[OSL | CCIE_RS] Frame-relay Holdq or Fair-queue ?: Task 21.10 Volume 1

2010-12-16 Thread Morgan Charpentier
Hi,

On this task FRTS is configured. As there is fragmentation the shaping queue
is automaticaly turned into WFQ. To limit the size of the shaping queue, I
used fair-queue parameter like this

map-class frame-relay FRTS
 frame-relay fragment 150
 frame-relay fair-queue 100 16

show traffic-shaping queue
Traffic queued in shaping queue on Serial1/0.24 dlci 204
  Queueing strategy: weighted fair
  Queueing Stats: 0/600/*100/*0 (size/max total/threshold/drops)
 Conversations 0/0/16 (active/max active/max total)
 Reserved Conversations 0/0 (allocated/max allocated)
 Available Bandwidth 28 kilobits/sec

Strangely enough the DSG solution show

map-class frame-relay FRTS
 frame-relay fragment 150
 frame-relay fair-queue
 frame-relau holdq 100

show traffic-shaping queue
Traffic queued in shaping queue on Serial1/0.24 dlci 204
  Queueing strategy: weighted fair
  Queueing Stats: 0/600/*64*/0 (size/max total/threshold/drops)
 Conversations 0/0/16 (active/max active/max total)
 Reserved Conversations 0/0 (allocated/max allocated)
 Available Bandwidth 28 kilobits/sec

I thought frame-relay holdq was for default FCFS shaped-queue but has of no
effect when fair-queue is used.
Is that correct ?

Thanks

[OSL | CCIE_RS] Real exam clues

2010-12-16 Thread Osman balaban
Hello all,

I recently subscribed to the list and I am asking my first question :-)
Sorry if it is duplicated.

I had my first attempt a couple of months ago and I will try second time
next month. I have some questions regarding real exam practices. I would be
glad if someone provides any pointer.

There are some tricks that are not told in exam questions and I wonder how
to proceed with them. For example ; They tell us to configure trunks,
etherchannel etc. on interswitch links and don't tell us to shutdown unused
inter-switch links. But in a mock lab, I did not shut down them and I could
not get any point for L2 because of this. Can anyone point me which one is
correct ? To shut down or not ?

My second question is about redistribution. Please imagine there are both
RIP and OSPF and question tells us to redistribute them mutually on two (or
more) border routers. If you do so, there will be routing loop. There are
some ways to prevent loop. For example, to tag the routes when
redistribution is being done and prevent tagged routes to be redistributed.
But in this scenario, redistribution wouldn't be actually done. Please share
your comments on this as well. If redistribute keyword is written under RIP
and OSPF process, do they consider it that redistribution is done ?

Any pointer would be appreciated.

Thanks

2010-12-16 Thread marc abel
When you tag routes as your are redistributing them, they are redistributed
to the other process. You are just preventing them from being
re-re-distributed back in to the original routing process.

So I think in this case that is EXACTLY what they are looking for. Do you
know how to redistribute? Do you know the dangers of redistribution? Do you
know how to mitigate the risks of redistribution? This task proves you know
all 3.

[OSL | CCIE_RS] Redistribution in RIPng in IPv6

2010-12-16 Thread amermustafa
I have noticed when redistributing routing protocols in IPv6 we need include
"includ-connected" command which means we are adding the connected interfaces
which not part of the routing process.

Now isn't it like problem ? Why should we redistribute the connected routes and
in some cases it is very much possiable that we want thses interfaces not to be
part of the routing process and also never be restributed into a routing
protocol.

Any advice ?
Regards...
Amer
