Re: [Ayatana] Windicators mockups (daniel planas)

2010-05-19 Thread Oscar RdG
Hello,

Nice mockups Dani!!!

Just one comment: on the maximized window mockup [1] you have put on the
panel both the [window controls + window title] and the [window menu].
I think the idea is to show just the [window controls + window title], and
then on a mouse hover morph them to show [window controls + window menu].
That way, it will look cleaner.

Cheers

Re: [Ayatana] Windicators mockups (daniel planas)

2010-05-27 Thread Oscar RdG
Hi!

That is Dani's mockup.
He put together on the panel the window controls, window title and window
menu at the same time.

I just wanted to point out that the original idea that Mark wrote about [1]
was to combine title and menu on the panel, but not at the same time:
"By default, we’d display the contents of the title bar. When you mouse up
to the panel, or when you press the Alt key, the contents would switch to
the menu. That way, you’re looking at the document title most of the time,
unless you move towards it to click on the menu."

Maybe i did not explain myselft clearly enough! :)

Cheers,

Some screenshots of unity dash (files and applications):

I think the dash has some very nice features to allow easy filtering of
files and applications than can be used also with contacts:
* groups of contacts next to the search box (family, work, friends...)
* most recent contacts and/or most accessed contacts... on the "main" part
of the dash (below the search box)

Hopefully in the coming months we can reach something like that, thanks to
the work being done on libfolks (allowing fo have metacontacts on empathy
and the desktop) and zeitgeist.

Hi there,

Not being able to choose the computer name in an easy way, and assigning an
automatic name (ie. user-desktop) could lead to confusion in ubuntu one.

User case:
John has two laptops and is using ubuntu one to sync some files between
them. He wants to disconnect one of them from his ubuntu one account because
he is giving it to his younger sister.
But the two laptops have the same computer name (john-laptop), and they were
added at the same day to his ubuntu one account, so there is no way to know
which one must be disconnected.

Cheers...

Maybe it is better to use libfolks to manage "people" (with email addresses,
IM addresses, etc.) instead of just chat buddies.

As I can read on [1]:
"Work items:
Store friend properties to be used in untiy-places-people: TODO
Add libdee filter for people to be used in unity-places-people: TODO"

Is that meaning that a new "People Dash" is going to be developed for Natty?
That could be wonderful news!

Thanks!

Then the spanish translations of many gnome applications have a bug...
because they are translated as "Archivo" (noun), instead of "Archivar"
(verb).

Tabs inside a menu don't look nice, imo.
Tabs on the panel: then, which are the difference between having different
indicators/menus in the panel?

I don't think it would be a good idea to unit Me and Messaging Menu on a
single Menu, it looks too cluttered.
I prefer to properly separate the functions (not services) on each of the
Menus:
* Messaging Menu: inbox (get new mail, get new IM, get social messages,
etc..)
* Me Menu: outbox (set presence status, write new mail, write new IM
messages, broadcast new "social message", etc...)

And maybe it could be a good idea to put them two together on the
panel, without the Time/Date Menu between them as it is now.

Cheers!

So, aren't you then assuming "inbox functionality" in the Messaging Menu,
and moving "outbox functionality" (the ability to compose new messages) into
the Me Menu?
:)

Re: [Ayatana] No one will ever use the upper-left Ubuntu button

Hi there,

I like it!!

But maybe the workspace switcher would fit better on the "applications view"
of the launcher, instead of in the "dash view"?
It is used to switch between workspaces and opened applications, so it does
not belong to the dash view... at least imo.

Thanks for your mockup and cheers!
