I typically try to move them up between major release firmware.
I would go from 15.0 to 15.2.1 then straight to 16.1

I found an issue with upgrading AP to 16.1 before the subs because 15.0

Interesting.  Is that related to the new scheduler?

Also was there some discussion that 16.1 might have some bug?  I think
we’re still using 16.0.1 here.

Same here. And I think you want your SMs on at least 15.2 before upgrading the
AP to 16.1.

I have not had problems taking the SMs to 16.x first, but I think you can have
problems connecting if the SMs are too far behind the AP.

2019-10-04 Thread Chuck McCown
Got a Hologram card coming. Looks like it is $0.60 for 1 MB per month. That
should do me I would think.
Got a netgear mobile hotspot for about $50. Going to hack it to make it 12
volt power and external antenna.

My technicians were impressed when we turned on the air to a duct from a mile
away yesterday. They fully expected someone would have to drive back and fire
up the compressor. Nope, my son Ben simply pulled out his phone and click,
water, rocks dirt and eventually a sponge came shooting out of the duct.

Get a SIM from Hologram.io for $5. It works with AT&T and Verizon for as little
as $1.5/month. Then
put it in the hotspot device of your choice.

So, need a mobile hotspot device. We use AT&T. They have some kind of
netgear device for $8 and change / month.

Should I just get some device and get a sim card? Very low data usage.

  Any suggestions?

[AFMUG] Mikrotik queues and packet loss

2019-10-04 Thread Adam Moffett
I have a device with a direct ethernet connection to a CCR 1016. There's
a simple queue limiting it to 100mbps.

If I ping that host aggressively (like 50pps) then I get small amounts
of packet loss.  If I disable the queue then I get no packet loss
whatsoever.  I fiddled with different queue sizes and queue types, but
there's no obvious difference until I turn the queue off.  The ROS
version is recent, but not the newest.  Is this a known thing? I don't
make extensive use of Mikrotik's queues so this is new to me.

Is your tracking set to yes in the connection tracking for the firewall?
