Googling for `"pam_cracklib" cli tool` got me a recommendation of
`cracklib-check` via superuser [1]. Not sure if that does what you want,
but it might be a start?

Due to a hardware maintenance (moving some gluster volumes to
Infiniband, so adding/configuring the IB HBAs), we'll have to shutdown
some nodes in the CentOS Infra.

Migration is scheduled for Friday November 19th, 9:30 am UTC time.
You can convert to local time with $(date -d '2014-11-19 09:30 UTC')

The expected "downtime" is estimated to ~180 minutes (multiple things
happening at the same time), but we hope to be able to restart the
whole stack sooner.

Impacted services :
- - IPv6 traffic to www.centos.org (the server will remain online and
accessible through IPv4, only the IPv6-to-v4 reverse proxy we use the
moment will be offline, so record will even be removed during
that maintenance)
- - http://seven.centos.org

Thanks for your comprehending and patience.

on behalf of the Infra

[CentOS] amavis-new and mysql

2014-11-20 Thread Robert Moskowitz
Trying to figure this out, as it worked on my old server, but lots is
different on my new server

I forgot the mysql connection for amavis-new in my new mailserver, as
none of the tutorials I was pouring through mentioned this, even though
they claim they supported virtual domains...

Maybe amavis-new has gotten smart enough to recognize a domain as not
the one describe and suspect relaying. Anyway...

in /etc/amavis/amavis.conf I added:

@lookup_sql_dsn =
   ( ['DBI:mysql:database=postfix;host=127.0.0.1;port=3306', 'postfix',
'password'] );

but am getting in maillog:

Nov 20 09:15:10 z9m9z postfix/error[3237]: AC81A62159:
to=, relay=none, delay=1, delays=0.99/0/0/0.05,
dsn=4.4.2, status=deferred (delivery temporarily suspended: lost
connection with 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1] while sending DATA command)

Is there something off with that connection? Something is listening on
port 3306:

# netstat -an|grep 3306
tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:3306 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN

Perhaps because I forgot:

$sql_select_policy = 'SELECT domain from domain WHERE CONCAT("@",domain)
IN (%k)';

Which I picked up from an ubuntu help site google 'found' for me. The
Centos amavis-new howto does not cover supporting a mysql table of
virtual domains.

Ownership or selinux problem?

Unfortunately no selinux on RSEL. has to do, in part, with it being a port
to armv5, eventhough I run it on armv7.

I looked at the permissions and from /var/spool/amavisd it is owned by
amavis:amavis

Without selinux, permission errors are usually pretty straightforward
- that is, if something logs a 'permission denied', it means exactly
that. I could be anywhere up the path, or the program accessing it
might not have the uid you expect, though.

It was permissions. I had added clam to the amavis group:

gpasswd -a clam amavis

But not given the group permissions to the directory. First did:

chmod g+rx /var/spool/amavisd/tmp

But was still getting the error so I went up a level:

chmod g+rx /var/spool/amavisd

and no longer getting the error.

I **AM** making good notes on all of this. Perhaps I will someday put
them up in Centos docs...

It would be even nicer if the packages that are likely to need to
access each other's files/sockets in the course of mail delivery had
a common group and appropriate permissions. I haven't set up a mail
server for a while, but used to have the same issues with
sendmail/mimedefang/clamav.

[CentOS] older distro have newer package in base repo

2014-11-20 Thread Leon Fauster

Just wondering why in EL5's base repo the latest supported mysql
package is 5.5 and in EL6's base repo it is 5.1? Seems strange to me.

(it is clear that the SCL of EL6 has version 5.5 but that implies a
different update policy).

Is the clamav user a member of the amavis group and does the group permit read
access to /var/spool/amavisd/tmp?

Because that is how Red Hat decided to handle MySQL in EL5. I agree
with you that it seems strange ... CentOS just rebuilds the upstream
source code. They did it, we duplicated it.

In fact, the MySQL in EL5 is an SCL. It is the only SCL released for EL5
and it is different than the EL6 ones (path wise, etc).

BTW, I am sure they had their reasons, they would not have done it that
way without good reasons as it is a fairly substantial change. I don't
know what those reasons are however.

Unfortunately no selinux on RSEL. has to do, in part, with it being a
port to armv5, eventhough I run it on armv7.

I looked at the permissions and from /var/spool/amavisd it is owned by
amavis:amavis

Is the clamav user a member of the amavis group and does the group permit read
access to /var/spool/amavisd/tmp?

That was the problem as I said in my 'solved' message. I DID add clam
to the amavis group, but left out giving permissions to the group. I
found a ubuntu setup discussion that said to give r & x permissions.
Thinking about it, don't see way x permissions are needed.

I came up with cracklib-check too. It too uses FascistCheck like pam_cracklib
but none of the elements that are configurable for pam_cracklib are setable
for cracklib-check. I have obtained the source for pam_cracklib so I will see
if I can create something on my own to yield what I wish. Sometime. Maybe. If
I live long enough.

[CentOS] dovecot question

2014-11-20 Thread Robert Moskowitz
I am having problems with the dovecot list. Haven't seen any messages
from them for a few days, and a message I sent them today is not showing
in their archives, so I come here to see if anyone here might know

New mailserver and the first time I am using dovecot. Previously I used
courier-mail. My config is moving all tagged spam into the IMAP spam
folder. Very nice for the IMAP users, but not for the POP users. Of
course the server don't know, and the mysql database for users does not
have any flags for this. Don't want my server to fill up with spam from
POP users that don't know to check via IMAP. Thunderbird makes it hard
to switch from POP to IMAP.

So is anyone here using dovecot? Have they noticed this? How do you
handle it?

[CentOS] [OT] Lexmark T632 info sought

2014-11-20 Thread James B. Byrne
We have a bunch of old Lexmark T63x printers connected to our LAN. These are
accessed via IPP from our CentOS hosts and via TCP for our MicroSoft work
stations. Both connections have worked without problems for years.

This past week one of the T632s was replaced and since that time we cannot get
either IPP or TCP to work with it from our CentOS hosts. It continues to work
for the Windows domain workstations.

I have verified the settings, both printer and network, and everything seems
to match the settings of the original printer. Nonetheless when the printer
is enabled we get an IPP failure as soon as we send any job to it.

The only thing that I can detect that is different is the printer firmware.
All of the machines that work have this:

Printer Revision Levels:
Loader 551.019-0
Base551.019-0
Network 551.087-0
Engine E551.413 -0
Panel 7.02
Font8.10H02-U4.0
Tray 2 10.18-5
Duplex 23.11-7

The one that fails has this:

Printer Revision Levels:
Loader 551.019-0
Basic KernelE_YD.014-0
Kernel E_YD.014-0
Base551.019-0
Network 551.019-0
Engine E551.421-0
Panel 7.02
Font8.10H02-U4.0
Tray 2 10.18-5

I have no idea what a Basic Kernel on a Lexmark T632 is. Does anyone know and
if so can you say whether or not this is the source of our difficulty?

Without knowing exactly the reasons - EL5 vs. EL6 are structural
not so different (e.g. POSIX) that the reasons wouldn't apply also
to EL6. Anyway, it is like it is.

[CentOS] Solved - Re: dovecot question

By first contacting the dovecot list manager and asking him if there was
a list problem. There was.
