Last time when I used CentOS (I guess 4.1 or something), it was very
good and stable. I guess you should have asked here or in the CentOS
mailing list before wasting your time downloading the ISOs. Anyway,
sticking with Ubuntu isn't a bad idea too. :)

2007-07-16 Thread Zakir Hossain
thank you.

But I did not like Ubuntu as I liked the CentOS on first sight. Moreover, I
used CentOS in Virtual Live CD with only 256 MB ram. Its was performing much
better than Ubuntu with 1024MB ram.

thanks for your suggestion again. I am downloading any older version.

Re: [bdlug] Filesystem problem

2007-07-16 Thread Abu Zaher
I ran into similar kinda problem a year ago as some suddren power surge
corrupted my hdd. Your drive probably has bad sectors, to solve this:

1. boot from live cd (ubuntu/kubuntu or something else)
2. in terminal
sudo e2fsck -ccvyfk /dev/hda3

This marks the bad sectors and tries to recover them.

Note: This will run for a long while so get some snacks :P

I hope this solves your problem.

we use centos as server and we tried centos as Desktop.
Finally we switch suse (10 -10.2) and Ubuntu for Desktop environment.

Both Centos are bad Desktop environment coz
1. Dependency Hell. ( Biggest threat for Linux for Human Being)
2. Dependency Hell. ( Biggest threat even for professionals).
3. Dependency Hell. ( most Time consuming)
4. Dependency Hell. ( most frustrating )
5. Slow Desktop need lot of memory.

Suse & debian both good for Server and Desktop. So it's better to use who
need both desktop and server in single PC.
Ubuntu Desktop is best Desktop it's beyond doubt.
