg will be protected from other users by default.  You would

On a side note, I've been using Firefox since version 0.99 around 2003,
when it wasn't even called Firefox but something like Firebird or Phoenix.

I've tested this new version, and I'm seriously considering moving to a
different browser. Over the years, I have developed a zero tolerance
policy for applications that have to be potty-trained again at every
major release.

Now I'm hesitating between Seamonkey browser + mail or the
Chromium/Thunderbird pair. My only issue is getting Seamonkey mail
synchronized with my OwnCloud contacts.

/home/greg will be protected from other users by default.  You would
need to change permissions on that directory from 0700 to 0701 to use
an
ISO there.  The "right" fix, though, would be to copy the ISO file to
/var/lib/libvirt/images/

Gordan,

I appreciate your admonition about selinux and the protectioin levels
of the directories. As soon as I discovered that these aspects were
not the issues, I changed them back to the original values.

The location of the iso image in /var/lib/libvirt/images/ directory
fixed the problem and allowed me to proceed with my laboratory
development. Thank you very much. After knowing the importance of the
location of the iso image files, I re-read the tutorials and I could
not identify this piece of information, hopefully this thread will help
others that are newbies with kvm.

Thanks again

Greg

I'm having the same problem as stated in the original thread -- re saving
images. BAH!

Also, I can't seem to "undo" the fonts FF 60.1 wants to use and I'll
invietigate that further at some point.

So far, I am not happy with this new version.

When you browse for an image using virt-manager, /var/lib/libvirt/images
is the only location in which you can select image files without adding
a new "volume."  The authors of the tutorials you read may have assumed
that users would copy images to that location rather than adding a new
volume.

You can help make those tutorials better by contacting their authors and
suggesting that they mention that users should copy image files there.
I'm sure you're not the only person whose time could be saved by a

[CentOS] FF 60.1 can't print pages to files...

Yet another issue with this new browser.

If I look at a web page and try to print it to a file, FF crashes.
CentOS 6.10

Going back to FF 52.8. This new version is just unworkable for me.

The warnings appear to come from fontconfig, not firefox. Do you see
something similar when you launch, say, gedit from the command line?

Any file operation, i.e. one that opens the file chooser, or tries to print
to a file, will fail because of the bug I mentioned in another thread,
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1596852

The fix is to replace the /opt/bin/firefox wrapper script with the patched
version in that bug listing. I believe this will be fixed in a 60.1.0-6
version when RH gets around to releasing it (and Johnny gets time to build
the CentOS version!).

This is peculiar. I just tried right-clicking on an image, then "Save Image
As" and it worked fine.

Is this because I'm using Mate and not Gnome?

And that would be because I'm using Centos 7 and not Centos 6 where this bug
applies.

*Cough*

I've reported this on RHEL bugzilla (1601254), but on the off chance that
this is a problem with the CentOS build I'm posting here as well. This is

The patch for bug 1596852 fixes the problem for me. Thanks much. My bugzilla
