If you're seeing Dolby Digital Plus (DD+) then yes it is multichannel,
but the dynamic range is absolute trash.

Re: [AFMUG] Movie Review

2022-06-28 Thread Darin Steffl
Chuck,

For big movies like top gun, batman, Disney movies, minions, the studio
takes at least 62.5% from us on ticket sales. So examples below of our net
profit on ticket sales is listed and it isn't nearly enough to pay the
bills. This is why concessions cost so much at theaters because we couldn't
stay open on ticket sales alone.

Regular $9 ticket with tax included
Sales tax = $0.62 to the state
$8.38 pre-tax
Studio takes 62.5% = $5.24
Theater keeps = $3.14 net profit

Child/senior $6 ticket
Sales tax = $0.41 to the state
$5.59 pre-tax
Studio takes 62.5% = $3.49
Theater keeps = $2.10 net profit

As a single screen theater, these small net profits per ticket barely cover
property taxes, utilities, and payroll. Let alone the equipment and
maintenance costs of needing to spend about $70,000 per auditorium every
8-10 years to replace the projector and server. Add that we're replacing
our roof this week at $65k, new siding to cover the cracking stucco at
$70k, New marquee and EFIS on the front which will be around $100k, heated
recliners at $100k for the building, new concession stand and flooring $30k.

It's easy to see how I may never pay off the investments I'm putting into
this theater unless we increase attendance. My hope is this hobby will
eventually pay back my investments in 10 years so I don't have buyers
remorse. I bought this as it was going to close during covid lost likely
and the previous owners did not have the money or energy to keep it going
much longer. It's my childhood theater where I grew up and I love it so I'm
trying to save it, restore it, and make it the best place to see a movie
compared to the multiplex theaters that are dirty and have riff raff people
causing trouble.

Theater keeps = $2.10 net profit

As a single screen theater, these small net profits per ticket barely
cover property taxes, utilities, and payroll. Let alone the equipment
and maintenance costs of needing to spend about $70,000 per auditorium
every 8-10 years to replace the projector and server. Add that we're
replacing our roof this week at $65k, new siding to cover the cracking
stucco at $70k, New marquee and EFIS on the front which will be around
$100k, heated recliners at $100k for the building, new concession stand
and flooring $30k.

It's easy to see how I may never pay off the investments I'm putting
into this theater unless we increase attendance. My hope is this hobby
will eventually pay back my investments in 10 years so I don't have
buyers remorse. I bought this as it was going to close during covid lost
likely and the previous owners did not have the money or energy to keep
it going much longer. It's my childhood theater where I grew up and I
love it so I'm trying to save it, restore it, and make it the best place
to see a movie compared to the multiplex theaters that are dirty and
have riff raff people causing trouble.

  Chuck,

For big movies like top gun, batman, Disney movies, minions, the studio takes
at least 62.5% from us on ticket sales. So examples below of our net profit on
ticket sales is listed and it isn't nearly enough to pay the bills. This is why
concessions cost so much at theaters because we couldn't stay open on ticket
sales alone.

Regular $9 ticket with tax included
Sales tax = $0.62 to the state
  $8.38 pre-tax
  Studio takes 62.5% = $5.24
Theater keeps = $3.14 net profit

  Child/senior $6 ticket
Sales tax = $0.41 to the state
  $5.59 pre-tax
  Studio takes 62.5% = $3.49
Theater keeps = $2.10 net profit

Re: [AFMUG] Movie Review

2022-06-28 Thread Darin Steffl
The studios don't guarantee any minimums for us but WE guarantee minimums
for them!

So if we get a movie that does horrible and doesn't sell many tickets, we
still pay a guaranteed minimum to studios and it's typically about $300.
It's not too hard to meet that with any decent movie but some movies last
year did badly and we didn't meet the minimum so studios took 100% of the
ticket sales (under $300 total in ticket revenue) and we actually paid more
than we collected to fulfill the minimum. That means we only made profit on
concession sales.

Moral of the story, ticket sales don't make theaters money. Only concession
sales do. Now our prices are much more affordable than the big guys like
AMC, Regal, etc. but it's still a struggle to run a theater. I wouldn't
recommend anyone consider it as a way to make money. My WISP is at least
50x more profitable than this theater will ever be. But the theater is more
fun than the WISP for the most part. Everyone is happy to be here!

I am loving listening to the FB groups and the numerous times Starlink

I love closed captioning. I have a lunatic 2 year old and psycopath 3 year
old always buzzing around and shenaniganing. My 14 and 17 year old are
always watching stupid tiktok and the wife is always on speakerphone with
her sister who I like during summer when she wears short skirts. I dont
know that I've actually heard a movie or program in years. I dont know what
happenned on cable but it's all a delay now like 15 seconds behind and its
typed out by a monkey on meth apparently.
I wish theaters would do binge days like a season of peaky blinders if ty
let us smoke cigarettes and drink whiskey in the theater for it.

On the peaky note, they make a point of having the sound of the cigarettes
burning. I switched to these gay electric dicks on the first, that show
makes me miss cigarettes so bad

[AFMUG] When you don't want to delete an email mailbox

2022-06-28 Thread Nate Burke
I guess this is an option if you don't want to delete a mailbox not
sure why you'd do it though.

*Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups:*

xx...@ipsd.org
Your message is too large to send. To send it, make the message smaller,
for example, by removing attachments.

The maximum message size that's allowed is 0 KB. This message is 10 KB.

Hmmm... 0KB is a pretty severe standard.

Re: [AFMUG] Fw: Conduit

2022-06-28 Thread Steve Jones
you needed to set up two extruders, one for you and one to pay your
extruders off

There is another outfit doing this. They bought over 300 miles of duct last
year, and it was silly not to

Re: [AFMUG] Fixed Wireless near Clark MO?

2022-06-28 Thread Jan-GAMs
I sent mine back.  Couldn't use the VPN to login to the radios in my
wisp.  The tunnel would just drop.  speed test was descent, just can't
use it for work.  Couldn't change the IP on the router and the router
that came didn't even have an rj45, had to buy an adapter from them.
The wifi range wouldn't reach into the rooms where it was needed.  The
advertising said I'd have 30 days to decide.  They charged me the first
month rent 10 days after it arrived, $110 it looks like I'm not getting
back.  Support doesn't answer most questions.  All around, bad experience.

Thanks in advance.

Don't you just love products where they know more than you do?
