[Ayatana] Super-W for programs in current workspace

2011-04-25 Thread Leo Barnes
(My first attempt to send this mail seems to have failed... Hope I
don't multi-post.)

Hi!

I am trying out the Ubuntu 11.04 beta and trying to get the hang of
Unity. I like it so far, especially the Super-W and Super-S
functionality. What I miss though are two things:

1. I keep LOTS of windows open at the same time and use workspaces to
organize them into categories for quick shifting. I love the Super-W
functionality, but would really like it to only select between the
programs in the current workspace (like alt-tab but looking like
Super-W) since this seems most logical to me. Is this possible to
achieve at present? (If not, I would like to submit it as a feature
request.)

2. This may be due to the default 11.04 theme or something, but the
difference between the selected and non-selected windows in Super-W/S
mode is minimal. Is it possible to change this?

(I hope this has not already been answered somewhere, tried searching
without success.)

Best regards and thanks for a nice UI,
//Leo

Both of these settings are configurable to taste in CompizConfig
Settings Manager. Look for "Scale" under "Window Management". You may
need to install CCSM first from the software centre.

Regardless, altering the defaults may be worth doing. I upgraded from
an already-customized Maverick, so I never got a chance to use the new
default settings.

Cheers,
Evan

Thanks for the suggestion, managed to find out how to change the
Super-W behaviour in the Scale plugin. I found no setting for changing
how the selected window is marked when in the window picker mode
though. Any suggestions on where I might find this?

Hmm. I thought that that was under Scale as well, but it looks like
it's actually under "Scale Addons". I really don't know why they split
it in two. Just enable "Scale Addons", and it's at the bottom of the
second tab of options.

Cheers,
Evan

[Ayatana] Improving the display of icons in the Applications window

2011-04-25 Thread Caio Alonso
First of all, sorry for not knowing the right name of this window, I just
know it as "the one that shows up when the Ubuntu button is clicked".

I've thought of three points in which this window can be improved:

1) When using the Applications lens looking for an internet application for
example: if the application I'm looking for is not included in the first 6
shown, I must click again to get to it. But seeing that there is unused
space, why can't the Installed section be already expanded to 12
applications when I open it? Take a look: http://i.imgur.com/4IgH8.png

And this is the way I think it should be right when I open it:
http://i.imgur.com/2kN3d.png

2) The second point is in the way the applications are ordered. As can be
seen on the previous screenshots cited, they are currently ordered
alphabetically. Has ordering them by frequency of use been considered as an
alternative or would changing the icon's positions over time break the
muscle memory of going to the old icon position?

3) If the user chooses to maximize this window, why isn't this choice kept
for all the next times he opens it?
