Required Minimum Functionality RMF now applies to Internal-Only users?

2014-02-03 Thread Matt Perry
Hello,

As an agency, we've been developing various tools that we use internally to
help us with account creation and management. We've been very careful to
not allow clients, partners, etc to use the API to maintain our status of
an "Internal-Only AdWords API Client". And our intention is to report any
use changes when they are developed, as required.

When we began developing these tools, the RMF document said that it didn't
apply to "Internal-Only" clients:

"This Section III(2)(f) does not apply to End-Advertiser-Only AdWords API
Clients and Internal-Only AdWords API Clients"
See:
http://googledata.org/google-adwords-api/changes-to-required-minimum-functionality-for-adwords-api-clients/

But now, the RMF document does not even mention "Internal-Only" clients:

"*End-Advertiser-Only AdWords API Clients (each as defined in the **Terms &
Conditions ) are not
required to fully implement the required AdWords API features shown in the
chart below; all other AdWords API Clients (as defined in the Terms &
Conditions **) must
fully implement the required AdWords API feature*s relevant to their tool
type as explained below."
See: https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/requirements

I understand that this forum cannot provide legal interpretation, but I'm
hoping I'm missing something.

Since we use the API to manage other business's accounts, we're not
End-Advertiser-Only. But it makes no sense to me that if we've written
code to internally use the API to create a campaign, we also need to have
code to use the API to create Ad Group Sitelinks.

Was there any discussion around this change? Do we know when this change
occurred? Are there any other documents that address this besides the RMF
and TOS? Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Update: I contacted the API token team directly about this.

They didn't provide too many details in their response, but it appears to
be a case-by-case thing now. Although the term "internal-only" has
disappeared from the RMF document, in our case, as long as our use remains
internal-only, we're "good to go".

Use Maps API to show all geotargeting within an MCC?

2013-03-13 Thread Matt Perry
Is it possible to use the Maps and AdWords APIs together to create an
accurate map of all geotargeting within an MCC? We typically geotarget for
local businesses using a combination of zip codes and radii around
addresses in U.S. and Canada. We'd like to see the geotargeting off all
accounts within the MCC on one map.

Not looking for how - just want to know if it's possible before outsourcing
the project.

Thanks!

Does AdWords Editor (AWE) use the API?

2013-10-30 Thread Matt Perry
Hello,

In determining if something is possible with the API, I've assumed that if
you can do it with AdWords Editor, you can find a way to do it with the
API? Is this correct?

One thing that makes me question this is that when we pulled targeted
locations via the API, it didn't include any of the zip codes. I know zip
code targeting is "in beta", but AdWords Editor pulls them fine. So I'm
guessing we just weren't doing it properly with the API - since we can do
it with AWE.

So does the AdWords Editor use the same API we use?

Way to check if client billing is setup or ads not showing because of billing issue?

2017-03-01 Thread Matt Perry
Hi,

I understand that the Adwords API doesn't support MCC client forms of
payment/billing. I accept that the client needs to provide their billing
info through the UI (except w/ whitelisted BillingOrderService).

But is there any way to somehow use the API to confirm that billing has
been setup and/or ads aren't eligible to show b/c of a billing issue?

Maybe...
- an error that would be caused by a particular API request that would
indicate that the ads aren't eligible to show b/c of billing?
- a reporting behavior attribute?

Re: Way to check if client billing is setup or ads not showing because of billing issue?

2017-03-02 Thread Matt Perry
Well, that just might be workable.

We often setup campaigns before the client has entered their billing info. The
last thing they need to do before their ads start showing is provide Google a
form of payment. So, theoretically, assuming the campaigns are setup and not
paused, their ServingStatus would change after their billing info is setup.

We'll give it a shot. Thanks!
