2010-05-13 Thread Tyson Scott
It's not on the current tests. If you want to practice it you can buy
7600's or you can practice with another vendors platform. Juniper SRX100
supports VPLS, which is a little SOHO router that will cost you about
$500.00 dollars each.

Here's the main script:

*#!/bin/bash

--tab -t CAT3 -e "/home/user1/bin/ipexpert/CAT3 $POD $USER $PASSWORD" \
--tab -t CAT4 -e "/home/user1/bin/ipexpert/CAT4 $POD $USER $PASSWORD" &

*and here is an example expect script for router1:*

#!/usr/bin/expect -f

set POD [lindex $argv 0]
set USER [lindex $argv 1]
set PASSWORD [lindex $argv 2]

spawn telnet ${POD}ts1.proctorlabs.com 2001
expect "Username:"
send "$USER\n"
expect "Password:"
send "$PASSWORD\n"

(racklogin) to honor some instructor who's all about brevity. Create the
individual expect scripts. Then usage is simple. Say we have pod 109:

*./rl pod109 someuser somepassword*

I've taken your feedback into consideration, and I think you guys will
be happy with the blogs coming down the pipe for R&S. Now, realize
that we have many in queue and that I don't control what gets posted
when so it might be a little while before you see the results of this
thread.

I will also be thinking about some other things that were suggested
for future articles! Thanks, you guys rock!

CCDA and CCDP books from Cisco Press would show you the "ideal"

cisco.com known as the design guides for various technologies and

[OSL | CCIE_RS] eBGP Loopback Peering

2010-05-13 Thread Robert Simmons
Ipexperts,

In various labs, I've noticed that you guys present a scenario where you have
two eBGP nodes peering via a loopback that is being advertised via an IGP.
Obviously, this is going to cause the neighbor to "flap" since the eBGP AD 20
metric will supersede any of the default IGP metrics. The two techniques I've
seen you guys use throughout your workbooks are to either filter the loopback
via route-map on the neighbor or playing around with the distances to make the
IGP loopback preferable. The technique I always use and to me seems much
simpler is just using the network statement with the keyword "backdoor" for the
peer's loopback address. I haven't seen you use this technique and I'm
wondering if there is a reason why? Obviously, if you have certain restrictions
in a particular lab I wouldn't use it but, if there aren't any shouldn't this
be a valid method as well?

I'm just wondering if there is some downside that I'm not seeing.

Thanks

-Rob

Re: [OSL | CCIE_RS] eBGP Loopback Peering

2010-05-13 Thread Joe Astorino
Any alternative way that doesn't break the rules is a good one to
know! There is really no reason I can give you as to why we never
used that particular command other than that the lab author did not
find it all that interesting or overly important. The other thing you
could do is just not advertise the loopback into BGP at the same time
as your IGP...just don't use the network command at all!

I don't see why the BGP backdoor option could not be used to
accomplish what you are saying. nice!

What Robert just said (more ways the better) is absolutely true, and
something we preach 100% to our students...we just happened to not run
into that particular option in the workbook...hm I smell a good
task coming down the road whereby you must prefer the backdoor IGP
link but can NOT alter AD to do so : ) I love it!

Can anyone shoot me a quick scenario where I would need to use the capability

If your CE router is also running VRFs with OSPF.

By default the PE will set the down-bit when sending routes into OSPF to the CE
and the CE will ignore them without this feature
