[Bacula-users] Installing/compiling Bacula 2.0.x on Debian Sarge

2007-03-05 Thread Jon Ingason
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I am building new backup server from scrarch. I have installed Debian
Sarge. Now I want to install bacula 2.0.x. On Baculas download site
there is only 2.0.0-1 Debian package. If I download and install them
will the bacula-dir be able to use TLS?

Another question is which package do I need to make the bacula server to
work using MySQL as database?

No, you are not rude. My question is little bit short.

I have read the documentation and can not find there anything about
restoring whole directory without knowing exactly what is in it. If I
want for instance restore one users Maildir without restoring everything
else, how do I do it? I can of cause scan for every file, but that is
cumbersome and time consuming.

I think there is a bug in wx-console restore. When wx-console has build
up the file tree it does:

cwd is: /
$ unmark *
420687 files unmarked.
$ cd "/"
cwd is: /
$ .dir
Illegal command. Enter "done" to exit.
...

I think there should be dir in stead of .dir.

[Bacula-users] Nothing to restore

2006-10-30 Thread Jon Ingason
I am trying to restore files I have saved with Bacula from my laptop. I
have upgraded Bacula on the backup server from 1.36-2 to 1.35-11. Bacula
 server is Debian 3.1 on AMD64 platform. When I try to restore my
Laptop with WX-console I get following:

Automatically selected FileSet: Laptop File Set
++---+--+---+-++---+
| JobId  | Level | JobFiles | JobBytes  | StartTime   |
VolumeName | StartFile |
++---+--+---+-++---+
| 18,551 | F |5,834 | 6,682,336,279 | 2006-10-27 15:47:07 |
Laptop | 4 |
++---+--+---+-++---+
You have selected the following JobId: 18551

Building directory tree for JobId 18551 ...
+++
1 Job, 5,555 files inserted into the tree.

You are now entering file selection mode where you add (mark) and
remove (unmark) files to be restored. No files are initially added, unless
you used the "all" keyword on the command line.
Enter "done" to leave this mode.

cwd is: /
$ ls
C:/
$ dir
--   0 root root 0  1970-01-01 01:00:00  C:/

As you see there is nothing in C:/, but in the table abow is a full
backup of more than 6.6 Gbytes.

What is the problem?

Here are little more information. If I do a "list files jobid=18551" I
get list of all files in this backup. So they should be in the database.
 The volumns is files on the harddisk.

I have have other clients which are working well. It has probable
nothing to do with the client, but with the storage daemon. I have gone
through the configurations files and so on, but can't find anything wrong.

Are there someone who know more and can explain what can be wrong?

[Bacula-users] Backup rotated logs

2006-12-20 Thread Jon Ingason
Hi, I need to backup rotated log files and wonder how I can do it with
Bacula without backup same file when it change name.

What I mean is if I have log file that rotated every day I have
following scenario:

Mon Thu Wed Tue Fri Sat Sun
log  log0 log1 log2 log3 log4 log5 <-- same file, different names
 log  log0 log1 log2 log3 log4 <-- same file, different names
  log  log0 log1 log2 log3 <-- same file, different names
   log  log0 log1 log2 <-- same file, different names
log log0 log1 <-- same file, different names
 log log0 <-- same file, different names
  log <-- same file, different names

I don't want to backup same file every day. I do Incremental Mon - Sat,
Diffrential Sun and Full first Sun of the month. How should I config
Bacula to do that?

Thanks Dan.

OK, but if I just have the backup data and the keys and that backup data
is so old that I need to use common line tools to extact the data from
the backup?

I am getting this message from most of the clients. The backup server is

working for many months when the sudenly stopped working.

Is there a problem running different version on client than on server?

I have a client in the field that hat crashed. I need to replace it with
new one. In my lab I install a new client and need most of the
configuration files from the old one. I have no problem if the backup is
not encrypted, but how do I do if the backup is encrypted?

Must I install bacula-fd on the client and the keys to get the backup
encrypted or can I do it in other way?

[Bacula-users] Problem with the Include Option "File ="

I have two of FreeBDS 6.3 machines running a few jails each and want to
backup some directory in the different jails. What I did was to put
following lines in the bacula-dir.conf file:

 File = "\\|/usr/local/bin/bash -c \"find /usr/jails/*/etc\""
 File = "\\|/usr/local/bin/bash -c \"find /usr/jails/*/usr/home\""
 File = "\\|/usr/local/bin/bash -c \"find /usr/jails/*/usr/local/bin\""
 File = "\\|/usr/local/bin/bash -c \"find /usr/jails/*/usr/local/etc\""

This worked without problem on my first machine. But when I tried to run
it on the other machine I got following message:

03-Oct 15:42 bacula-dir: No prior Full backup Job record found.
03-Oct 15:42 bacula-dir: No prior or suitable Full backup found in
catalog. Doing FULL backup.
03-Oct 15:42 bacula-dir: Start Backup JobId 63498,

03-Oct 15:42 client-fd JobId 63498: Fatal error: Error running program:
/usr/local/bin/bash -c "find /usr/jails/*/usr/home". stat=1: ERR=Child
exited with code 1
03-Oct 15:42 client-fd JobId 63498: Fatal error: Failed to authenticate
Storage daemon.
03-Oct 15:42 bacula-dir: client.2008-10-03_15.42.22 Fatal error: Socket
error on Storage command: ERR=No data available
03-Oct 15:42 bacula-dir: client.2008-10-03_15.42.22 Error: Bacula 2.0.3

If I comment out the "File = ..." here above, the backup succeeds.

What is the problem?

I see that that pepole on the list has problem with this, but I can't
see no solution.

Is there a solution to this?

I am backing up some Windows 2008 64bit and using Bacula win32 2.4.3.

Both bacula-dir and bacula-sd run as user bacula. If you do following
you get the home directory of user bacula:

grep bacula /etc/passwd|perl -e 'while(<>){split(/:/);print $_[5],"\n";}'
