They're now generated from new flat files, and you have to dig around to figure out where the new configuration is hidden. It's a learning curve we all hate to climb, of course. Fortunately we have the source code for when the documentation is inadequate! We see the same thing with the new firewalld. iptables didn't go away. It's just hidden behind firewalld configuration, which automatically writes iptables rules. I liken it to going from assembly language to a higher level language to describe my programming problems. [CentOS] Centos 7 httpd Permission problems with Postfixadmin
More joy with Centos 7. I am having permission problems with Postfixadmin. I am installing as I have in my notes I did in Centos6 and it is not working. I untar Postfixadmin into /usr/share. The owner is root:root (I even tried root:apache). My postfixadmin.conf file has: alias /mailadmin /usr/share/postfixadmin AllowOverride AuthConfig And I get when I try fqdn/mailadmin You don't have permission to access /mailadmin on this server. When I google this message, I am getting that httpd is not allowing me access. I have even added: allow from all To the above .conf with no change. > > Thing is, I don't have an .htaccess file ANYWHERE on this system. I > checked. > If you don't have a .htaccess file, then why have the AllowOverride directive in the .conf file? Putting AllowOverride in means that every time apache retrieves a file from that directory, *and every directory below*, it will look for a .htaccess file in the current directory, and every directory above (until it reaches the original directory). It doesn't cache the information (because it can change), so it means a significant increase in the amount of disk activity for each page. It also provides another attack surface for naughty people. So in general if you don't use, or intend to use, .htaccess files, then don't put in the AllowOverride directive. But if you use a directory outside document root, then you need to put it into the definition. And again if you don't intend to use .htaccess files, then remove the AllowOverride line. Re: [CentOS] Oracle support 12c
In business world this kind of thing is always negotiable. Every situation is different, and it ultimately depends on how much leverage you have, like how many instances and what level of support you have and are buying, and your relationship with Oracle sales rep. I don't know your situation, but I'll likely stay with RHEL (or Unbreakable) if I need Oracle support. The cost of RHEL won't add too much to the opex, but having someone to call in case of a meltdown is critical for your CIO's career. Yes, it would take a long time, but the man page for mdadm implies that it's reasonably safe (sorry for long lines): Changing the number of active devices in a RAID5 or RAID6 is much more effort. Every block in the array will need to be read and written back to a new location. From 2.6.17, the Linux Ker- nel is able to increase the number of devices in a RAID5 safely, including restarting an inter- rupted "reshape". From 2.6.31, the Linux Kernel is able to increase or decrease the number of devices in a RAID5 or RAID6. [...] When relocating the first few stripes on a RAID5 or RAID6, it is not possible to keep the data on disk completely consistent and crash-proof. To provide the required safety, mdadm disables writes to the array while this "critical section" is reshaped, and takes a backup of the data that is in that section. For grows, this backup may be stored in any spare devices that the array has, however it can also be stored in a separate file specified with the --backup-file option, and is required to be specified for shrinks, RAID level changes and layout changes. If this option is used, and the system does crash during the critical period, the same file must be passed to --assemble to restore the backup and reassemble the array. When shrinking rather than growing the array, the reshape is done from the end towards the beginning, so the "critical sec- tion" is at the end of the reshape. (Thanks to Gordon for the pointer to the GROW section of the mdam man page.) It's been a long time since I did this, but I seem to remember resizing an md array of ~10 2TB drives in a RAID5 by adding one drive and reshaping to RAID6, and it took 2-3 days. The old 3ware controllers claimed to be able to support this sort of reshaping, but I only tried once and it failed. I don't know if LSI or Areca supports it. --keith -- kkel...@wombat.san-francisco.ca.us ___ CentOS mailing list CentOS@centos.org https://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos
