What's on the tin: are there plans for TSM4VE support for vSphere 6?

Very slow DB RESTORE performance

2014-10-08 Thread Matthew McGeary
Folks,

I'm restoring my TSM DB to a new host and have run into some extremely
slow performance restoring the DB. It seems to process a few hundred MB
and then pause for 5-10 seconds before starting up again. The new host is
a Power8 S22 with 20 cores and 256GB of RAM, running AIX. The tape drives
have two 4Gb HBAs connected and the disk has four 8Gb. I'm looking at a
2.3 TB database that will take approx 13 hours to restore.

Any ideas on why it's slow and how it could be sped up would be
appreciated.

Thanks

Could it be disk drive contention? It sounds like you're filling up your
buffer cache, and then waiting for it to be flushed to disk.

Yes. There are plans for this. The target is early 2015.
As always, plans are subject to change.
