[AFMUG] My Internet is down and I can't sleep

2022-09-21 Thread Nate Burke
One of our grain legs is getting demolished and rebuilt, so the site is
down for a week. Planned outage, all the customers knew. Customer
emailed yesterday and wanted to know how much longer it will be down
because they can't control their mattress without the internet. I'm
having visions of something from 'Naked Gun' or 'Airplane' of the
mattress just going crazy and they have it barricaded in a room.

[AFMUG] amber alert

I wonder what kind of special signal they send to your phone to trigger an
amber alert? I would love to be able to trigger my phone on certain alarms
like that.

A week? Mine's been down for 4 months. Not sure when they'll be back either.

Thankfully, all but one customer was able to see another grain leg I could use.

Everything sent to cell phone with a pair of keys. One key is in your SIM
card, and the other is in the EPC at the cell company’s head end. I assume the
amber alert is still encrypted like everything else. Could be wrong, but you
might have to crack that to send anything to your phone that it would listen to.

Maybe a clever guy like you could capture and record an actual amber alert over
the air and then repeat it on demand. When you get the alert to watch for the
missing person in the blue Hyundai you know it’s really your front door alarm.

Everything sent to cell phone with a pair of keys. One key is in your SIM
card, and the other is in the EPC at the cell company’s head end. I
assume the amber alert is still encrypted like everything else. Could be wrong,
but you might have to crack that to send anything to your phone that it would

I wonder what kind of special signal they send to your phone to trigger an
amber alert? I would love to be able to trigger my phone on certain alarms
like that.

I wish the author would have listed some of the names/email addresses to
see if there were any I knew. There were tons of proof of concept
"products" built in the research labs whose existence never escaped the
walls of Motorola. Often they were built to identify new technologies
that warranted future development work.

Working in the labs was fun, but you could never talk about what you were
working on. Canopy was one of the few that escaped when no one was looking
(this is more true than you might believe).
